It's just hit me... if Baam is loosely based on Ico... then Rachel's the darkest possible take on Yorda, ever (but, if you know her story... "dark" wasn't all that far away). Well, it explains quite a bit, if you've played that game (which, I wholeheartedly recommend <thumbs up>: it and Shadow of the Collossus have been ported to the PS3... and, neither have aged badly at all what with the non-standard gameplay and epic scenery porn helping out).

Interesting note: Yorda comes across as pretty much nothing but baggage for almost the whole darned game. Then, her backstory hits with a vengence... <wince> If you spent your time swearing at her, you get a fair few rather uncomfortable moments dealing with the fact that you've been swearing at one of the most abused people in games (enough to give Alessa Gillespie a run for her money). And, Ico isn't far behind. In fact, he's ahead of her in the absued stakes in a lot of ways. (For a PG game with no actual blood, as such, and such light-filled, airy graphics: it's dark with an emphasis on Fridge Realisations*.)

For those who don't have the time to play either (and/or don't mind spoilers): ICO and Shadow of the Collossus c/o TV Tropes.

Oh... did I mention that both games are incredbily good? If possible; play, rather than read.


*When you happily play along... leave to get a drink... and, something about what you've just been doing hits you with the mallet of hindsight. That something can be brilliantly clever, funny, a plot-hole (once you've puzzled at it a bit)... or totally horrible.

Ico and Yorda are... inseperable in more ways than I can explain without horribly spoilering the whole game. So, I'll stick to less-spoilery. She is the one Ico has to both protect and drag along with him through all the puzzles (while trying to stop the shadows taking her away). In a way, she's the goal (leave to save her), the timer (take too long solving the puzzles, and the shadows decend to take her), the key (without her, Game Over)... and, the obstacle (won't flaming move without Ico holding her hand and has the all spacial awareness and incentive of a rock unless Ico mimes what to do and where to go -- although, she does help in her own way: passively most of the time), often enough. Please note: she's practially incapable of acting on her own unless pushed to... for reasons you find out about as you play.

She's also the only human face he can remember seeing: and, he's the only alive person she's seen for longer... so, neither is willing to give the other up (and, there's a twist to that).

And, she's not just a McGuffin (although, you'd be forgiven for thinking that for most of the time).

I pretty much think that´s going to be the case. Her redemption would depend on one thing. Did she really try to kill Baam but FUG knew he would survive? or she knew she wasn´t killing him but just giving him a reason to keep climbing? Last part could be for her own benefit or not.

Oh... did I mention that both games are incredibily good? If possible; play, rather than read.

This game has been on my wish list for some years now. But it´s there is just not enough money or time to get and play all the psone and ps2 that I want. Heck, I even have some PsOne games right now that are re-makes of Super Nintendo(Chrono Trigger), Sega Cd(Lunar 2: Eternal Blue) and even the first Nintendo(Final Fantasy I and II)! .

But, "McGuffin" is a lot older than TV Tropes (heck, I knew the word way before I even hit the web)... If Hitchcock makes a word to describe a readily apparent plot device popular, you stick with it.

YuHansung has distributed his portrait here and there in an extremly cheap price for a ranker. YuHansung had taken great amount of photos of Quant in case he quit the job.

Several hundred years are still left until the contract is up. Everytime Quant sees his new advertisements, he cries with regret.

By the way, Quant is a very popoular advertising model for products like 'punching machine', 'chewing food', 'crackers' etc.
