Name: Ta-Wun

Ta-Wun is the child of one of the Emperors personal physicians. Ever since "he" reached an age where he could understand teachings he was taught medicine. Growing up he saw many kinds of injuries, many kinds of deaths. But of everything the one that fascinated him was disease. Infections were a marvel to the young boy. It was his obsession with them that brought along his eventual breaking off from his fathers profession.

Ta no longer wanted to cure disease, he merely wanted to study it. He began to catalog and differentiate between diseases, noting their effects and potential causes. If he had time - and he so seldom did - he would test different herbs and medicines to see which cure worked best. His work became so extensive that it became impossible to hide. Horrified by what they saw as a violation of ancient medical practices Ta was immediately expelled from the medica group. The only reason he kept his life was because the dead were all commoners.

Being excommunicated only allowed Ta to work with more ease. No longer constrained by the moral boundaries that kept him shackled before, his work with infections became much deeper. At least until he ran out of money. Watching people die of sickness, as it seems, was not a viable business strategy. Ta found himself needing employment, which is how he became connected to Gong Shuo.

Specialty: Oddly enough, Ta is a trained medica. This means he can do doctor things, like being a doctor. To elaborate, he is a doctor of medicine.

Appearance:

Complete confidence exudes from him, always holding his head up high with a lofty, dignified look that invokes a majestic and awe-inspiring bearing. He towers over others because of his immense height, standing above even the fair-haired foreigners that dwell in land of freezing cold. His armour are welded from black material that sucks those that stare into the dark abyss, and complementing it are his red robes underneath, its colour rich and deep as if the blood of his foes have been absorbed into the fiber of its threads. Among men, there is none other than Xin Fai.

 

History:

Hailing from a northern frontier province where the equestrian nomads constantly raid the villages that live by the border, Xin Fai lived a harsh life of rationed food and the threat of imminent danger. The generals and officials sent to the province were useless against the strength of the barbarians, failing nearly every skirmish they had with them or unable to handle the administration of the area due to poor funds and resources. Unable to stand the constant chaos that gripped the province, Xin Fai joined the local militia despite knowing it could mean throwing his life away.

 

Although he was young, being only thirteen at the time, he was not refused service on account of not having enough men of age to fight. The latest commander was a general that had never fought the nomads before and it was not long before he chose conventional tactics to fight against them. Xin Fai’s first battle was a massacre. Many of his comrades were killed in the battle, but Xin Fai refused to die. The commander had been killed by a fatal arrow earlier on in the fighting, and so Xin Fai took hold of his horse and subsequently began commanding the remaining forces. Out of sheer luck and by fluke, Xin Fai and the remnants of the army pushed back the nomads with Xin Fai personally taking the head of the enemy commander.

 

Strangely, no one came to replace the general that fell in combat. However, Xin Fai ignored it and decided to take command of the garrison himself. Even though he was significantly younger than some of the others, the valour he displayed in his first battle merited him their respect and loyalty. For the next few years, Xin Fai’s leadership drove back the equestrian nomads away from the province. His army grew after each victory and the province prospered now that the peasants need not worry about invading barbarians.

 

Eventually an official from the capital known as Cao Mei visited the province and found Xin Fai leading the command of its forces there. Xin Fai had displayed great cunning by posing as the deceased general, sending regular reports to the capital using his seal. However, instead of stripping him of command and punishing him for his deception, Cao Mei recognised the martial prowess and intelligence Xin Fai possessed and used her position to appoint him the title of Cavalry Commandant.

 

He was later invited to the capital to attend a national tournament in February 3^rd, 492 AU. It was there that Xin Fai proved his might amongst the numerous spectators by defeating the prince of Xue, Xu Ren, coming in first place. His victory over the prince sparked a friendship between the two of them, elevating him in the eyes of others.

 

However, despite his friendship to Xu Ren, Xin Fai participated in the usurpation of the Xu Dynasty because of his tie to Cao Mei. With a small force of one-hundred men, Xin Fai hunted down and exterminated several of the generals (and their families) that remained loyal to the Xu Dynasty. Because of his deeds, Xin Fai was promoted to a “General of the Household”.

 

Nevertheless, his friendship with Xu Ren made the emperor, Sun Zhao, and various other nobles and officials suspicious of him; some even believed that he deliberately allowed the prince to escape despite his thorough elimination of the numerous other vassals. Whether or not he held any sentiment towards the previous dynasty, Xin Fai remained loyal to the new one, striving to become the greatest general under the heavens.

