This place brings memories - especially memories of my terrible writing of a pre-teen. Looks like nothing much happens as often as before?

- The Non-sensical Adventures of Artur Ila & Co. -

The walls looked the same as usual, there was no breaks to the continuity that is this hallway. It was rather boring, with the only rush of adventures was when the two both fell down the rabbit hole and unto the second floor. Artur continued to examine the surroundings hoping that he would see something different from this bland scenery. Either there was nothing noticeable about these hallways or he is suffering from severe tunnel vision. Artur's unnamed companion was picking at his ear for sometime and it made Artur feel slightly off. Is there something irritating his ear? Did something get inside his ear during the fall? There was plenty of questions to be asked when he looked. The both of them felt a tad bit tense knowing that there are going to be stronger monsters on this floor and they are very unprepared for it. Deep breath in, and a deep breath out... the tension inside Artur slightly subsided.

His partner stopped walking for a moment and closed his eyes. Giving a deep breath in, it looked like he was also trying to keep himself calm and collected. Taking his sword, he twirled it fashionably around in a circle before skillfully slamming it inside his scabbard. This startled and amazed Artur for a moment, knowing that was pretty awesome of him. Then his partner opened his eyes and continued walking. Artur noticed that he fumbled a bit at the beginning, but shrugged that off. His partner turned his head around and glanced at Artur while digging into his ear once again.

"Dude," Artur spoke up, "is something wrong with your ear?"

That was when the stench of the room hit him. It was foul, it was putrid. Artur didn't even know what kind of scent it was, all he knew that it was horrifyingly bad.

"OH GO-"

"Ugh! Man what is that smell?" His partner asked.

"I'd be damned if I knew!" Artur replied while gagging a bit.

The two, reluctantly, walked forward. There was no going back now, it would be too tedious and dangerous to go back where they have came from. They walked up to an entrance to a large, dark cavernous room which the floor was covered some viscous and sticky fluid that hasn't even dried up yet. It was worse than an average teenage boy's room. The whole room was damp and silent, and it had this strange atmosphere that unsettled Artur. Meanwhile, he still couldn't pinpoint what kind of horrible smell it was, but it definitely smelled worse than rotting pie smear across a dead old person... if he even knew what a dead old person would've smelt like.

Suddenly, there was a strangle "tacking" noise behind Artur's ear. Like his partner, he started digging into his ear to find what the hell is making that annoying noise. It grew louder and louder until Artur turned around to see this horrifying skeletal-looking white creature that is the abomination of all things- a spider. This spider probably was behind them the whole time, and maybe Artur's partner could've been hearing this bugger for the longest time. It was pretty small, and knowing spiders and their hellish properties, there are probably more.

"It had to be spiders!" Artur grimaced when he looked at it. "Skeletal spiders!"

The nameless companion turned around at Artur and said while getting closer towards the ivory hellspawn,

"Since you took care of the dead-end, it looks it it's my turn. But if I look like I'm about to get me ass kicked, feel free to step in like a hero."

"Man, don't you have a sense of teamwork? Fine."

Artur took out his glaive in preparation if his friend is going to get his ass kicked. If he even showed a little amount of struggle, he was going to get in the fight.

His partner walked straight towards the spider with the hilt of his sword at hand. He looked pretty calm at the moment and with a sudden movement, he sprang forward while drawing his sword at the creature.

Frinia Royal Palace | South Gate -> Frinia Training Yard

Sofis carried out his orders without utter much of a word. Fighting what was his former compatriots who fell easily by his blade. He tried to keep them alive for they do not deserve to die, but he did see casualties throughout the battle.  His heart sunk as he seen Frinian soldiers die not by his hands, but by the hands of other Iconoclast. They were helpless by their might and it was little more than a one sided fight. Alas, Sofis couldn't let his emotions get in the way of the mission, so he continued straight forward. Under the order of Yoshirou, there was a sense of awe, unity, and grace that not any other group would ever accomplish. There was a strength between the people of different backgrounds and skills brought together under one goal. Sofis followed his diverse group of companions of colorful personalities, while keeping his wits around the young Serin Noir. Her strength and her avatar was awesome, albeit a bit uncontrolled, and it was no fault of the people here that they feared that power. Little did they no how futile it was to lock up such power in a vain attempt to contain it, and now it is fighting against them. That in turn already set the morale of the enemy soldiers into a whole new low.

