Description: | Piano prodigy Arima Kosei dominated the competition and all child musicians knew his name. But after his mother, who was also his instructor, passed away, he had a mental breakdown while performing at a recital that resulted in him no longer being able to hear the sound of his piano even though his hearing was perfectly fine. Even two years later, Kosei hasn’t touched the piano and views the world in monotone, and without any flair or color. He was content at living out his life with his good friends Tsubaki and Watari until, one day, a girl changed everything. Miyazono Kaori is a pretty, free spirited violinist whose playing style reflects her personality. Kaori helps Kosei return to the music world and show that it should be free and mold breaking unlike the structured and rigid style Kosei was used to. Nominated for the 2012 Manga Taisho Award. Winner of the Kodansha Manga Award (2013). |

I have never felt so sad over a fictional character's death. It actually really hurts
dont quote it then
Lol what an edgy kid. Mad cuz bad.
empty melodrama, emotionally-manipulative claptrap
0/5
^Whiny rant, not recommended reading. 0/10 would not do again.
I cried
OVA is out. Go and check out that small masterpiece.
Yes I Actually have read it. Perhaps it's because I've read and watched lots of these amazing romance stories with a tragic end, especially animes, where the scene and music really affect you, I simply felt that scene-wise, it kinda fails to deliver the emotion bomb (for me). I did get a bit teary eyed, but I was expecting more. I actually got more emotional on his mom's flashbacks, kinda had more impact. However I guess the author wanted us to appreciate Kaori's last moment and think at it as a happy farewell rather than a sad one
Just as soon as we try to forget the sadness, April's gonna roll around again. Oh look, only a week away.
Pretty much how i handled the situation
Actually, if you read the novel "A walk to remember" you'll appreciate this more. In a sense, the last chapters (or last episode) ended on a rather low note than the previous scenes and that was so the viewers can actually "let go." I appreciate the fact that the author made us collect our thoughts rather than leave us with a huge gaping hole in our hearts
I saw a sort of petition to get the ending changed but it had absolutely no chance of happening. The manga ended not that long before the anime so I have to imagine it was nearing completion at around the same time so I doubt they'd go back and redo the entire last episode or two.
For those that want to know: anime ends the same way except aslightly shorter due to lack of time.
It's completed... Thanks, Easy Going Scans. You guys (and if you aren't all male [doubtful], just take the "guys" label as epicene!) rock; your scanning and translation are fantastic, and your choice of manga to bring to the non-Japanese literate fans is great. Also, thanks to Arakawa Naoshi Sensei for one of the best manga I've come across (Omnipotentcheese said it first). It was a tragic story, but didn't wallow in angst, and the final message was Redemption, with a capitol R. No wasted arcs, no superfluous drama for drama's sake; just a story beautifully crafted by a master craftsman. I loved it, and followed it almost religiously.
just one scene is not appear, when kousei got applause at competition
and still the end, can i say it happy ending? (T▽T)
kaori-chan u will always live in my heart
The background music durng this scene too touching..... *cries
>Just marathoned this series after knowing its ended
heard like the anime ending gonna be different, i hope so
That was a ride! Glad I read it. Wish I had started sooner when it was recommended to me.
