Contract: Acrux - The Southern Cross

- Acrux imbues its contractor with the ability to move himself or objects within physical contact nearly instantaneously to a nearby location. This ability is commonly known as "Blink". 

 

History: Crow is a native of the Vulpos district, home of the beastados. He lived a fairly normal life, or normal for the beastados, which consisted of moving about the large desert and hunting dangerous genetically-engineered beasts for food and clothing. Crow quickly took to hunting as his favorite thing to do, and he proved that he was quite good at it. His ability to blink made avoiding strikes from the animals significantly easier than it would be for someone who had to dodge it by physically avoiding the attack instead of simply moving themselves out of the way. Crow played with his contract often, testing out what he could do with it, though this was often to the ire of his parents or whoever's property just got blinked away. Crow rarely interacted with the majority of his fellow Vulpos residents, and instead stuck to his tight-knit group of close friends. He was uninterested in getting a ton of new friends when he had his small group of people he knew he could rely on. Being something of an introvert led to few social interactions beyond his own circle other than those required by meetings and the like. Despite his nature, Crow became fairly well-known as a hunter within the district. He easily took down large beasts with the combination of his knife skill and his contract. When he wasn't busy hunting or helping about the district, Crow spent his time carving charms and necklaces and the like out of the bones of the creatures he hunted.

 

Eventually Crow grew tired of the endless tedium that simple living in the Vulpos district entailed, and at the age of 17 he set out to travel to other districts. A year later, Crow finally found a new place to settle as home, the Sarkose district. The Empress of Fire welcomed the emigrant with open arms. For the next year, Crow lived among the militaristic Sarkose and studied military tactics, which he found incredibly interesting. Crow continued his hobby of hunting and carving. He would occasionally be so satisfied with a bone charm he created that he would present it as a gift to the Empress as a symbol of his gratitude for allowing him to stay with the Sarkose. When the call for able-bodied contractors to join the Sun Brigade came to Sarkose, Crow felt compelled to join. If he could give back to the people who had supported him through his life so far by defending his home district of Vulpos and his new home of Sarkose, then he'd gladly fight. Fight and kill the enemy.

He was class representative, then student president, and you know that at the rate he’s climbing, he’s going to places in the future. Now, the only thing you have to know about the student president of the military academy is that above everything else, he values fun and the enjoyment of youth. He believes that everyone deserves a chance to prove themselves, and many people place him as a mentor figure above their own parents and teachers for their beliefs. What he has is a wisdom born from his own simplicity.

But you know, he still loves fun, so he can be a kid at times, as well.

Hades 666:  Ezekiel’s contract is one that would cause people to believe he is the devil incarnate.  An eerie, demon-like energy flows through his body.  He can manipulate that energy freely.  Creating objects out of that energy or firing it off like a Kamehameha.  He can use it to shield himself from attacks or to allow himself to fly.  As a side product, he is cold to the touch and you can almost feel the energy he has touching you as though cold fingers were examining your body.  Lastly, he as the ability to use his demonic energy like an aura to either break your will into fear or bind you into a contract that you must fulfill, with consequences varying from death to other things. 

 

History:

Ezekiel was born rather privileged.  Both of this parents were accomplished members of their districts with his mother being a financial guru of Xide while his father was a high semi-high ranking member of Sarkose.  Due to the duties of his parents, Ezekiel rarely spent time with his parents.  Seeing either one of them seemed like a holiday and when both were there, it was like a miracle.  To everyone but Ezekiel.

 

You see, Ezekiel was a child that never really felt like he belonged.  He felt like he was confined and caged up.  This was not a metaphor relating to living in the Stahlwelt but, was him feeling like he was meant to do more than he was already doing.  Going to school to learn about financial matters or getting self-defense lessons every day was all cool in his mind but, he did not want to grow up JUST to inherit a business from his mother or to join the rank UNDER his father’s lead until Col. Balrog died or retired.  In his mind, his destiny was his to choose and his existence eclipsed all others that lived.  Ezekiel, in his mind, only wanted one thing in his life…to become the Sun King himself.  However, his dream would not be realized until he got rid of the barriers preventing him from moving on. 

 

It was his birthday and he was finally tasked with the decision of choosing the path of finance or a life of a military man.  His parents both showed up and showed him tons of affection, in which he returned to them.  He did not hate his parents at all in fact, he was very thankful to them for providing him with so much knowledge and training with their money and fame.  They threw a grand party with many people that Ezekiel knew and had never seen before being present.  Some of his classmates came because their parents were friends with his own but none of them were really friends. 

