hmm...this is getting just as gory as Elfen Lied, that's for sure. Those stomach churning scenes of melting bodies are kinda nostalgic. The recent chapter makes me wonder more about what or who the "Harnessed" really are. Maybe they're aliens (that thing that Ryouta stepped on) using humans as hosts?

The whole melting kinda reminds me of
Spoiler

As for these parasites, they definitely don't look like something nature come produce...aliens is the obvious thought, but it's too cliche. Maybe these things were made by humans? These scientist people?

...Elfen Lied is known for incredibly high graphic violence and torture scenes. I wouldn't say yet so far that it has become that gory as of yet

As for those powers.....it's strange that those pills are produced at a human factory. It could be the result of a human-alien relationship or aliens who disguise themselves as human beings.

So I kinda wonder about that thing about Kana..."you can totally move if you want to". There's gotta be a specific reason as to why she doesn't, in that case, as her not moving only causes Neko troubles...though perhaps, to be able to make her move, there's some dangerous ordeal that Kana doesn't want Neko to go through?

Ever since I've read Kazumi's comment in panel 3, I've been thinking of what she meant. Normally you'd think she meant she had a second magic and is actually an A-rank, but that doesn't add up. If she did have such power, they would've used it in the battle for their lives in the factory, or at least she would've mentioned it in the "mission briefing" before heading out, so it can be factored in the plan and possibly increase the chance of its successes. And if Neko was the one she meant by it, the same applies about her not using it to save her self in the battle with the AA magician. But they didn't use any other magic. In addition it was Kana that got mad at that comment, not Neko, even though she supposedly had no reason to be upset if Kazumi wasn't an A-rank magician gloating her powers.

From that I can theorize that in reality, Kana is an A-rank magician with a second ability that allows her to move around, and has kept this fact hidden from Neko. Why does she not use it? My guess is that it comes with a price, much like time-rewinding for the girl in the factory. The price could be physiological, like the memory loss that Neko suffers, rather than just a temporary loss of magic, or it could be harmful to those around her, which explains why she doesn't use it around Neko.

Since it has a negative impact on herself or others, it's only purpose is making her move (at least for now), and she wants to hide it from Neko, it'd make sense that she did not mention it in the plan.

*Is thinking the parasites are the aliens that Kuroneko claimed she'd found as a child, and they are using human's bodies as some kind of host, whether they could be giving powers, or feeding off powers given to humans by the scientists. Maybe Kuroneko's parasite is feeding off her memories?* <------ Just some suggestions.

New chapter is getting me excited for the next one. Can't wait to see what kinda supahpowah this new chick'll pull out of he sleeves.

My, my... Have Okamoto Lynn finally took some drawing lessons? Like really, Elfen Lied manga made my eyes bleed. Only being EL anime fan made me read it through (and frankly - it was ridiculous).
Regardless, this one might not be Berserk-level, but it is enjoyable. Story doesn't seem to fall into "Nyuu-Myuu-tarpit" either just yet.
Good :)

Most Japanese readers actually think Elfen Lied was better for its dark themes and plot (from what I know from the internet anyways) but Elfen Lied was not Berserk-level content... just a lot of gore.

Katzila: Even if she does have a second ability, the ranking of these "magic users" may still be assessed differently.

And what about the 3rd button on the harnessed? I’m thinking that the button actually does something good, but the bad guys are telling lies about it just to scare the girls and make them not to press it. Though I’m unsure what kind of good it could be, and why the scientists felt compelled to put it there. I mean, it doesn’t really make sense for it to be “something scarier than death”, right? If it’s there, it has to be important, but how could “something scarier than death” have any heavy impact on the plot?

Edit: I’ve read that the message in German is wrongly translated, a more correct translation is something along the lines of “Kill the witches immediately. I will take care of that for you, if you have nothing against that.” another take was: “Kill the witches immediately. I will clear up the matter for you when you have no objections to it.”

Edit2: I just thought of something weird, Kuroneko’s 3 moles are in the shape of a triangle, and positioned like the 3 buttons are on the harnessed. lol

The Japanese text in the raws doesn't match up with the German words written in the message on the phone. Lynn should take some German lessons.

I was re-reading the manga, and I don’t understand this part: http://vatoto.com/read/_/82447/gokukoku-no-brynhildr_ch2_by_trinity-bakuma/8 http://vatoto.com/read/_/82447/gokukoku-no-brynhildr_ch2_by_trinity-bakuma/18 what’s it supposed to mean, exactly? I looked up some kanji for the two words, 排水溝 is drainage, but “tetsuzanko” doesn’t seem to be anything significant… and anyway, Kuroneko should know the prediction because Kana told her by voice, so what does writing even have to do with anything?

Edit: another thing: http://vatoto.com/read/_/84339/gokukoku-no-brynhildr_ch3_by_trinity-bakuma/21 Kana says “There’s… nothing we can do anymore.” which implies she’s dead, which is also the only way Kana would know about it, by predicting her death… but I think Kana doesn’t know precisely when a death she sees happens, so how could she know that it’s already too late? Edit: http://vatoto.com/read/_/96805/gokukoku-no-brynhildr_ch11_by_trinity-bakuma/9 it’s clear that Kana actually knows the time of death from here, but I remember it being otherwise, in a later conversation they had. http://vatoto.com/read/_/106569/gokukoku-no-brynhildr_ch16_by_trinity-bakuma/3 here she explains her ability, but doesn’t mention the fact that she can tell when it happens. The incident with the swapping girl also didn’t seem like she had much of an idea about the time it’d happen. Not sure why the contradiction. It could be that she saw a clock in her prediction of the woman in red, even though I don’t see any in those pages. But what about the first one I mentioned? She could’ve been lying to keep Kuroneko safe, but these explanations are lame.

