This is a complicated question to answer. I'm assuming you mean the rules of an individual forum game, set by its original poster (OP), rather than rules set by Vatoto for the Forum Games subforum as a whole.

By and large, my answer is yes. But I do like some creative license here and there -- what one wouldn't ordinarily call following the rules -- (such as utilising missing clauses from the rules set by the OP), if it makes a game more interesting. I'm also kind of into changing the rules of an old dying/dead game completely if everyone agrees upon it and follows the new rules. However, in my opinion, blatantly ignoring rules and trying to sabotage a forum game only makes it less interesting for everyone involved, feels disrespectful towards the OP, and takes away the whole point of the game, so that's something I'm definitely not into.