 

The next day, his parents invited him into a room where they stood on either end and only asked one question “Choose”.  He looked over to his mom and then his dad.  There was a choice that needed to be made.  Ezekiel looked over to them both one more time before looking straight ahead and smiling, “I already made up my mind before came yesterday.”  Ezekiel then turned his head to his mother. “I’m sorry mom.” He turned towards his father and headed towards his pops.  Col. Balrog stood there with his arms open with a father’s joy pouring from his kool-aid smile that only showed itself when a parent is proud of their child.  The two shared a warm embrace for a moment.  Ezekiel had made his mind up as a man and was ready to take his next step in life.

 

“I’m also sorry dad.”

 

Everything went black for the Col.  There was a hole where his vital organs used to be that lead through the door causing uproar due to the sound of the blast.  As his father fell to the ground, he summoned a hand that grabbed his mother and crushed her body.  All of her bones were broken and she could do nothing but look around and cry.  Ezekiel walked over slowly to her and sat down.  He held her in his arms as she cried hysterically from both emotional and physical pain.  Her world was shattering right in front of her and her son was the wrecking ball who was doing it. 

 

She looked up at him as he held her tightly, looked back at her husband and then back at him and asked “Why??” with the weakest voice one could muster. Ezekiel looked at her and smiled and responded, “Because your purpose for living has been completed.  You gave birth to me and gave me all of the tools I needed to succeed in life.  All you can do now is get in my way.  So rest eternally and may God keep your soul.”  With that he pulls out a gun and pulls the trigger.  That was the first time his contract was released. 

 

Needless to say, he was arrested and charged with the crime he committed.  There he laid in wait for the time for when he would be able to make his escape.  The time where he would begin his march towards his destiny.  Good thing the Sun Brigade decided to recruit from anyone and anybody and he had been an angel while in prison so he was granted freedom while under strict supervision to ensure Ezekiel does not break the terms of his release.  The government took every measure to ensure they could foil any plans of Balrog. Or was he the one manipulating them? Who knows cause this was poorly written.

Reality Marble(Real Hell)[15]: This reality marble is a world where it feels like hell.  Fire and brimstone spurt about everywhere.  The sound of souls screaming are heard everywhere and demons fly about.  In this word, the person who enters this place is set on fire and tortured as if they were sent to hell.  You are constantly burning over and over. This world was not created to kill a person but to break them down through pain and suffering.

Cassandra is a battle android developed as something of a supervisor for criminals who were released on behalf of recruitment by the military academy for the Sun Brigade. While there are multiple androids that are similar to Cassandra, she herself had been assigned to you, the prisoner, and as such, she is pretty much your personal warrior, who will fight to protect you and provide a sense of companionship, especially in an environment where it can be assumed you will be incredibly isolated.

But she’s also programmed to execute you should you break your contract, so be careful with what you order her to do.

Name: Typhon

Age: 37

Gender: Male

 

Occupation: Exotic Animal Acquisitions

 

Contract: Gamma Draco (Etamin): Head of the draco constellation, representative of the Father of Monsters, Typhon the Titan. It's contract grants Typhon the ability to mold organic matter into whatever he could wish. Dead matter is easy to use, dumb animals easy as well, but anything magical can be difficult for his power to process. The natural magical aura acts like an immune system against his contract, forcing him to incapacitate anything magical that doesn't feel like having it's insides remade.

 

History: Monster. It was Typhon's first title and it will be his last. Born disfigured, Typhon's arrival was marked as an ill omen for the superstitious farmers of the Yalin district, and unfortunately for the boy, the three years following his birth marked the lowest crop yields in history. Disease, animals, everything that could possibly destroy the fields seemed to aggregate solely around Typhon's family home. His family was first to be ruined financially, but poverty began spreading like the diseases that were just as cannily killing off the crops. Each year the crops struggled, the mutterings about the strange little boy would get darker and darker.

 

After the the third year, local animal populations were high and the farmers were spending a few weeks of the early spring to thin the populations lest they ruin the crops another year. Typhon had been sent away from the house for the day while his parents joined the project, likely to have him out of the way. He didn't mind, he had a vague notion of how distrusted he was, and he had his own project. Even his parents didn't know what he was working on, but now was the best time to practice. There were so many poor dead animals, he wanted to learn how to fix them. He just didn't have it right yet, his creations were crude, unpolished. Appalling more aptly. Though he could breathe life back into the bodies, he couldn't fix them, but all he needed was more practice. It just wouldn't be done in the Yalin district. On this day, he was discovered. A farmer noticed him pilfering animal corpses and followed him to a hidden nook in the fields, where he watched a little boy mold flesh like clay and make it writhe in agonized life.