These two pages are also contradicting http://vatoto.com/read/_/81781/gokukoku-no-brynhildr_ch1_by_trinity-bakuma/12 http://vatoto.com/read/_/87937/gokukoku-no-brynhildr_ch6_by_trinity-bakuma/5 lol

And I don’t understand the bad guys at all. They seem to keep in high regard killing-machine-mages, 2 of them being the A ranks sent to kill the escapees. Why? Were they really so stupid to think that they necessitated mages that could kill other mages, but then didn’t think of just putting those remote controls to eject the harnessed into everyone’s necks? They don’t seem to care a lot about the mages either, killing tons and tons of them, even the first A-rank that was sent to kill the escapees. Nothing of what they’re doing seems to make sense. Edit: http://vatoto.com/read/_/91173/gokukoku-no-brynhildr_ch8_by_trinity-bakuma/6 Kuroneko even knows about the beacons. Yet, she doesn’t have one installed. That seems like such a stupid oversight.

About ranks themselves: killing potential seems to be important, with things such as being a super hacker, destroying anything (non-human) at any distance as long as you’re able to see it and swapping your position with someone else being discarded as failures. But on the other hand, being able to predict some deaths of people close to you, and something about being able to move(?) is considered A-rank. This too doesn’t make much sense to me. And this opens another parenthesis: how did Kuroneko and Kana get together? If Kuroneko was the B-rank being transported to be killed, then Kana was the paralized A-rank in the custody at the lab that nobody knows the position of. It’s hard to think that Kana was able to escape by herself… or is that really what her second ability is about?

http://vatoto.com/read/_/89748/gokukoku-no-brynhildr_ch7_by_trinity-bakuma/6 funny how he mentions “Double-A”, yet her second ability is completely useless, and it’s the ultimate reason why the good guys live and the bad one dies.

http://vatoto.com/read/_/91173/gokukoku-no-brynhildr_ch8_by_trinity-bakuma/11 so magic uses up blood? Something I hadn’t noticed.

http://vatoto.com/read/_/107857/gokukoku-no-brynhildr_ch17_by_trinity-bakuma/12 looking at this and the following pages, it’s strange that the corpse doesn’t show any signs of dissolving. With the first assassin, the reaction was pretty quick. Seems like removing the entire harnessed doesn’t make the body dissolve?

http://vatoto.com/read/_/110078/gokukoku-no-brynhildr_ch18_by_trinity-bakuma/4 here another contradiction, “3 meters range”, but it was 6 in the fight chapters. :/

http://vatoto.com/read/_/84339/gokukoku-no-brynhildr_ch3_by_trinity-bakuma/23 he’s not pressing any button there… lol. Also at the beginning Kuroneko was embarassed when the guy touched her arm to check for muscles, and said something like “of course I’d be, I’ve never been touched like that before”, but in later chapters she questions her feelings of embarassment, asking herself “what is this?”. Another thing that doesn’t make much sense.

http://vatoto.com/read/_/122324/gokukoku-no-brynhildr_ch22_by_trinity-bakuma/6 here Kuroneko says she can affect things as far as she can see with her magic, but in the Kikako fight she said that she had to get closer to use her magic. Contradictions everywhere.

This is another important part that’s hard to understand: http://vatoto.com/read/_/129434/gokukoku-no-brynhildr_ch24_by_trinity-bakuma/16 what are they talking about? Who’s 5010? 6010 was the first assassin, by the way. If 5010 is supposed to be Kikako, then the one she says she encountered must be Kuroneko. They’re saying they don’t care about her life, but they care about “Grane”. This sounds like a codename for those aliens… it could mean that there are specific aliens that create specific powers, and they want Kuroneko’s power. Seems like removing the harnessed by force keeps the alien alive, even though it doesn’t look like it from an image in the Kikako arc.

Well, I’ve gotten on par with the translated release now. Let’s not forget the enemy has sent out 5210, and if I count right, there are still 11 escapees alive. 4 of those we know already, so 7 left.

About these numbers: 5010, 6010, 5210… it seems obvious that they’re a pair, 10 being something in common with all 3. Maybe defining they’re assassins? And the important girl: 1107, possibly Kuroneko. Low first half number, and 7 instead of 10.

Latest chapter: http://vatoto.com/read/_/140089/gokukoku-no-brynhildr_ch29_by_trinity-bakuma/10 1107 and 7620, I think then it’s confirmed that Kuroneko is 1107 and the teleport girl (I forget her name) is 7620, though what the numbers actually mean I still have no idea.

Then we finally see 5210, who has some kind of power to manipulate memories by looking her in the eyes? And she’s going after Grane, Kuroneko’s alien (supposedly) now. I don’t remember if her rank has been mentioned, but she’s gonna have at least a second power that we haven’t seen yet.

Another point of interest: http://vatoto.com/read/_/140089/gokukoku-no-brynhildr_ch29_by_trinity-bakuma/5 so if Kana moves, Kuroneko dies? Don’t know what to make out of that.

I just want to bring this post up again. I was close in that it does harm someone around her, and in this case it was Neko. Now the question is why it's only Neko that's affected.

Latest chapter is really interesting, I’m guessing the AA+ will now go and join Kuroneko and the others.

Though I wonder why she wasn’t controlled better. All the runaway girls really shouldn’t have been able to run away in the first place.

Alaktorn, I highly doubt that AA+ user will live long because if the guy does not report to the facility in a certain amount of time she will get ejected and the thing on her cap she can't take it off and also... she gets ejected. She is as good as dead unless she can someone make the guy turn into her side and con the facility into releasing the thing on her cap. Other than that... she is as good as dead.

That she could be ejected has never been mentioned, I think that they didn’t put the remote control on her for some reason.
