First of all we apologize for not being able to take care of the contributor requests in a timely fashion. We have changed our internal approval procedures and will hopefully now be able to respond in timely manner. All recent requests have been taken care of as well.
 
For those with older requests (older than 5 months) we ask that you to create a new thread and request contributor status again. Please follow the guide found here and have at least least 3 or more chapters uploaded. This will help your application be approved in the shortest time possible.

Keep up the good work.

1. Bandwidth, and the costs associated with it.

2. Would expose us to too much heat, right now I don't think we can handle that.

3. There are already too many streaming site available atm.

It could have been screened by one of our contribution mods. Uploads made by members go into a queue to be approved; if the chapter doesn't get their approval it will be removed from the queue.

Can you give more information about the manga/chapter you tried to upload?

Started going through requests. Please don't bump up any pending requests yet, I'm not done yet and bumping your thread will only delay your application further.

I appreciate that suggestions like API was brought up. The first time it was brought up, I thought it was interesting that such novel idea came out. This is a brainstorm, an attempt to explore ways to mitigate the issue. It's just that I've said no to it so many times that I'm getting more aggressive. It's ultimately I who has to program this and spend a great deal of time and effort. Even with the tiny change compared to an API--the current launch, I'm losing sleep and work load is piling. It's stressing. And I honestly, API just isn't going to happen at this time. It's not that I see zero value in it. But right now, I have no will, desire or time for it. I'm apparently having difficulty convincing users that they need to do a 1 minute of something they don't want. But I'm expected to be convinced of hundreds of hours on top of ongoing support of something I don't want.

When I say no, I'm then met with their reasoning as to why it will work because of x, y & z. But I've tried them already and/or actively doing so. I can't realistically explain each thing that I've tried that or this, nor is it that I don't want the input for the chance that something I didn't try will come out. There is a list of thousands of banned IPs. But they just get new ones. IPs are super cheap and easy to rotate. This isn't my first attempt to try different things to block bots. This is my 100th. It's only a big deal now because it affects users directly.

 

 

I've said it before and I'll say it again. My goal isn't to block out 100% of the bots. Yes. some will get through. Some in matter of hours. That's perfectly fine, if I'm still keeping 90% else at bay, or even just delaying them. Heck, or even just half of them.

 

I'm not their parents and i'm not their law. Yes. But rewarding bad behaviour is bad because it encourages more bad behaviour. Because more they be an ass, more stuff they get. What makes you think that they'll even use the API responsibly? What makes you say they'll change at all? As much as they are Batoto's competitor, Batoto is theirs. They want Batoto dead. I fail to see why they'll suddenly drop all their arsenal and be nice after getting rewarded for being an ass.

It has been stated before (read the quote) but the lack of API isn't "just because".

Please keep all discussions civil. It's ok to give a dissenting opinion as long as you're respectful about it. Likewise, all opinions are valid no matter how contrary they are to your own. Just keep arguments on level heads and everything is fine.

As for third-party extensions/apps/etc. Batoto's stance is neutral. We will neither encourage nor hinder their development UNLESS they pose a threat to the site and its members. We reserve the right to throttle or block apps/extensions that actively gives us headaches. That's partly the reason why the changes were made in the first place. Also, all responsibility of maintaining the extension/app remains solely on the author.
