#1622467 Notification that a followed manga has been removed from Batoto

Posted by Nyuu3 on 19 July 2015 - 07:24 PM

There's a lot of manga I've been following that kinda went out with a whimper at some point. There's nothing I can do if the Japanese releases or translations actually stop, but sometimes the series has just been removed from Batoto for one reason or another. I think it'd be nice if the manga's followers got some kind of notification whenever this happens.

I'd like to see a Surreal tag. Usually this kinda stuff is just thrown under fantasy/supernatural, but it feels completely different.

People who read that comment will easily figure out that the discussion continues in the Spoiler Tags - and soon enough, why- and they will be able to read further by Clicking the Spoiler Button, should they want to read the rest of the Comment.

That's cool too, but if the whole post is spoilered, then it should be absolutely required to describe it outside. One way or another, it should be clear if the "spoiler" is going to spoil anything, because if it isn't, you're making the spoiler tag useless.

But really, if the heavily moderated comment sections like TWGOK's are any indication of what it's gonna be like, I'd still have to be a moron to read them before I'm caught up with the manga. All you did is delete the explicit statements, but there's still thinly veiled implications lying everywhere and I could easily piece together the whole if I read three of them. If your plan is to make the place safe, you will fail, and if not, I don't see any point in moving to a less convenient platform.

I have _personally_ had the staff delete an entire discussion in a comment section, because every single one of the comments contained raw spoilers. There were other times I've had the staff do something about comments.

It's not fun to have blatant spoilers out there for everybody to see, especially raw spoilers where it's bad for EVERYBODY, not just new readers.

Yeah, and I'm saying the new policy creates more room for mistakes instead. Rather than doing something about raw spoilers, which I agree are a big problem, it blurs the line between them and several types of harmless spoilers. Before, I could just avoid those buttons altogether for manga I particularly cared about, but now all the interesting stuff is gonna be inside them. I'll have to always be on my toes for some idiot that used the tag wrong.

the comments section hasn't been used as it was designed.

Yeah, it was used better. Instead of some three-line-review nonsense, it was literally the single most convenient place to discuss current manga chapters in the goddamn galaxy. Because you land right there when you've finished reading. You can talk about whatever you want, or if there's nothing you want, you can go with the flow of the conversation. Sure, there's some shit in there that I'd like to weed out, but if you just wanna protect the new readers, you can as well put "There may be spoilers up to the latest chapter below" on top of it and encourage forum use otherwise. If you actually restrict us to the forums, it'll just slow down and scatter the conversation.
I'd like you to be a bit more lenient with large posts and images, but if you wanna restrict that, fine. But I really think the current chapter content should stay.

Oh, but if you do plan to encourage spoiler buttons for anything and everything, you should absolutely require people to describe what's inside. That should be one of the basic rules. Without descriptions, the comment section is just gonna be a minefield.

#1016911 Links to delayed releases in RSS feeds

Posted by Nyuu3 on 21 December 2013 - 02:56 AM

I was wondering if you could only send an update to the "my follows" RSS feed when releases are actually available, not as soon as they're uploaded. Delayed releases don't show up on a number of other site sections and I don't see any reason to make an exception here.

Well, this was honestly more of a bug report than a feature suggestion, so I have an extra idea in case it's ignored. I think the page that opens up when you navigate to a delayed release should be a bit more informative. At it needs to least contain a link to the manga page. Better yet, point us towards the scanlators' websites.