The group gathered as one and said their own introductions towards Serin. Riichi in the warsuit just gave a nod, as it would prove a bit difficult communication-wise to say something in that mechanical wonder. It was about time for Sofis to say something back towards the young one.

“My name is Sofis Archae,” he introduced himself towards Serin. “Ex-general of the Frinian Army.”

Everyone continued forward until they reached a yard that leads to the royal palace. Sofis remembered this place very well for he trained with his old comrades. He never seemed to encounter his old friends, for they were surely alive since he had left awhile ago. Maybe they did fall honorably in combat in some other war and he didn't know, or maybe they fell in this current battle far away from where he was at. Alas, this wasn't the time to reminiscent about the what-if's and the past as there were soldiers awaiting from the walls and walkways. Then out comes out a face and name that Sofis immediately recognizes, Armand Guillory. Fear and respect struck down by Sofis' spine as he knew about how capable and strong Armand was. He fought with him before and he proved to be a might partner, and knowing that they would soon face him, it was going to be a difficult time.

"Yoshirou... To think the little boy I saw that day that changed Frinia's fate for this war, would now be standing here again, as a leader of a ragtag band... I must admit, I am impressed, thus I would not mind defeat here. Frinia has no future with it's current king, but even so, my duty as it's general is to protect it", he began, as if there was something projecting his voice as soon as he stopped walking.

"I had thought to use this field against the biggest waves of Raelin warriors as the last stand for Frinia, I would never have imagined to fight such a diverse bunch, so I am not sure whether to be pleased or angered... However... Do you know why the Frinian training grounds that you stand on, are the largest training grounds in all the lands?"

“No... this is not a good sign.”

Sofis already knew the answer. Turning towards the others he yelled with a bitter look, fearing what is there to come.

“STAY BACK!”

Soon as he said that, the earth shook and a top half of a giant golem arose from the depths of the training ground behind Armand. What they saw was Maxence, the largest recorded spirit avatar that history has ever written. The size could even dwarf Serin's Penumbra. Sofis looked at it in horror as he knew that they have to face it. The top half already stood a few stories high, adorning an brilliant suit of silver white armor that covered the rough granite body underneath. If it were fully summoned, it would've matched or even towered the royal palace.

"...It's so I have room to fight to my fullest in the case of an emergency. Now come! Witness and awe in the strength of Maxence!"

Maxence, the great spirit avatar made the opening move and slammed its giant fist towards the party's location. Everyone dispersed from the attack as Armand drew his sword; the movement between Spirit Avatar and Armand was separate, showing a degree of mastery that not many Avatar users have. Sofis knew it was about time before he had to summon his own Spirit Avatar, and this was the right occasion to do so now.

Yujeh!

When he dispersed away from his comrades, he called out his Spirit Avatar's name. A bright light appeared near Sofis and out that light was a beautiful woman with long flowing blonde hair. She was slightly larger than an average man, and was dazzling bright with crystal-like dress, contrasting to the deep darkness of Penumbra. Yujeh once brought a boost of morale among his troops back then by just the mere siight of her. Some soldiers in the vicinity who once fought by Sofis' side recognized the dazzling avatar from afar and were struck with awe and respect.

“Quickly! Come up with a plan! I'll try buy some time!” Sofis said sternly towards the others, if they were able to hear him.

Drawing his broadsword he rushed to clash swords with Armand as Yujeh called down a shower of magic crystals towards the foe. Armand was not the only one who had expertise with his own Spirit Avatar and this first clash of swords was going to be a personal one. Now the Supreme General and the ex-General would come clashing face-to-face not as allies under the Frinian banner, but as two foes who have respect for each other.

“It doesn't have to be this way, Armand.”

