#1779545 Proper Chinese Character Support

Posted by OMGWTFBBQPONIES on 22 January 2017 - 04:03 PM

I see no problem on the linked page (alt name: 杀死海豹的100种方法; author/artist: 今日定食)?
Aaanyway,
1) if you mean certain characters turning into question marks and possibly causing weird unintended behaviour (like breaking the "show all comments" on status updates or users from before ~july 2014 that used them in their usernames not being able to log in), it's an old bug caused by some ipb update in 2014 that grumpy sadly never figured out how to fix :(
2) artists and authors should be written in latin alphabet to make them typeable and thus searchable for your average reader

starting from 160th and 173rd characters (no-break space and soft hyphen), every 64th character doesn't work (which includes, among other things, that "à" letter that Spanish uploaders tend to use and the ಠ symbol from the look of disapproval)

#1770308 So Batoto it an active Yaoi Website now?

I try to upload as much yaoi on this site as I can. You're welcome/.

#1770217 Around how long to approve?

Posted by OMGWTFBBQPONIES on 24 October 2016 - 04:40 PM

I think they're asking how long it takes for a mod to approve their chapters?

Which would be within 12-48 hours, with non-english uploads possibly taking a bit longer iirc. Since contrib mods are all volunteers, sometimes life might keep enough of them busy to cause unplanned delays to that. That is, it'll be approved as soon as someone checks it, but if there's a lot of traffic in mod queue already, it might not necessarily be approved on the same day.

#1766982 [done]Recent Boku Girl uploads

Posted by Aereus on 01 October 2016 - 10:37 AM

Someone named Izaya has been uploading chapters recently. They use my scripts that were provided to another individual (BokuBoy) on the understanding they were for practice only and not meant to see public dissemination. Somehow this person found a link to them and is uploading them now without permission from BokuBoy, and as you may imagine, myself. I would appreciate if you could expunge them. Enough damage has already been done, as they have no doubt been picked up by less discerning reader sites which only care about the first release and don't replace with a later quality release. I'd like to minimize the damage as much as possible, however.

#1759354 Topic: Pending Contributor Requests

Posted by seyrine on 31 July 2016 - 02:09 PM

Hello members and prospective contributors,

First of all we apologize for not being able to take care of the contributor requests in a timely fashion. We have changed our internal approval procedures and will hopefully now be able to respond in timely manner. All recent requests have been taken care of as well.

For those with older requests (older than 5 months) we ask that you to create a new thread and request contributor status again. Please follow the guide found here and have at least least 3 or more chapters uploaded. This will help your application be approved in the shortest time possible.

Thank you for your patience on this matter, and thank you for your continued support for Bato.to!

#1753410 [Suggestion] Status: Hiatus

Posted by Cake-kun on 19 June 2016 - 02:18 AM

This is for series' like Bastard, Black Yome ni Yoroshiku, Yotsubato!, and et cetera

Some series' that just stopped updating without any formal explanation on discontinuation should be marked as such (since it's neither "ongoing" nor "complete"), because there's no ongoing available chapters available to call this series "ongoing" nor "complete".

This should be only used for the series' that has been on hiatus for more than 4 monthes or 9 issue worth, whichever comes first.

Ideally, series' that later has source to prove that it has been cancelled should be updated as. I personally think this will help de-clutter some series' being marked as "ongoing".

#1752511 Chapter isn't viewable, upload problem?

Don't use non-English characters in filenames.

#1748405 So there's supposed to be a bookmark feature now?

Posted by OMGWTFBBQPONIES on 11 May 2016 - 04:33 AM

You mean this?
u8Xyzq8.png

http://vatoto.com/follows_comics ("follows by comic" option to the right on the default follows list, below the language filter)

If you're using subway/default theme, there's also graying out of visited hyperlinks (which includes stuff on chapter lists) if your browser keeps track of visited pages (which should happen unless you disabled it or delete browsing history regularly).

There's a slight anti-spam delay after posting before you can make a new post. Maybe you double-clicked the 'post' button?

#1685049 Scanlations... One by One, or In Bulk?

Posted by Okonoyamiyaki on 19 December 2015 - 05:12 AM

For me it would depend on the series. I'm a fan of marathoning (I'll often even go back and read a favorite series all at once,) but if it's a series that's currently being serialized in a magazine, I'd prefer not to wait if I don't have to. Like having to wait for monthly titles already can be painful.
Weeklies I wouldn't mind saving 1 to 3 of at once because like, honestly they're already really short releases and by the time I get into it, it's over.

For older things that are being scanslated with the tankouban though, bulk...ier releases (a couple chapters) is kind of nice. I agree that more than a few chapters  at once though can be kind of daunting and may mean that it gets moved to a backburner. Like more than 4 or 5 at once is like, "Oh I guess I'll do this after I read the shorter releases..."
I follow several...Uh... Hundred (?Too Many. Not Sure) current series so even if I read everyday, huge bulk releases might mean I get distracted or wander away in the middle.
I kind of like the idea of 2-3 chapters the most. Enough to get into it and excited but not so many I'm like "Gyaugh I have other things to read."

Either way as long as it doesn't just sit there for more than a few months without updates, I'm pretty happy. After 4 or 5 months, I end up not really being able to remember what was going on so even if there's a bulk release of like, a zillion chapters, it's a pain since I'll have to go back and remind myself. That's kind of demotivational at that point.

As far as text goes, I read both really long-winded wordy ones and really simple mostly fighting grunty ones. If it's interesting it doesn't really matter. For the ones without much text though, because they go so fast, I find one chapter releases kind of underwhelming and forgettable. I've found I'll often have to re-read a past chapter for context - especially the weekly JUMP type series. Contrarily, if it's a really wordy one and there's a huge bulk release, it might be harder to get through it in one sitting so it might sit on a side tab for a few weeks.
