Unless some corporation in New Zealand has licensed the manga in question you aren't actually going to be breaking any New Zealand copyright laws.
Any chance you can add a way to upload the favorite list from Batato so we don't have to manually re-enter every single one?

I'd say give it a week or two, once groups have a chance to get organized we'll start seeing which one they prefer as their primary site.  If you're worried about which one to make you own as contributor, I'd say look at what features it has right now and what's being promised and decide what's going to work better for you.

We confirmed on reddit that other stuff will be okay to post. Just haven't got around to updating rules and support needs to be added. The only think we want to avoid is western content.

 

There's several other rule changes that are going to be updated following discussion with groups in our irc channel #mangadex on rizon. Feel free to stop by if you have anything you want to discuss.

 

There's a lot of features people have requested and bugs that need fixing which will start to be rolled out soon.

@Ixlone: are you sure it's ok to host 18+ material? That thing is quite a reputation drain imho, not good if you plan to attract scanlation groups because not all of them would like to upload their works if your site is percieved as an hentai one.

Do you mean wanting to avoid Amurican MAFIAA-like entities or also Europe? I don't recall any DMCAs for the latter stuff if you're worried about harassment.

As long as you don't primarily market yourself as a porn site you'll be fine with having erotic stuff as well, same as any bookstore which has a smut section that's cordoned off from the people who don't want to look at it. Your current filter works fine IMO, it was refreshingly honest to see right from the front page that there was not only 18+ stuff on the site but that they had made it opt in only.

 

If later down the line it's causing issues and needs to be changed then sure, do whatever, but as is there's no problem (though i'd recommend requiring a registered account to be able to actually turn off the filter and/or actually read those manga).

I know I'd prefer it on a different domain as a user (that doesn't read H titles) for a couple of reasons.

 

The main reason, which I know many will disagree with the merits of, is that having a separate domain is the precursor to having sensible rules against posting H stuff in the comments and forums.

 

Blame it on puritan-derived sensibilities if you will, but having NSFW stuff in the comments, even behind spoilers, tends to kill my desire to read and participate in them, by raising the general level of ick past the threshold where I feel like I have to be alert and on guard all the time.

Honestly, right now MangaRock has the 1 feature I wanted -- which is "What is recently popular!?" , so I am going to take a closer look at it than MangaDex.
That being said, since I at least know that Dex was just established, I can expect some features to be added. Like "recently popular in the last 6 hours", thumbnail previews and actually having comments enabled, which is something that mangaRock is also missing right now.

Time will tell, eh.

Whether to remove the content entirely or host it on a different domain is up to you, all I'd say is that I personally wouldn't like it on a site where I'm registered to read manga. Same reasoning as pokari.
