Forget the title: Little orphan girl X deadbeat demon who takes her lifeforce in exchan...

14 May 2016 - 08:19 PM

Does anyone else remember this? I read it a long time ago and it was pretty popular at the time, but I never finished it and I can't remember what it's called. I'd really like to check up on it. To elaborate on the title, I remember it starting with this demon getting kicked out of hell/the demon realm/whatever because he was lazy and wasn't doing his job, so he was sent to earth to go victimize some humans. At which point he meets an unhappy orphan girl who (without knowing the consequences because he didn't tell her) makes a wish to marry him in order to leave the orphanage, which he grants. It was a series, I remember them living in a box in a park for awhile, and him trying to kill her off as fast as he could by getting her to waste her lifeforce on silly wishes, but like I said, I never finished it, so while I know he eventually grows attached to her, that's after she's used up most of her life on wishes she doesn't need, and I would really like to know how it ends. Can anyone help me remember the title? (I think I gave plenty of info hahaha)
Thanks! ^^

So who wants to play werewolf!? :D

23 August 2015 - 04:00 PM

Heyyy Batoto community! Who here has heard of the game The werewolves of Miller's hollow?

*Cricket noises*

Rightttt it's not that popular huh.

Okay so basically, it's a card game, but it's easily possible to play online provided everyone knows how to play, and I'm about to teach you all how to play. It's really fun, trust me. ^^ I'll be explaining how to play with cards, and the modifications that need to be made to play online will be explained after the rules, so just read on for now.

Note: You will need to have a Skype account and be willing to add me despite my stranger status in order to play.

How to play:

Setup:

At the start of the game, someone is chosen to be the Narrator. The Narrator, as their name suggests, narrates the game to the other players, who have their eyes closed at most times.

The Narrator shuffles the cards and deals one to each player. Each card has a different role on it: You are either a Villager or a Werewolf. Some Villagers have special powers. Players look at their cards (without letting other players see them), understand their role, and place their cards face down in front of them. They will stay in the role they have been dealt for the rest of the game.

The goal of the game:

The goal of the game is different for the different roles.

For the Werewolves: Murder one Villager every Night until only Werewolves remain, but pass as a Villager during the Day in order to avoid being lynched for your treachery.

For the Villagers: Vote every Day on one player who you suspect of being a Werewolf and hang them for their supposed crimes, but be careful not to kill off other Villagers or draw suspicion to yourselves.

The basics:

The game consists of multiple rounds, and each round is divided into phases: Day and Night. The round starts at Night, and Night is when most things happen. During the Night, all players close their eyes. The Narrator will call on certain roles to "wake up". When/if your role is called upon, you open your eyes, and depending on your role, take an action. When your turn is over, the Narrator will tell you to "go back to sleep" and you will close your eyes again. During the Night, no one but the Narrator is permitted to speak. Decisions are made silently, through gestures to the Narrator. Each Night, the Werewolves decide unanimously to kill one other player. Once all roles that get turns have taken them, the Night ends. The Narrator gives a prompt for all players to open their eyes (usually just "Village, wake up" but you are welcome to get creative with your lines), and the Day begins. The Narrator reveals who died during the Night, and players proceed to discuss and debate on who they think may be a werewolf. The Narrator moderates the debate. After some amount of deliberation, the Narrator announces that it is time to vote, and all players must decide on someone to hang. Whichever player gets the most votes is hung and dies. They flip their card for all to see and are out of the game. The round ends and the next Night begins.

The roles:

A combination of different roles are used with every different game, and a game where every single role is in play is somewhat unlikely to occur outside of a large group. Aside from Regular Villagers and Werewolves, only one of each role is dealt every game.

- Werewolves; who can kill one Villager every Night but must pass as Villagers themselves during the Day.

- Regular Villagers; who basically have no special powers and can only vote with everyone else on who to lynch in the Day.

- The Fortune Teller; who can secretly look at one player's card every Night.

- The Cupid; who selects two players on the first Night to be Lovers for the rest of the game. They may choose themselves as one of the Lovers.

- The Witch; who has a Potion of Life and a Potion of Death. Every night, they learn first who the werewolves have killed, and they may choose, if they wish, to save that person. They may also choose to kill one player, no questions asked, without taking a vote. Each potion is one-use-only and when the Witch has used both of their potions, they become a Regular Villager.

- The Hunter; who can bring one other player down with them upon being killed.

