#1169957 Replacing speed scans done by a different scanalator

Thanks for your colourful post. I've changed your group entry to reflect your wish to not have any of you're releases on Batoto. Good luck in your future endeavours.

#942609 Downtime - 26th & 27th 3AM to 6AM CDT

is this gonna be a regular thing or do they just do maintenance whenever they feel like it?

Well in the last 2 years we've been there, earlier this month and this weekend are the only time they did it. Frankly, it's odd in my view that they let it go down at all. Should just let backup power run while half the power circuit is offline.

A question.  I noticed that, as of Saturday morning (the 26th), the "My Content" part of my profile showed as having nothing in it, and it is still that way.  Has this happened to everyone, or did I break some rule by posting too much, or some such thing?

Has been addressed. Thanks for pointing it out.

#410154 What made you switch over to Batoto; What got you to stay? And do you switch...

Like some people said before me I was reading some random manga (Taiyou no Ie I think) on some random manga site (Mangafox) and just before the chapter started a page said something along the lines of sites like Mangafox and affiliates being unfair to the scanlator and that on Batoto the quality was better and they had the consent of the scanlators. I was curious so I came and checked and as I compared the quality on Batoto and on Mangafox I realized just how shitty the quality I was used to always was.

I guess what convinced me of using Batoto was the quality, just so freaking beautiful! Plus I like being able to at least support the scanlators that put so much of their time into the manga and Mangafox was being a bully! Lol!

Long story, sorry!

I only visit other sites when Batoto doesn't offer it. Mangareader for Jump and Mangafox for randoms and archives. However, the terrible quality there made me realize how amazing a full-quality scan really was.

One HUGE advantage of Batoto over other sites is that because many scanlators upload personally and directly to this site, more obscure (or scanlated by smaller groups) manga, such as Again!!, and even doujin, are available here, and only here (bots can't find everything).

The community is another thing. The mere fact that primarily using Batoto is slightly more tedious than visiting a "no policies honored" aggregate site site as Mangafox means that the community is more likely to be mature, intelligent, and tolerant. At the very least most forumists attempt to use basic grammar (checking a forum at MF made me lol: "why gir soooo dumbb!!"). I only fear that as Batoto grows in size, some of the...less informed will bring along their ignorance.

But for now, I'm enjoying it as much as I can.

I'm not addicted to manga or anything, so I'm fine with slightly slower releases. If there's something that I absolutely have to read as soon as it comes out, I usually follow the scanlator's RSS feed. I stopped reading on mangafox even before I knew they were [insert several threads worth of complaints here], simply because I don't like their lower-resolution images. I don't care about superior features or whatever, I don't even use advanced search engines on mangareaders. I just use mangaupdates for that sort of thing.

I personally feel like this site is superior, since it has the high res images I like and a great community. The mangafox community mostly just annoyed me, which is why I wasn't really a part of it. This site also has that really nifty 'follow' feature, which I don't think mangafox has. Gosh I love that thing. And you know, the design here just looks better. I can't be the only person who takes enjoyment from browsing a well-designed website, right?

Not to mention I get that nice feeling of "Hey, I'm actually sorta contributing to something here!" as opposed to that slightly gross feeling of "I'm totally encouraging these guys to keep doing terrible things!" Like the difference between eating a chocolate bar with that friendly "Fair Trade" mark on it, versus eating a Hershey bar and feeling guilty about all the impoverished workers that were exploited for it. Or maybe that's just me.
