I'm okay with characters being killed off. Things have been going relatively swell so far; can't hurt to have some black admist the white and light grey.
With their tech, they will recreate her for the next chap. The only issue would be to find a part of her body.

A genderless love interest (Which I found Amazing, personally, sincerely as well as humor wise) and a tentacle love interest.. And so long without an explanation for the space bear! I started reading because humanity-near-extinction setting, but kept reading for those other reasons.. and am loving every bit of it, can't wait for the next chapters!
I must say the anime did a better job on keeping the time-line understandable, but both anime and manga are quite good and I'm looking forward to the anime's second season as well!
I'm not sure it applies here, but I think this might be foreshadowing for future chapters. Removing the "friendly and kind Gauna face" while hugging Tanikaze and revealing "her true self". I think she's going to cut off all ties with humans and no longer hide what she really is.
I honestly feel that she feels out of place and is only trying to fit in by being have a "non-threatening form" and the only connection that she has with the human race is Tanikaze. Cut that tie and she no longer has a reason for mingling with humans.
What do you guys think?
Captain's battleplan: Send all the rivals out on a no-return mission, claim Tanikaze for 3 whole days.

Photosynthesis is photosynthesis, i.e. getting sustenance from sunlight. The sexual connotation comes from the fact that you have to get naked to do it. So saying "want to join me for some photosynthesis?" is like saying "want to come up to my place for some coffee?".