- The Non-sensical Adventures of Artur Ila & Co. -

Poking. A lot of poking. So much poking. There is no way that Artur should be poking that much in a day. But here he is, poking every single thing with his glaive. Surprisingly, all that poking didn't even dull the blade at all, so that was a nice thing to happen to him. But damn, did he look stupid poking everything. If it all comes down to it, it beats side-tracking... maybe. So there was Artur Ila, poking the walls like a mad man, with a sliver of hope that maybe, just maybe, some secret passageway will open up in this dead end. Luckily, that sliver of hope was proved truthful, but it wasn't because of all the poking. Artur moved around and stepped on a slightly raised stone on the floor. The stone sunk into the ground, revealing to be a secret button that let a wall descend from the ceiling, closing the two unlikely adventurers between two walls.

"Don't tell me I jinxed it." Artur winced. "Don't tell me I activated a trap."

Soon, the floor underneath them retreaded into the walls

"I think it's a trap."

When the two realized that there is no longer any ground that supported them, they both tumbled down like a terrible anecdote.

.

.

.

THUD. The two fell fifteen feet down and landed on a platform that was seemingly placed to anyone who actually did await it. It was slightly uncomfortable in the landing but there was nothing that caused any damage.

"Soo... it's not a trap."

Artur got himself up, dusting off the dirt from his pants. He looked around and noticed that they were in another similar passageway than where they were before sans the dead end. Kudos to the creators of this place because damn the passageways look so damn identical. The two companions looked behind and noticed that the spherical room is no longer behind them. They were at a whole new floor by the looks of it and by the whole falling spiel.

"I think we should find a way back to the entrance before we try to follow this path any farther, but what do you think we should do?", Artur's nameless companion asked as he continued to survey their surrounding while keeping a firm grip on the sword in his right hand.

Artur noticed that he lost his glaive and quickly searched the ground to retrieve it.

"Seems like a good idea. We should try to go back and rendezvous with other adventurers. By the looks of it, and by the way we fell down... I think we are at the second floor. World record there, bud, there is no way the others could've made the second floor at this pace..." Artur smiled but went back to all seriousness. "Let's go find an exit, but lets still keep an eye for anything, the monsters could be more dangerous here."

And together, they set forth once again into the unknown, searching for the exit they so desired.

I've got an idea! How about Artur uses his glaive and pokes around the dead-end for hidden doors, traps, or something else that may help us continue on our chosen path!

Yaay! Team Work!

The real hidden door that we discovered is the door of friendship and cooperation. Hah.

I made my post, and hopefully I didn't jinx it.

- The Non-sensical Adventures of Artur Ila & Co. -

Artur and his companion were prepared to face whatever may come against them. Artur got his glaive out and his companion in turn had his longsword, who knows what lies beyond this passageway and who knows if they might catch them off guard. There was a small sense of anticipation inside Artur. His first adventure, wow, exciting. The two adventurers walked silently for a few moments, keeping their senses up, until they both made a peculiar stop.

"Oh come on, you can't be serious." Artur groaned in disappointment. "This passageway lead to a bloody dead end. But I can't say I didn't get caught unaware of this... but maybe this was the completely logical reason to board this passageway up."

He chuckled a bit and went closer to the dead end to examine it. He felt it briefly and gave it a nice good kick, not strong enough to really hurt himself.

"Yup, with my expertise in dead ends this looks like a dead end." Artur turned towards his companion and gave a sarcastic thumbs up. "I'll be honest, I'm too lazy to go back all the way. I rather just make the effort to see if there is anything hidden around here."

Artur took his glaive and started poking everything with it.

"I swear if I activate a trap..."

Artur Ila

Svend, another beast man who was part owl from the chest up, was kind enough to break the wooden board that was placed in front of the passageway. It looked like he didn't give a single hoot when it came to breaking it down, so he looked like a pretty formidable adventurer. There was a little sense of shame inside of Artur as he was unable to remove that board and frankly was struggling with it. With his small act of kindness, Svend gave a proposition to Artur and the other guy that still hasn't told Artur his name. How rude.

