The story up until now feels like I'm playing NG+

Allied with demons because Kail led the demons?

...

I wonder if the dragon will morph into girl shape ...

(Milf, loli or teenage tsun ? or kuudere ?)

As a certain spider said: "Dragons are jerks".

Man, it's actually refreshing seeing a not-just-talk hero making such an unheroic propaganda scheme of himself. :P

I really like pragmatic heroes like this one and the one from Wortenia. A shame that it's so rare...

How does the author get away with such a low chapter count for a monthly series? Its not like this is Berserk. The chapters arent even chock full of art like Berserk's chapters are...chapter 43 is mostly stationery talking and speech bubbles.

It's because this manga is advertising material for the LN, so it doesn't need a lot of content.
Just the hooks and cliffhangers.

Maybe the magazine no longer sells? And by having the artist getting paid less?

This isn't Issekai(just like Game of Thrones isn't Issekai), it's just high fantasy.

Some time travel novels still go the game-like system, with ranks, levels, stats, skill-books, monster-spawns, etc. Compared to that this feels so much better. :)

Log Horizon much?

I'd say she's a kuudere.

This time traveling fusing with other selves reminds me of Bran from Game of Thrones. I don't think either one will have a happy ending, IMO (there are some who think he is the Night's King, after warging into his body and getting stuck in the past). Seriously, don't time travel unless the present is really, really fucked with nothing to lose (Terminator, Earthbound, and Future Trunks comes to mind).

I prefer the law of conservation of history from The Dresden Files.

Okay, yea, Kyle likes to bet on himself and project an air of confidence. He doesn't get much into self doubt, if he needs to do a thing, he goes and does that thing, but look at how different this fight was compared to his past fights. In every fight with a strong opponent he had a plan, because he's a smart protagonist.

When he was up against the knight, he first waited to counter attack on that super move he knew would be the opener, and, when that failed, he still had that dragon gem in an area he knew he would be hit by as a backup. When he fought against the demon, he had indestructible chains. When he's assassinating the king, he sets things up to make it look like an accident. Even with Seran, he has a plan, and that plan is, "we are not going to really fight each other".

Where is the plan here? There was none. He had no idea how to win, so he just went in swinging. This is a marked contrast to previous fights where he is constantly meticulous. He didn't have any future knowledge that could have possibly helped him. He even said he had nothing that could lead him to winning in chapter 36. Surprise attacks, drugs, bribes, blackmail, pure skill... all useless. He didn't even try to practice that super blast, which wouldn't have worked, probably, but was, at least, SOMETHING he could try. All he did was say he would win because he had to win. This is basic shounen level thinking, it belongs to a different character type.

There was nothing to indicate that he could win, and he had no backups for what would happen in case of failure. How is this not out of character?

.1. both the knight and the demon fights were death matches, this one wasn't

2. the superblast was very dangerous and could have killed seran if he didn't have a holy sword, so there was a small chance it could have killed Leila since she (probably) doesn't have one, and having the large audience see it again is probably not a good idea.

3. Kail doesn't seriously think he will beat Leila, he just feels he 'might be able to' https://vatoto.com/reader#0b2c49acecd1123b_4 because he was in a good mood after beating seran

4. Kail 'went in swinging' because 'charging at her immediately would've been the best option' https://vatoto.com/reader#7008d983b010d593_11

5. 'backs-ups' (for Kail losing) probably wouldn't be very effective because Kail can only win/lose: if he wins he can gain zirgus' trust http://vatoto.com/reader#91a0bfa0659bb95e_5, but even if he loses, he wouldn't be held responsible  https://vatoto.com/reader#1fceecc758191f4f_23.

So, anti-merla (empire) king wishes to '' destroy '' the world.

He probably said it like "If only they had never showed up again."

Oooohhh shit.
The plot, yet again, thickens.

Okay, what the heck, Kail? This is, by far, the DUMBEST thing you have done. It's so stupid that it's out of character. When you originally made that deal with assassin waifu you were not dealing with Seran's mom.

*sighs* He knew that his chances of winning were infinitesimal, he couldn't even beat the illusion version of her. All he had to do go meet up with Assassin Waifu again, which we know he did in order to get her to assassinate the church guy, and say, "this woman being there was not part of the original plan. She isn't going to go easy on me, so don't make any bets on that fight."

How freaking hard is that? He should have honestly been arguing about the unfairness of having to win the tourney as well, at this point. The woman wasn't just a ringer, she is literally the strongest known fighter in the world. All Kail needs to do is prove he can kill a demon, not a dozen, which is the number it would take for them to have any chance of winning against that giant sword wielding monster. A reasonable compromise would have been Kail fighting against the previous champion after he lost the tourney, assuming one was needed.

Kail has been shown to consistently plan things out, to be smart and reasonable. I can't help but feel that the only reason he made this mistake was a hamfisted way of giving Assassin Waifu a reason to join his group.

Really badly done.

1. https://vatoto.com/reader#91a0bfa0659bb95e_16Kail is the type to bet on himself even if the odds are against him: it can be considered a way to motivate himself to never die/lose. It's the also the reason Kail didn't tell anyone (i.e. his mom) about the previous timeline,

2. Kail was too focused on winning the tournament and dealing with the religious cult to care about some small change.

3. Complaining about hardships (of fighting someone too strong) wouldn't be very good for a hero's image, which Kail cares about: https://vatoto.com/reader#1fceecc758191f4f_24.

Really badly done.

