It definitely feels a little rough still, but your style is interesting, and it's a nice fun read, thanks a lot!
Good luck with the next chapter.
Of course, there is a lot of backstory between the two, especially on Tomoko's part. This is really mainly preparatory to the rest of the manga. Bits of it gets revealed little by little. I'm guessing your referring mainly to the first 2-4 pages? That was just setting up the fact that they have been friends since an early age. How and why will come along in bits later. but it is a valid question, and I thank you for it,
it's there a reason why the two are such good friends? will this be told via flashback some point later on? it seems like the pacing is off and cuts off much anticipated character development
Thank you very much for the feedback. I had a lot of the same ideas you stated. I was using some weird dig. art program back when I first edited it, and I couldn't tell you the name of it to save my life.. I currently use GIMP for all my editing needs, that and I use manga studio for the bubbles.
About the fonts, I am planning to use different fonts in the future, and may go back and "remaster" this chapter (redo the line art, I have the un-toned, un-bubbled pages, so that may be something I go back and do, but for now I am looking forward) Back to the fonts, I am planning on it, in fact I was thinking of hand drawing all the SFX to add in during the edit, so that probably will happen for chapter 2.
The main reason I didn't change the font (I did twist and warp the SFX for effect though,) was that I really wanted to get this out as soon as possible. I had procrastinated on this project for over a year before deciding to hunker down and get it done, and I didn't want to slip back into putting it on the back burner.
But I take into consideration your very insightful suggestions, I promise chapter 2 will be better in the art, fonts and story!
Congrats on your first release!
It's a shame about the resizing problem, some of the pages look really rough! What program are you using?
BTW, I think you should look into fonts other than the one you're using (I think it's comic sans)
It's also good practice to use a different font for shouting bubbles, inner thoughts, sfx, etc so they're easier to differentiate at a glance. It also just looks nicer!
This series isn't very good (https://vatoto.com/comic/_/comics/horimiya-r6770) but you can use the recent chapters as font inspiration.

I can also PM you an existing font guide as an example if you'd like
Either way, good luck!