- The Thief; who is a bit complicated and who I cannot explain in this format, but who is not worth reformatting the entire paragraph over. When the Thief is in play, two extra Regular Villager cards are shuffled in with the rest of the cards. Once all the cards have been dealt, the two remaining cards are placed in the middle. On the first Night, the Thief looks at the two extra cards and chooses to either keep their current role, which is essentially a Regular Villager after this interaction, or take one of the roles from the middle. If both of the cards placed in the center are Werewolves, the Thief no longer has a choice, they must switch.

Extra roles:

These roles are not dealt out to players at the start of the game like the other roles, and each role has a unique way of being achieved. These roles count on top of the role you were dealt.

- The Sheriff: At the start of any Day of the Narrator's choosing, all players vote to elect a Sheriff. You may, if you wish, vote for yourself. Whoever receives the most votes becomes Sheriff, and you cannot choose not to be Sheriff if you are elected. The Sheriff's votes count as two votes against a person. If the Sheriff dies, they will select another player to be Sheriff on their dying breath.

- The Lovers: The Lovers are two players selected by the Cupid to fall in love. If one Lover happens to be a Werewolf while the other is a Villager, the goal of the game changes for these two players. They only want a world where they can exist together in peace, and so their goal becomes to be the only two players left at the end of the game. If one lover dies, the other is seized in a fit of grief and kills themselves as well.

- Ghosts: Ghosts are players that have died in some way and have been eliminated from the game. They are no longer permitted to interact with other players in any way, however they do not have to close their eyes at Night and get to watch over the proceedings of the living.

Turn order and instructions:

The Thief, Cupid, and Lovers only get their own turn on the first Night.

Starting Day:

The Starting Day does not actually exist unless the Narrator wishes to elect a Sheriff before any real play begins. If this is the case, the players elect a Sheriff. If not, the game skips right onto the first Night. Electing a Sheriff at this stage is not advisable if the players have just met and do not yet know who to trust.

First Night:

The Narrator instructs the Village to go to sleep by saying "Village, asleep" or really anything else they might like to say as long as they get their point across. All players close their eyes. No one is permitted to open their eyes unless their role is called upon.

The Narrator calls on the Thief, who looks at the cards in the middle and decides whether or not to change their role.

The Narrator calls on the Cupid, who selects two people to be the Lovers.

The Narrator calls on the Lovers, who recognize each other and go back to sleep.

The Narrator calls on the Fortune Teller, who selects one player whose card they want to see.

The Narrator calls on the Werewolves, who decide on one person to kill. The decision must be unanimous. If the Werewolves take too long to come to a unanimous decision, their turn will end without them having killed anybody. The Narrator must give them fair warning before this happens.

And finally, the Narrator calls on the Witch. The Narrator tells the Witch who the Werewolves have killed that Night, and asks if they want to save the victim. Next, the Narrator asks if the Witch has anyone they wish to kill. Once the Witch has used the potions they wish to use, if any, the Night ends.

Day:

The first Day is not particularly different from any other Day during the game and therefore I shall not mark it off.

The Narrator instructs the Villagers to wake up, and flips the card of whoever died during the Night.

If the Hunter has been killed, they select another player, and that person dies as well.

If the Sheriff has been killed, they select the next Sheriff.

If one of the Lovers has died, the other dies as well.

The players debate. You are allowed to tell other players what role you are, and you are allowed to bluff as well. However, going around shouting about how you know who one of the Werewolves is and how everyone should vote with you because you are the Fortune Teller may not be all that wise of a decision if you wish to survive the next Night.

The players vote. Voting does not have to be silent, and you can defend your innocence until the very end. Feel free to be resentful when your poor little Villager card is flipped into the open before your very eyes.

Once voting is complete, the Day ends. Gameplay continues in this way until either side has won.

How to play over Skype:

Just send me a PM with your Skype name and I'll handle the rest! ^^

Once we have enough players, I'll make two group chats: A players' chat and a Werewolves' chat. The Narrator will assign the roles however they wish. I'll be Narrator at first until everyone gets the hang of it. Any Nighttime interactions that would normally take place between the Narrator and an individual (get your mind out of the gutter) will be conducted over private chat, all voting will take place in the players' group and the Werewolves' turn will take place in the Werewolves' group.

So that's everything! I wanted to type some nice little closing paragraph here to tie this post up neatly, but honestly I can't think of what to write. xD

I guess just come on over and shoot me a PM if you wanna play! If we get enough players we can get this off the ground. ^^

Also don't worry if this post is old when you see it, if this actually works then Imma just bump this topic whenever I wanna play.