 

Specialty:

Unparalleled Might – It matters little what weapon Xin Fai uses; he can use all of them proficiently enough. However, that isn’t what makes him dangerous. Anyone can claim to be more skilled or faster than Xin Fai. What sets him apart from all those before him are his unmatched strength and his intense durability. With a single strike he can cleave a man in two or cut a weapon in half; he laughs at the prospect of being surrounded and slashed. When he appears on the battlefield, it is best to run away. Do not pursue Xin Fai.

Relationships:

Cao Mei – His talents would have wallowed away in the frontier if Cao Mei had not discovered him and lit up a blaze inside him. She appointed him a position that allowed him to shine and he thanked her by performing valorous deeds, being promoted to General of the Household for his efforts. Xin Fai holds a great deal of debt towards Cao Mei and is willing to follow her command… for now.

 

Xu Ren – After having bested him in the tournament, Xu Ren and Xin Fai became close friends. The two found themselves with similar interest, and Xin Fai found Xu Ren’s disposition agreeable. However, regardless of their relationship, Xin Fai still participated in the Sun Dynasty’s usurpation of the Xu Dynasty, but there are rumours circulating that Xin Fai conveniently ignored Xu Ren’s escape.

 

Sun Zhao – Sun Zhao finds Xin Fai suspicious and untrustworthy. If it was not for being in Cao Mei’s favour, Xin Fai theorised that Sun Zhao would have found some way to cut away his influence. In turn, Xin Fai finds Sun Zhao to be a contemptible ruler and unworthy of his servitude. His only good quality in his eyes is Sun Zhao’s penchant for hiring capable individuals to run the country.

 

Hong Zhi Zhu – Despite their similar origins, Xin Fai does not fully trust Hong Zhi Zhu and is fully aware of his ambitions. Nevertheless, he hides his contempt for the schemer behind a façade of politeness and respect. His instincts tell him to kill the man where he stands, but his relationship with Cao Mei and standing in court prevents Xin Fai from doing so.

Name: Shen Feng

Gender: Male

 

History:

When Feng was a child he would always accompany his father while he would hunt. Being an expert hunter, his father would also pass along tips and tricks while Feng watched him at work.  At a very young age, Feng was taught by him to use a bow and arrow, and since then it became his passion. Since he had been gifted with an abnormal sense of sight, Feng picked up this skill with ease. By the time he was a teenager shooting an arrow was as natural as breathing. Once he had mastered the use of his bow and arrow, Feng learned to use a variety of ranged weapons including crossbows and throwing knives. It seemed as if the boy was shaping up to become the perfect archer.

 

Even though Feng had the all the skills needed to become a soldier and make a name for himself in the military, he decided to stay and help his father with his hunting shop. As the years passed officials from the military would continue to visit the boy’s home to try and recruit but he would always turn the invitation down. His father was growing old and needed support with his business, so leaving him was not an option.

 

When Feng had reached the age of twenty his father had grown ill. Even with all of the savings he and his father had from the business, it wasn’t enough to provide for proper medical care. This was when Feng decided that he would use his skills for coin in order to keep his father alive. For five months he was a freelancing archer that took jobs like protection and bodyguarding. However before Feng could accumulate enough wealth to treat the illness, his father passed away. Feng was deeply affected by the tragedy of his fathers death. Knowing that he was powerless had made him feel worthless. For quite some time Feng refused to use his bow and eventually he closed down the shop. It seemed as if he had given up archery.

 

This was until he fell under the wing of Cao Mei a powerful and prominent figure at the time. With the help of her support and guidance Feng was able to pick up his bow and arrow once again. But this time he was an Archer under a different set of morals and values. Now Feng sought nothing but wealth, and decided to use his skills for more dangerous and higher paying jobs given to him by Cao Mei and other figures in the underworld of Xue. The jobs ranged from tracking and protection, to assassination and espionage. With Fengs skills he became infamous as one of the best freelancers in the business.  However once Cao Mei had become a chancellor and cut ties with the underworld, Feng saw the pace of his work steadily decrease. It was obvious that since Cao Mei was a large part of the underworld her cutting ties would slow business down. Feng just had to manage until things reached their usual pace again.

 

Once the Xu Dynasty was overthrown and usurped by the Sun Dynasty it seemed business was booming. It seemed as if the underworld was feeding off the fear coming from Sun Zhao’s reign as emperor. During the first year of Sun’s reign Feng has been finding himself being employed by many people within the empire for his skills. Occasionally Sun Zhao would also hire Feng, and those were his favourite jobs simply because of the pay. As a freelancing archer Feng now works for anyone that pays well, but he prefers to take jobs from clients on the side of the Sun Dynasty.   

