Girl characters who never bother to spend a minute to try to listen to the guy character, so they always misunderstand something. -.-

Damn I start college this fall......I'm probably going to start Kikou Shoujo (I prefer the manga art than the LN art but it's worth checking out) and maybe Magi (manga is better because it has a darker tone but 2nd season starts off where the manga starts to get better)

Interesting. Didn't like the Aincrad arc, but Alfheim was a good watch.

I should get around to reading the latest volume...

For most people its the other way around...

#447305 Weekly Shonen Jump Placements

You know the author of Silver Spoon (also author of Full Metal Alchemist for those who don't know) still worked on her serialization the whole time she was pregnant? She only took a few weeks off when she was in time for labor. That's what it means to be dedicated as a mangaka. For those who's series aren't all time best sellers, they can't afford to miss one deadline whether you're sick or not. It doesn't matter if you're exhausted or even sick cause your series is done for once it loses popularity. Akira Toriyama worked his ass off for 11 years cause his fans kept wanting him to continue the series until he couldn't take it anymore. I'm not trying to raise expectations of those who are already hard workers but that's what the world of manga, anime, and light novels are like. I'm not against popular authors who want to take a break for some reason or another like the authors of the Big 4 of Jump (for people who don't now, Toriko is a huge hit in Japan) often do every now and then but the breaks that Togashi-sensei take are ridiculous.

Someone mentioned Berserk before but apparently the person writing that series has some personal issues to take care and the author of Liar Game, well, it's one of those series that you kind of have to prepare for so it's a bit understandable.

Is HxH on Haitus because of the Kurapika Side Story or is the mangaka still sick?

There's another topic on this on the Hunter X Hunter section of the forum but it's likely that he's not really sick. That's what the magazine claims to be but there are a lot of rumors that have been saying he just has a lack of work ethic. Apparently whenever a Dragon quest or Final Fantasy game comes out, he goes on hiatus the week they're released...

An article posted on the website: http://www.nikkei.com/article/DGXNASFK31007_R31C12A0000000/?dg=1

And this was a blog post about it: http://www.mangatherapy.com/post/35650564147/shonen-jump-brings-all-the-girls-to-the-yard

Shonen Jump Brings All the Girls to the Yard

If 50% of Weekly Shonen Jump readers are female, one can consider the magazine to be the most gender-neutral manga magazine out there today.
The Nikkei Shimbun recently took a look at Japanese women that read Jump. The results were what fans might usually expect. As you can see, female readers love series like Haikyuu!!, Gintama, Katekyo Hitman Reborn, Kuroko no Basket, One Piece, and BLEACH. The boys loved titles like Nisekoi, Kochikame, Medaka Box, Toriko, Beelzebub, and Naruto.
Nikkei also took a look at the history of Shonen Jump titles that appealed to women (which includes Captain Tsubasa, Hoshin Engi, Yu Yu Hakusho, Rurouni Kenshin, and The Prince of Tennis).

Nikkei also goes into depth on why girls happen to love Shonen Jump and even talks about how boys might not be drawn into it because of the amount of material that’s catered to women (i.e. Kuroko no Basket, which Nikkei discussed in great detail in the 3rd page of the article). The article says that titles like Nisekoi are there to get back or get continued support by male readers.
Another interesting thing to point out is the title of the article. Here’s what it says:
“発行部数300万部の「週刊少年ジャンプ」を支える熱い女子 日経エンタテインメント”
You can translate it as “Crazy/enthusiastic fangirls help support Weekly Shonen Jump’s 3 million circulation!”
A friend of mine felt that the title is insulting towards fujoshi. Then again, the tone of the article suggests that the large amount of females reading Jump is ruining boys’ images of Jump. Is that really the case though? If you look at the 1st chart, everything seems to even out in the end.
Is this an obstacle to fujoshi power or something that just more people will accept over time? All we know is that relationships are essential to everyone’s (men, women, children, adults, etc.) lives and Shonen Jump titles highlight them in great detail.
Guess this is another huge reason why Shonen Jump is considered to be “The World’s Most Popular Manga” magazine, huh?

#321750 Isn't it better to be smaller sometimes?

Posted by ValorantX on 27 August 2012 - 03:48 AM

It really depends. If the story has to end after only a few volumes then I'll be happy to read it as a "short masterpiece." But many manga are not like that, different series improve along the way as the author stretches the plot and you start to enjoy reading it a lot more at chapter 300 than at chapter 100. Also, a lot of good series that ended early just need to be longer! There's a difference between a perfect conclusion and a rushed ending.

#320744 Weekly Shonen Jump Placements

I don´t think so, double arts wasn´t popular in japan and even if fans voted for nisekoi they woudn´t keep doing it for 30+ weeks if they didn´t like the plot.

That was true during the time it was serialized, but it gained quite a lot of fans after it was cancelled. Wintercry is pretty accurate about a cult in Japan being formed. You'll see that it's still high up on the rankings on Japanese ranking sites.

As for what contributes to Nisekoi's success, I heard one of the factors is that it doesn't use ecchi to move forward in the plot.

Can someone fill me in on One Piece's ranking? (I don't want to know the story, I'll read the few chapters on my own) I just wish to know how it's been doing the past month or so.

One Piece's high rankings partially comes from an overwhelming support by its fanbase, which was layed out a few years ago 88% adults. Many of them probably buy the magazine mainly for the sake of reading that one series.

Oh come on, the blasting off away thing is a classic, though it doesn't make sense......

#314849 Most hated main character.

Posted by ValorantX on 21 August 2012 - 10:10 AM

OMG the main characters of Zero no Tsukaima. Louise is the biggest bitch I've ever seen and the reason I stopped watching mid-way Season 2. I understand of being violent over seeing your loved one always ogling over other girls, but half the time, it's a complete misunderstanding. Just the way she treats him is horrible...... torturing him all night by whipping him with thorns and treating him like a dog. I was seriously utterly disgusted. And how the hell is he still in love with her?! He must be a freaking masochist.

The people who think the series is romantic (and I'm saying this with much reservation) fuck you.

#314835 If you could change the Pokemon Anime

Posted by ValorantX on 21 August 2012 - 09:49 AM

Two things already said: Ash's age and there should be a better depiction of Pikachu's strength (he defeated 2 legendaries already *non-movie* but is pathetically defeated by Pokemon that aren't that strong)