To be fair, if not for Leila's underhanded tactic back there, maybe Kail could have won by the power of plot armor. :P

Heck, if you reread, you can tell that outside of the shadow training, Kail isn't a slightest bit worried about it. He knows his chance is infinitesimal, yet he's still confident he could won somehow. This is why Kail didn't do as you had wanted and instead said something like "I was supposedly guaranteed to win before" to the Assassin girl, also why he didn't even tried to defend his own defeat by saying something like "it's impossible in the first place" to that Galgan prince.

The sad truth is that you don't make a tsundere assassin into a waifu, because more than likely, you will find your other waifus mysteriously dying.

Log Horizon much?

My pride would never accept what the hell happened in that fight

All that aside, I would appreciate it if the manga increased its pace. We were given the premise, the backstory, the goal and the setup of our characters all within 3 chapters. We were introduced to the majority of the cast by the time Kail had reached all of his non-fame-related goals in chapter 6 or 7. We've seen new developments of the butterfly effect Kail is having with who he's rescuing and who he's killing...and yet we've been stuck in the Galgan Empire for the 1/3rd of the currently released 40 chapters.

I don't really get why so many people think this is either confusing or just stupid time travel.

Well, for now there are multiple things that are certain:

1)There are two timelines. "A" is the "future" experience Kail has, "B" is the "past" Kail was warped to. We are reading as witnesses to timeline "B."

2) Kail has effectively doubled his Mana by fusing his own soul with itself. Only one unique soul can exist, so there is NO OTHER Kail in this "past" timeline "B"; Kail has far more potential than previously. Furthermore, two Divine Dragon Heart do in fact exist now, in this story; one from "A" which Kail is in possession of, one from "B" which is somewhere else (likely in the hands of, or is the goal of, the Demon Lord).

3) Timeline "B", this "past," is changing. It's already changed significantly from timeline "A" that Kail has already experienced with the death of several of his friends, the rescue of the Zirgus princess->now Queen etc. This is NOT a looping timeline story, things are not predestined to occur, the "butterfly effect" is currently in motion.

4) The current Demon Lord ruling is NOT the same Demon Lord that rules during The Invasion set to occur in a few years. The current Demon Lord seems to be pacifistic and does not wish to cause unnecessary trouble to the humans. The demons we saw were acting only on orders to retrieve a famous Mythril sword and to not stir up drama. Currently, he seems relatively unpopular. Most importantly, the demons themselves are acting freely and independently without malice. However, during the invasion, this is not the common behavior of the demons (even the same male demon Kail has seen); the demons of timeline "A" are fanatical to the point of near insanity and are ruthless. Brainwashing or manipulation seems to occur when the new Demon Lord comes into power.

5) Currently, Kail's goal is to become a famous and powerful hero. The reason is so that he can rally the entirety of humanity together, even distrustful kingdoms, and prepare for a Demon Invasion he knows will occur in the future; practically all of the humans on the continent are dead in his time and he wishes to prevent that. There's a problem beyond slight hiccups to his plans towards success and his failures to protect those he's wanted to already, though: the demons are not the same as he remembers. They're actually sane. Even willing to suppress their pride and accept losses. They're nice...and that's NOT what Kail remembers. They're supposed to be blood-thirsty beings worthy of complete annihilation. He hasn't thought about it enough in-story, yet, but this will become a serious flaw in his designs.

Then there are little things, like

1) By rescuing the princess and killing the King of Zirgus, Kail has put into power a more intelligent and more brilliant ruler...and there's implications she is not the sweet woman she presents herself to be.

2) Speaking of regicide, during Kail's murder of the King, black feathers appear everywhere. Hallucinations or not, this is clearly a tie-in from Chapter 1: the Demon Lord Kail kills is obscured, powerful and seems to be radiating black feathers off his wings. Still more about Kail's ties to this Demon Lord, he was shown to project a pure mana explosion, not magic, from his palm in his fight against his best friend, Seran. Something that those who could discern it, including the monologue from King Zeeles, is something only a demon can do.

3) Demons follow a single ruler. Humans worship a pair of goddesses under multiple governments. "Melra" is considered the darker goddess who shows outright racism in favor of humans and is considered a cult. Having killed a high priest from Melra already trying to recruit him, it seems Seran's mother Leila is also in contact with the Melra cult and arrived at the tournament (despite more than a decade away) under orders to evaluate Kail. By addressing her contact as "grace", we are to assume it's a high-raking cultist and when she sighs about the new orders she's received as being the desires of a "troublesome god" we are to assume she herself is a part of this cult by her own volition. Likely as compensation Melra herself granted Leila, hence why she is so powerful, but a member nonetheless.

4) Speaking of Seran, we know he's adopted by Leila from sometime around her leaving the Galgan Empire. Strange how similar in appearance he is to ALL of the royal family, no? How he's practically a twin to the 3 brothers, how the sister seems overly fond of him and not just because he's strong? How Leila is on good terms with the Royal inner-council, such as the old hag court magician and her pupils Seleia and Roerl (Kail's mother and father)? The entirety of the Galgan royalty are all geniuses in their own rights, which seems similar to Seran's genius with the sword.

This plot is actually really good, the factions are believable so far, most important characters are actually non cliche evil or good. After reading some Isekais this really stands out as a nice fantasy title.

I really hope this manga adaptation goes on from a long time.

This isn't Issekai(just like Game of Thrones isn't Issekai), it's just high fantasy.
