I like to refer to this as "harem syndrome", in which the story devolves into a manga that ignores all possible plot progression and logic, and instead focuses on bullshit harem development via fanservice. Plot will move slowly and absolutely nothing significant will happen.

I miss the days when we could read actual content in these stories.

I have a mantra that I chant when I think a series is devolving: "Still better than Infinite Stratos, still better than Infinite Stratos...."

Is it my imagination or have they changed the characters' design?

I used to really love the story potential and literally each character here, but lately things left me with bland aftertaste, and I realized that the author totally going for a different route I had in mind (under the tag below). Is it just me, or anyone felt the same way? Cause if this manga totally goes down the path of shonen pattern, 'keep introducing new hassles without ever address the actual goal', I guess I had to drop this.

 When I recalled my first few chapters, I thought the premise was 'an underdog trying to get on top, finding his place, by resolving his dark past'. It felt so fun, exciting, with anticipation of the Walpurgis Night and revelation of Yaya's kickassing origin as a doll. 

 

What I see now is Raishin got tangled up in all sorts of the other characters' issue -- resolving family disputes, suddenly getting picked on by a brat, dogs whispering, basically everything author throws at him for 42 chapters but nothing that actually contribute to his development as a character or the initial story premise. Indeed his harem does grow though. The girls' personal outlook change for the better after meeting Raishin, but not Raishin himself. I still don't know his biggest drive, it doesn't even look like he was all set to be the school's best. There's no apparent progress on his supposedly spying on the military, or showing some proof of the great expectation we've made to have due to the professor's early high esteem on the second-last Raishin. I still have no damn clue what Walpurgis really is, and how does the uniquely built Yaya actually fare in battles (I also remembered Raishin was special due to his capability to fight along the doll, but now he's reduced to be either a bullet catcher or bitchyelling at the enemy. And Yaya is just another doll doing side fights). So what's Yaya for? What's Raishin for? What's the story for? Harem to propel mc to the top spot? The harem wasn't even that lively, so why raising the mc in such an uninteresting way? It's like Raishin-Yaya is no longer the main hero, they're just gofer to the other characters, who just keep on multiplying by arc and passing the baton of main character each time.

while I haven't read what happens beyond v4 of the LN, the story actually seems to get better, and thus far although Raishin keeps getting his ass handed to him, don't forget that he's often fighting while injured (he hasn't ever fully recovered from his injuries all this while since he's been fighting non-stop) and most of the time he's up against strong opponents which he also happens to be disadvantaged against (at this point yaya has nothing but strength, which isn't really counting for much, really.). Also, all of his opponents thus far are all higher ranked than him, and pretty much earned their top 100 spots. Did you think they'd be pushovers?

A lot of people always says that Raishin is weak. What's wrong with that? He is fighting an Automaton which is powerful than him and he is just a normal human (who only knows Jijutsu) not even a Magician. Now, let me enlighten you by reading my spoiler. This is a short story how Raishin became strong which can evenly fight with Magicians. Read the spoiler but do not blame me for spoiling because I already gave you a warning. Actually, I never heard someone saying Raishin is stupid. My friends who read light novel or anime all say that Raishin is an intelligent character. The manga is different from the anime and light novel not only the drawing also quite of their personality. But in the light novels and also in the anime, he is portrayed intelligent especially when it comes to battle possibly due to Akabane clan's fighting style, he is a highly skilled and observant tactician who can analyze the opponent's ability and its weakness in high speed, and it is his greatest weapon.

In volume 4, Alice greeted Raishin, Raishin on the otherhand became wary and his instincts screamed at him to be on his guard. Raishin ask who she is and Alice comment that she is dissapointed at him because they are in the same class. Apologizing to Alice as he doesn't have the luxury of getting know his classmates. Raishin backed away without letting his guard down, putting distance between him and Alice. Alice ask Raishin if she is searching for his automaton. Raishin comments that he doesn't have time to talk to her then Alice tells Raishin that she do have an idea where Yaya is which Raishin's wariness levels jump up. Raishin ask her where Yaya is. Alice said that she saw her which Raishin knows that she is lying and think she may be the one who had used Charl to assassinate the Headmaster. At that moment Raishin know that it was dangerous because he doesn't have Yaya at his side and he is badly injured, but still he played along with Alice as he want to know if she is the one that is pulling the strings behind Clock Tower incident. and telling her to lead the way. In volume 3, Raishin almost defeat Alice just one more step behind. I think you don't know how smart Alice is he even outsmarted Gloria who is the Queen of Englang who hold the Great Britain elite troops first Machinart Division commander. The victory at Trafalgar, as well as the triumph at Waterloo neither of these would have been possible if not for the existence of the pride of British Army, the Machinart Division. Did you even watch the anime? It seems the manga is different maybe they didn't not portray what Raishin has to be or your just looking for a very very intelligent character which is unrealistic? Raishin intelligence is balance unlike some character which is so exaggerated which is not realistic.

