Only ever tried playing one VN: Clannad, and that was because its second season was my absolute favourite anime and a friend convinced me to try out the VN. I couldn't last more than ten minutes, I just found the whole format weird.

I had a realization after seeing a few painful minutes of an older anime adaptation of Air that Key Studios was, for a particular few-year stint, exceptionally good at cleaning up their games for anime (Both in de-lewding and in re-framing everything for a compelling third-person narrative).

Looking it up right now, it seems Clannad was never an eroge anyway, unlike Air—and I never played either—but I'm not at all surprised to hear that playing the game was a pretty different experience from watching the series.

(I think the only VN I ever played any of was an incredibly sordid and racy thing my sister brought back from some convention. The protagonist was not only dark and brooding, but literally Satan incarnate (but amnesiac!), not to mention a flaming bisexual, and a whole bunch of twisted and kinky stuff was going on—I was so far from being the target audience that I spent a decent portion of the game laughing off my posterior, and a good bit of the rest getting slightly traumatized. I did somehow make it to one of the game's many endings, though—fortunately for me not a particularly racy one—and that was the end of that.)

But I saw the headline and it caught my attention
So this guy age thirty five took his two girls to camping in Irvine and he got shot in the chest

Not sure what becoming an MC entails, to be honest. Is(n't) everyone an MC relative to the story of their own lives? Becoming powerful also seems like work, though it's probably easier than becoming strong.