”Pleasure to meet you both, I’m Svend and this here’s Zambo. Now that you both owe me, wanna tag along?”

"Nah, I'm OK for the moment. I still owe you though, but I don't have a single valis to my name..." Artur replied as he declined the offer. "My name is Artur Ila, and I hope we meet again. Maybe next time?"

Artur waved farewell to Svend and Zambo as he followed his new unofficial companion - because he said so - deep into the passageway. Then, as he was looking around the tunnel, he just had a small realization.

"Wait... we totally could've just crouched below that board..." Artur said with a slight groan. "I can't believe I didn't realize that sooner."

Artur's companion drew his longsword, which looked pretty cheap like Artur's own glaive, and looked behind his shoulder to look at Artur.

"You may want to ready your weapon,"  he turned to face forward again. "We don't want to be caught unaware, now do we?"

"True." Artur replied as he took out his glaive.

Artur Ila

Artur felt a little chill crawling down the back of his spine. Today was the day that he was going on his first adventure. He didn't know if the chills was coming from the excitement and anticipation or just plain nervousness. Maybe it is also because he has accidentally lost his mother's pendant and his pouch full of valis today. Perhaps it is all of those previous statements together in one twisted amalgamation of an emotion. All in all, things really weren't going well for Artur. Everything was a bit of a mess and out of order. But on the bright side, it is going to be the start of a brand new adventure, and he was pretty excited that he himself will finally start exploring the dungeons. Hopefully he wouldn't be adventuring alone because that would suck; adventuring alone is fine and all but the experience is meant to be shared.

At the same moment, Dagda looked down at the nervous Artur and gave a big grin. There was a sense of opportunity all over his face and Dagda, in all of his ways, had to seize the moment. "You feeling a bit cold there, Artur? You should go stand by the corner, it's 90 degrees there." He gave a hearty chuckle as Artur groaned with a slight grin over his face. Artur never really hated Dad jokes but man did he start having an appreciation for them.

The brief moment of slight enjoyment was quickly abrupted when the god Seth appeared on the scene.

"Hey, wow, Inari! You're packing on the weight there huh?! What have you been eating?" He glanced across at Dagda. "Has she been on your diet there big man? I thought that was a Familia secret, reserved only for those who are gunna become especially pointless." He flashed a smile at Artur who was standing nearby.

"You what mate?" Artur thought to himself when Seth insulted him. "I know I'm not great at anything, but damn."

After hearing those words, Artur sulked for a moment. Eventually, Seth got bored and the little ceremony ended and Dagda gave a little "good luck" to Artur and bid farewell.

Artur and the other new adventurers walked down the long hallway and arrived at the large spherical room - much to Artur's disappointment as there was no corners to stand next to in order to warm up - that was lined with passageways. It didn't take a long while before the fox lady that looked to be around his age immediately jump into action, dragging the zombie man and another unsuspecting bloke with her into the passageway marked with a skull yelling:

"Now boys, a new adventure awaits!!"

At least someone got some enthusiasm around here. Artur sighed in relief, thankful that he wasn't the one to be dragged into adventure without any real say. He looked back up to see the lion-beast adventurer went into the passageway marked with swords. Artur's fellow adventurers are already acting fast, and he didn't want to be the one to choose last. He saw a young guy head towards the door that was boarded over and immediately started to try to take the board off. On the back of Artur's head, heading towards the boarded off passageway was not going to be the best of plans, but it was going to be interesting regardless. He decided to join the young guy and headed towards the boarded off passageway.

"Hey, let me help you with that!" Artur said with a slight grin. "I've been rather board lately. Anyways, I'm Artur, and you are?"

With that horrible pun aside, he began trying to take off the board off with, hopefully, a good adventuring comrade.

Edit: I dug up old drawings to compare the progress that I have achieved, and these old drawings are only two years old. I can't believe I thought I was a really good artist back in the day, whew, high school totally beat that idea out of my head. I even considered pursuing the arts for post-secondary last year, but that has changed because I realized that would have been more difficult than I originally had thought. Going to pursue Computer Science now, and even that is going to be bloody difficult, no?
