Oh DR, analyze me like one of your french girls.
I'm flattered.
For Vaffy: Though I can say that I haven't read much of your work, but from what little I have read I arrived at this. Oak Brown or Timber Brown is a misleading color, one that doesn't seem to standout like the Reds and Blues but is always present in some token or form throughout a setting. Like an anchor for a ship, it provides that earthy assurance and balance to a wild scene. Similar to most of your characters.
It maybe easy to form an opinion about them based on how they look or talk but that is almost always missing the core of them and things they are capable of. It is like they have multiple layers and the more you dig deeper the more different it is from the first image you saw. They move through a subtle gradation of behavior, like someone who has practiced the social skills to a level that he is an urban chameleon. It is not easy to guess the motives.
They may appear harmless and yet be capable of violence that can't be expected or fathomed. Or they may appear rough and barbaric and yet have sagely side to them that will almost always floor you. Also, most of them are always ahead of the years or wise-beyond the years. But that seems natural and not forced.
Have a reserved and practiced ease about themselves and are comfortable in their skin. Thus, the color. It seems really commonplace but once we look outside we'll find more in every spec than most colors can hope to be.