Unless a puppeteer is Magician such as the Headmaster, Astrid, Edmund. Griselda, Edgar, Kimberly, Magnus/Tenzen, ect. All I mention can fight even without aiding by an Automaton. Griselda faces the Army of Gloria and fought them without the aid of her Automatons because it was confiscated by the Nectar (Magician Association). Edmund can also fight Raishin on par without his Automatons. Räikkönen and Asura can turn their body into elementals by fusing with their Automaton such as Asura turning his own body and his Automaton into lightning. Other case such as August Veyron, his Automaton fuses with him and use his own body to fight his opponent he even overpowered Yaya's Herculean Strength. Kimberly is a powerful Magician who uses an anti-magic gun. Edgar is a very powerful Magician able to disable Irori without Hinowa detecting usage of magic. Edgar does possess very powerful time and dimension magic. Raishin tried to kill Magnus/Tenzen in the past when he learned the death of his family which make Raishin try to killed Magnus/Tenzen using a sword (he was trained under Unjaku) and Magnus/Tenzen effortless defeated Raishin without his Automatons.

Yes, he will get the Setsugetsuka sisters in "Target Gold" arc as he uses it against Räikkönen. Yaya is not a Machine-Doll its only a theory it was said in "Master's Doll" arc that she has the potential to become a Machine-Doll.

 

 

 

What's the problem with that? Drama is important unless they don't have any emotions The manga is monthly release because the light novel was first relese on November 21, 2009 and the manga first release was April 27, 2010. At that time we only have 2 volumes of light novel because the second release of light novel was March 25, 2010. So, what do you expect? If they make a weekly release the manga would eventually catch up with the light novel.

 

 

First, Raishin knows she can't assassinate the Headmaster because Raishin know how strong is the Headmaster (the most powerful magician of the 19th century) and Magnus/Tenzen is on his side. I know that's not the point. Second, if he doesn't let Henrietta show her true feeling and try to leave hey with Frey what do you think will happen she may, more violently commit suside than conforting her.

 

 

Lol! You mean Muramasa = Karyusai Shouko? Raishin already explained it to Charlotte that that was the hallmark of the Akabane clan puppeteers just controlling Yaya alone is already a heavy burden for Raishin. Therefore, in place of a puppet Raishin substitute his own body instead of another puppet (he has a very low magical energy contrast to Magnus/Tenzen who has very high magical enegy). And Raishin already explained that it was the hallmark of the Akabane clan puppeteers to control a military unit (just like Magnus/Tenzen Squadron).

For now he cannot fight an Automaton or a Magician because he is not on their league but the more the series progress he will be able to fight an Automaton or a Magician almost but he is not yet there as he was able to defeat Astrid the "Gold Rose" a very power Magician who has 2 powerful Automatons who want to cause a World War I as she want to attain the Machine-Doll.

 

 

 

 

This chapter wasn't useless at all. I think you just want action. Action alone is boring without other elements vise versa. If you try to cut some scene some people will say: "What the hell Raishin is doing? Leaving Henrietta alone with conforting her." or "What the hell is the author thinking? Removing the scene where Raishin and Henrietta talks. It is incomplete so, reading it in the light novel or watching it in the anime is more interesting than reading it in manga." THINK HOW WOULD RAISHIN KNOW THAT ALICE GAVE CHARLOTTE A GIVEN TIME TO ASSASSINATE THE HEADMASTER BEFORE DAWN? BECAUSE IF NOT HE WOULDN'T RUSH AND IT BE A GOODBYE FOR CHARLOTTE. I am not angry, I just capitalize it so you can read it clearly I am just emphasizing it. No fighting in here.

y'know, you could try being subtle about the plot armor. I mean, he's kind of beaten all to hell right now. It wouldn't be too much of a stretch to make this upcoming battle sound too tough for him. Or maybe imply that he's not going to make it in time.

I know you've been about as subtle as a sawed-off shotgun up until now, but you could at least try, you know?

plus he sorta just had his butt handed to him in the last fight so if they were trying to add hype and make it more dramatic it didn't work.

Just like 'To Aru Kagaku no Choudenjibou', 'To Aru Kagaku no Railgun' and 'A Certain Scientific Railgun' are all official names for the Railgun series.

Unbreakable Machine Doll just happens to be the official English name the author/publishing company decided on for Kikou Shoujo wa Kizutsukanai.