 

The farmer returned to the others in the fields, speaking of the monstrous thing he had seen. Before Typhon had left his hiding place, everyone else had come to him, equipped with their bloody tools from the days work. Typhon's memories following this are hazy, but he remembers the mob being angry and being set on fire. The rest is a blur of fear and desperation, featuring Typhon fleeing into the wilds of the Stahwelt. He spent years wandering between districts, preying on whatever crossed his path, using whatever he didn't eat to hone his power. Some of his creations still roam the Steel Jungle, horrid and grotesque, but deadly just the same.

Name: Penelope

Contract:  

Burden - The star that Penelope is contracted too has no name or history attached to it.  There are no stories attached to it to give it meaning.  It's just another star whose only significance comes from the fact that it is her star.  The power that it granted her was that of Burden: the ability to take on the pain and suffering of others.  It's nothing all that incredible.  She can't make it disappear from the world or fix what is broken.  All Penelope can do is bear it in their stead.  The flip side is also true.  She can transfer her wounds and pains to others.

 

History:

The earliest memory I have was of the priest and his lessons.  His name?  He didn't tell me because I didn't ask.  It never felt important.  The priest was the priest.  What else was there to know?  He was the one that raised me when I was left behind.  Why?  I don't know.  I like to think they died because alternatives aren't worth minding.  It's an all to common story in the Kumshan and the only difference was that someone cared enough to save me.  Don't think I'm someone to be pitied because I'm not. I'm one of the lucky ones.  I had the priest.  He took me in and taught me.  Not just how to survive and get by in the world but why to live.  He showed me how to live for the right reasons. 

 

We're born for a reason and it amounts to more than we could possibly know.  He told me that often.  My contract was a gift and was given to me for a purpose.  I didn't understand what that meant.  All it ever did was bring me pain.  Was my suffering part of the divine plan?  That I should be hurt in place of others?  I resented the God that would force that upon me.  I blamed him.  I hated him like I hated the people that clung to me while asking me to heal them.  I despised them.  How could they ask that of a child.  Course it goes without saying that the person I hated the most was myself. 

 

I was weak.  Instead of trying to understand my contract and myself I tried to blame everyone else.  It wasn't their fault.  They just wanted help like everyone else.  Didn't they deserve a helping hand from time to time too?  The Priest was patient and never indulged my fits and tantrums.  It was annoying but I always lost to him.  He just waited me out until I eventually calmed down enough to listen.  I didn't want to hear the truth and it took me longer than it should of to come around.  I did though eventually.  I learned how to use my power but more importantly I learned when to use it.  I became stronger not in body but in spirit which is what has made all the difference.

 

What's the priest doing now?  I can't really say.  I think he might of died.  One gang or another finally took him out of the picture most likely.  I just know that one day I came home to find the place torn apart and him missing.  It's a common story here.  People who make too many waves have always had a habit of disappearing.  It's a sad fact but a fact none the less.  You live with it and hope that one day it won't be so.  What else can you do?  I picked up his staff and carried on as I'm sure he would of wanted. 

 

I'm a guide in Kumshan.  I offer protection to those that seek passage through the fortress as well as moral guidance for the numerous lost souls that make this district their home.  Honestly, I don't see a lot of business on that second front.  Least not voluntarily.  Those I catch partaking in sinful acts will of course be forced to reflect upon their actions at length as I lecture them. 

 

It's not very interesting is it?  I mean a lot of other things happened but none of it seems particularly important now.  There is too much happening now to focus on the past.

Oasis of Indifference - "Reality is the wall that humanity shall never overcome. Two shall never be one as long as three exists, but at some point one and three were not two. One day someone will find that one, two, and three aren't real and neither is reality itself. The idea of this idea is something that even I cannot understand, but it calls and echoes to me all throughout my body. I want to break free of the fabric that holds us in place."

 

The ability to ignore and erase everything applying to Eroe himself. It opens his mind to the universe in such a way that there isn't quite a way to explain it. Everything is almost trivial to Eroe. Flight, breathing underwater, and even ignoring fatal wounds are possible with his ability. Of course this only applies to himself. In his opinion he has no special power. It is something that everyone can do and even states that all other contracts stem from a similar idea as his.

Name: Spitzy Chevaliere

Age: 21

Gender: What you see is what you get. Don't see it? Look harder.