 

Specialty: The Quickshot Archer - His superb reflexes and hand-eye-coordination make him one of the most proficient archers in Xue. Feng is known as the “Quickshot Archer” because of the incredible speed at which he can fire off an arrow. He is also trained to throw knives, darts, and needles and track almost anyone. Feng also refuses to use any sort of gun because of his passion for archery. His impeccable precision along with his hawk-like eyesight allows him to be the perfect archer.

History: Children are a lifelong responsibility of momentary pleasure and not everyone is preapred for that. Thus, orphans come into existence. Abandoned by their parents on the footpaths, near trash, near river banks or just someplace out of public eye, many don't survive the ruthless wide world. The few who do, become street rats, where they live by their inherent abilities and guile. Lei, was one such girl, she was swift of the foot and mind. Although the fortune of being the next Ching Ching or Gong Shuo was never in her mind, she still liked the idea, idolized them even. Guided by her need to survive she became a pick-pocket, after all a girl wasn't strong enough to be a bandit, especially in an age of war, where criminals, ex-militia and stowaways roamed freely. Those who got caught were either lucky that they died quickly or unlucky to be abused in every way by beasts in face of man. The streets were unforgiving and luck and talent were both needed to survive. For ten years she roamed the streets begging earlier and later picking pockets, her natural nimbleness her savior many a times.

 

Her luck ran out soon, Wu Feng, a silk merchant was her target, she would have followed her regular routine, tail him for sometime and strike when he was busy in the market. The tight lanes enough for her to get by but not for adult men to follow. But he was no ordinary man, he was a master, known as 'Ghost Fist Wu', it was said he could manipulate lightening, not something a child would know. Unaware she struck and was caught. She had expected a fate like her ill-fated colleagues, being a girl, molestation and rape were probable and had happened to other girls before her. But Wu Feng, was a man out of her calculations. He took her in and made his intentions clear. She was to train with him and earn her freedom through the arena, a brilliant preposition given what could have happened otherwise. She accepted, till then just another nameless street urchin. For five years he trained her, training in both weapons and bare-hand fighting styles before her arena debut.

 

Unknown to many, the silk and ware business was just a front, Wu Feng was a major player in the illegal arena scene, known for his eye for talent. But what he had found was a gold mine, well figuratively. He had sensed an ability to wield lightening within the young girl. Her natural quickness coupled with his grueling training regimen made her a warrior and it was time she felt killing for real. For next five years she won every fight she entered in the arena, each time with her life on the line. The terms of Wu Feng crystal clear, either she died in the sands or she fought and eventually won her freedom. 

 

She was capable in all the weapons her style, the Purple Mist, taught by Wu himself, utilized her sharp senses and nimbleness to its max, making her fights shorter and style unpredictable. The 9-point Flail being the weapon she distinguished herself with the most. It was said that when she wielded the flail she became lightening herself, her attacks unpredictable and their strength deadly. After her last fight Wu Feng called her and presented with a robe and a name Lei Zi. He hugged her like his own daughter and reveled his observations regarding her abilities. Shocked and filled with gratitude she wanted to stay and look after Wu, but he convinced her to go and write her own destiny.

 

Specialty: Adapt and Overcome - Her naturally fast reactions and time in the arena help her develop a counter-attacking fighting style. The more longer the fight drags the greater edge she holds in a fight. her nimbleness and surety of blade are her two discerning qualities. In a fight she shows no mercy and kills anyone from a geriatric to small child.

 

Ability: Lightning

 

Relationships:

 

Wu Feng: The former arena fighter turned silk merchant who took her in and taught her techniques to wield almost all the possible weapons. He is the father figure of her life and also the one who gifted her the lustrous purple robe on her last victory. He is also known to manipulate lightning and is currently hopeful that she would carry his legacy forward by learning that. 

 

Inventory: Eatables, 11-point flail, 2 netted mesh shirts, sharpening stone and 2 daggers (attachable to sandals)

 

 

Oh man, talk about irony DR. Since the 'enemy' or leader that took my character from my parents and sold me into the arena/gladitorial trade name is Feng Wei and the NPC you introduced is Wu Feng With asian names (depending on how one puts it into their bios) the family name comes first then its the given name....maybe we can work something out that my Feng Wei/Wei Feng is Wu's son and operates the trade in the region my characters village was in or she was brought elsewhere in the trade?

Now that you've mentioned that, I'm not even sure where my character will fall under the Xu or sun side. I guess for now she'll be a neutral mercenary/body guard until something comes up in the story that makes her sway to a side.
