It accepts cookies. And I'm definitely not using it in incognito / private mode. I'll try to clear my cache and observe. But I tried it in different browsers like safari and internet explorer. Problem still persists so I thought it might be a problem on the server side.

Well, nothing worked. I tried clearing cache and cookies. I tried resetting chrome. I tried putting batoto in the exemption list.

The speed issue is always on our radar, it's not always easy to do something about it without spending a lot more money.

I'm not really sure what you consider to be slow but Batoto itself is pretty fast for me. And you aren't in Asia either, so you might want to do a traceroute and send that to Grumpy or censor the sensitive data and post it here. (Not sure what os you are on but on Windows it's tracert www.bato.to in the cmd console.)

And additionally you might want to try the new beta reader by going to http://vatoto.com/betaopt in and start reading. It preloads pages so that should help a lot with reading speed. Since there are no banner ads but very infrequent pop ups (which are being tested right now) we can actually properly preload now.

Grumpy just added a new image server. More details here.

The new server does not have all files yet so ff you run into problems with the images not (yet) displaying simply change your image server. How that is done is described here.

For some as of yet undetermined reason image server 1 seems to have gone on strike. We'll have to wait for Grumpy to wake up and fix it.

Temporary fix: Change your image server. -> click on the little wheel next to the group name and select something other than "Image Server 1".

It has been suggested before at least in a similar fashion. I haven't commented there but I will do so here.

Your suggestion is a moot point. Something being what you call 'licensed' has absolutely no bearing on whether it is allowed on Batoto or not. Everything is licensed because somebody always has the rights to it. It does not matter who the copyright holder is and where they are located in the world.

The second point is not feasible either. Accurate information about scanlation status is simply not something that is obtainable and keeping up to date. It will lead to lots of false information and bad blood between groups that start to scanlate because some person who just wanted their fix faster set the tag on Batoto.

The [no chapter] tag accomplishes everything it should (help as search filter) and it is not prone to being set wrongly. Additional information is what the description is for.