Occupation: Messenger, Escort, Traveling Cook, fake fortune-teller

Contract: Schwarzlicht - the black star

The Schwarzlicht is a strange star, bright enough to outshine most stars in the night sky, its radiance bright enough to fool the eye into thinking it is bigger than it really is. In reality, the Schwarzlicht is one of the smallest stars around.

This star is known for its beautiful azure effervescence which grows brighter whenever another celestial body approaches it. The phenomenon is difficult to capture, as the star's radioactive frequences interfere with modern equipment. The only way to get a good picture of it is to use a camera obscura, which happens to be a pasttime of Spitzy's.

In addition to this, anything that comes into contact with the Schwarzlicht seems to lose its brilliance; coincidentally, as the foreign object dims, the Schwarzlicht becomes even brighter. A popular theory is that the star also emits a negative radiance invisible to the naked eye, a hundred or so meters beyond its azure corona.

The energy levels of electrical devices are lowered and radio signals go haywire within a mile radius of Spitzy, should she will it. Temperature is also lowered by a few degrees when she enters a room; a decrease of up to a hundred is possible as well, though Spitzy's temperature increases in proportion to the decrease, which eventually manifests as a blue glow around her body. At very high temperatures this makes it hard to look straight at her without proper protection as the radiance is capable of damaging eyes.

This glow, similar to the Schwarzlicht's corona, also exhibits searing temperatures. Touching Spitzy when she is enveloped in this glow could prove fatal, if unprotected by heat-resistant apparel.

History:

Spitzy lived in Sarkose for the first fifteen years of her life. Her father was a respectable officer in the army, known for hunting down dissidents and putting an end to three attempted coup de etats. Her mother, on the other hand, was a valuable part of the espionage team, inventing codes and developing security failsafes resposible for keeping the nation's secrets in good hands.

Talk about pressure.

So at the age of fifteen, Spitzy was sent off to military school, along with a hundred other hopefuls. Though she did relatively well compared to most of her peers, she was never the top of her class, simply because she did not share their passion for nationalism and what have you. After three years in the Academy, she made up her mind and dropped out. Needless to say, her parents were less than thrilled to hear her decision.

She left home, taking with her a few wads of cash she managed to save up on, her father's gun, and some food, all wrapped up in a blanket. Life on the road was dangerous, but Spitzy's military background kept her safe. The path led her to Yalin, and there she stayed for a year, where she managed to find work as a farm hand for an elderly farmer. He taught her quite a few things about food– Yalin cuisine made Sarkose meals look like slop in comparison. The kindly old man treated her like a daughter and instilled in her a love for cooking, which she discovered she had a talent for.

She left during spring, determined to see the world and discover its flavors. The old man made her promise to write a recipe book dedicated to him, though he died a few days before her departure.

After living with other vagrants on her travels, Spitzy took up new interests including fortune-telling and photographing the stars. Too poor for a fancy camera, all Spitzy could make was a camera obscura, which she used on cloudless nights to capture the Schwarzlicht's radiance.

It has been said that all roads lead to Corcoran, and that is precisely where she ended up. The district was a melting pot of culture, ideas, and most importantly, cuisine. For the past three years up to the present, she scours the district for the most succulent of dishes, taking on odd jobs to fund her quest, where she is mostly tasked to act as a messenger or a messenger's bodyguard.

Weapon:

Torquis - A sturdy chain weapon made of unmeltable alloy that Spitzy managed to steal from the military base back in Sarkose. It has been altered at the end, where a detachable sickle-knife has been added to the weighed end. The Torquis is about 5.8 feet long, including the sickle and can be used for short to mid-ranged combat, as well as entangling and disarming the opponent.

Father's Gun - a revolver with three bullets left in the chamber. She has actually never used it choosing to rely on the Torquis.

Inventory:

Torquis - looks pretty cool. now all she needs is a leather jacket.

Father's Gun - never used it, never will.

Messenger Bag - used for deliveries and such. it is equipped with anti-theft features, such as slash-proof fabric and code and key activated locks. Lightweight and waterproof. When not used for errands, she keeps a canteen of ice-cold water (or coffee, if she's lucky) in it, a couple of pens, the camera obscura, and a notebook.

Tarot Cards - someone out there is always a sucker for these things.

Phone - for business contacts. it is frequently replaced, to prevent hackers from tracking her.

 

Trench Lighter - because Zippos are too damn pricey. she stole this one off the Sarkose base too.

yeah.... tried to make a reverse revserse trap, and i don't know what the hell happened.

this should be my most inconsistent character to date.
