I'm surprised how many people request Brazilian Portuguese despite it being denied early on...

I'm surprised how much Brazilian Portuguese is requested and still is denied. Adding it already would just spare more people from asking (because it won't stop otherwise). Our motto is "I'm brazilian and I never give up". rofl

Anyway, Grumpy is reconsidering adding Brazilian Portuguese. Lets all send him good vibes.

Bacon. It's one of the most overrated things ever and I just can't help but think it's horrible. When people go all "WOW U DUN LIEK BANCON" I don't think they know how much it annoys me...

#1215243 Draft for Comments Section Guidelines - Post your Feedback!

Posted by lihmao on 20 April 2014 - 11:22 PM

Let's make things clear.

Comments Section objective:
- It no longer needs to be solely review-like comments, but we can also just comment about the last chapter?
Yes: It's good as long we don't spoil it/use spoiler tags.
No: If so, the objetive of this rules is to move us to the forums... What would just ruin all the dinamic and interactiveness the Comments Section provide.

Is it right?

About the spoilers:

I can understand it. I comment about the last chapters, but I always (or most of the time) post spoilerish things inside the spoiler tag. However, the last time I did it (on 1/2 Prince comments section) no one answered my question in the spoiler tag, but, instead, the side note I made outside gained much more attention. I'm not sure if it's because it was polemic or the fact that the spoiler tag hinders discussions/attention. Besides, in the said event, Seraphic Mist position was that:

Spoiler

I put up with her decision, but why shouldn't it belong in the Comments Section?
a) It began with a brief note, like some people here love to give such emphasis to.
b ) Not counting quotes, all the comments were below 10 lines.
c) It was something related to the said manhua. All the discussion were already on the Comments Section, if we were to move it to the forum, the discussion would die out instantly. Even if it didn't, create another topic just for that? It's not something complex enought to that. Use the "Last Chapter Discussion"? The last time it was used was last year, until SM said to move on to the forums and the only one to do it was αρняσɖιтє.
d) It was not spoilerish.
e) It wasn't a flame war.
Positions such as that are making the Comments Section too stiff. I'm afraid these revised rules would just worsen the problem.

If it's made official we can freely comment the last chapters in the comment section without using the spoiler tag, I don't know if it would happen (my question about the last chapters being ignored). As others have suggested, I agree that would have to have a warning above the Commenst Section saying it could contain spoilers.
Raws spoilers shoud NOT be allowed, though. We can discuss the last chapters AVAIBLE on the site, not on the original. Just yesterday I had to read someone crush my hopes saying determined fact would not happen, since they read the raws. -.- It annoyed the crap out of me. The same way, one can't comment in English without using spoiler tags if chapters were released in another language (for instance, I read in Spanish if they are ahead of the English version, but since I don't have enough confidence to write in Spanish, I comment in English, but without spoiling it).
tl;dr: I agree with "spoiler tag free" comments if it's made as a official rule and with warning. No raw spoiler or english spoilers about chapters release in another language without the spoiler tag.

I have nothing against GIFs and Images.. you'll find I like a lot of funny ones, and have saved several. I spend hours at a stretch on Motifake, Imgur, lolcat, Facebook.. just for those funny Images. But the Comments Section was, you must admit, turning into Picture-Spam. People spammed all sorts of crazy GIFs just for likes and laughs, instead of using the Comments section like they should: For Comments.

Instead of banning them entirely - there was enough cause to, mind you - we just ask that they be placed in Spoilers.

Why can't an image/gif be considered a comment? Haven't you heard of the saying "one image can say a thousand words" (something like that)? Instead of saying "I'm soooo happy with this chapter" or "I cried river with it. It made my heart ache a lot", one can simply put a small image or gif that translates their feelings more that words could do. Putting them inside the spoiler tag would just make them go unnoticed.

I'm sorry if I sound aggressive, but the point of the Comments Section is for Comments. Not discussions or speeches. All we ask is the ones above 10-12 lines to be placed in Spoiler Tags and you can have a 100,000 line discussion, you will be still following the Rules - provided it's in a Spoiler Tag. Or, you can move the discussion to a/the relevant forum... and eliminate the need of the Spoiler Tag.

Why limit so much the Comment Section? It kills so much potential. For example, this comment made by PLG (may contain spoilers?):

Spoiler

It's one of the comments I most liked. It gives a more profound analysis about a polemic character. If the latter half were to be under the spoiler tag, it would break the sense of continuity and hinder the interest in reading, or maybe even scare some people. Ran to Haiiro no Sekai is full of loooong comments and discussions (most of them related to Outarou) and never once I was bothered by it (only the senseless hate annoyed me). There is already a topic in the forums only to discuss it (Outarou, Ran and their relationship), and the poster had reason to create it (which can easily be noted by the absurd lenght of the post) and people interested in making long and complete posts went there. Did it make the discussion on the Comments Section to chill? Not at all, since they are different things and have different focus. And even in the topic made to discuss specifically their relationship there were people crying about spoilers. So, there will always exist people complaining.

The button for Spoiler Tag: No idea how to add it, and indeed, if it can even be added. But if someone's typing a 10+ lines comment, how hard can it be to type a few extra letters for the Spoiler Tags?

Those rules seems to want us to put spoiler tags in every little thing. It's not a question about being hard and whatnot, but user friendly. If you really want us users to give it a "fair chance", the minimum Batoto could do was to minimize the effects to faciliate the transition, such as a simple "spoiler button". The site should give us the tools to use it to it fullest potential, not make us go out of our way so we can abide to it.

Other fact no one mentioned (I think): what about the people who only comment to say thanks to the scanlator team? In some mangas, the Comments Section is made essentialy by that. Not reviews, not comments about the last chapter, nothing. Such comments don't contribute in anything. It doesn't make difference if they are there or not, sometimes it seems the person just want to have some likes of people who (also) are grateful... I want to make it crystal clear that I'm very much thankful to the groups, but why not thank them in their site (and help them with visits and feedback), instead of flooding the Comments Section with it? Isn't it also out of the rules and objetive of the Comments Section?

3) For Images of any size, or Text approximately larger than five lines, use Spoiler Tags.

I'm against it too, in its entirety. I don't see a problem with small images, like gifs. Actually, I like them quite a bit, since it enriches the text. About the second part, it's really strict and nonfriendly. Even if the comments section is made to do "brief" commentaries, one who wants to express theirself more crearly can easily surpass it. Or maybe answering comments made made by someone else. Ex.:

Person 1: Ew, I didn't like it, the characters are flat and so is the plotline.

Person 2: I agree. The art doesn't convey the feelings well either.

Person 3: No, that's not what happens... The context of the story is the period after the downfall of the Great Roman Empire. People there had different mentalities. For example, character x is really well constructed because of his family background plus his experiencies with barbaric people... (continues)

I don't know, that's an example. Its spoiler is minimium and probably it would have more than 5 lines. If person 3 didn't answer person 1 (or maybe 2) in the comments, one could easily pass a great manga just because some people couldn't appreciate it and there wasn't no one to say otherwise. Giving more than one said it wasn't good, one would have to have good arguments to convince someone else. And having the person didn't read the title, seeing a spoiler tag, one wouldn't open it willing.

Besides, having to put spoiler in everything in the Comments Section is a hassle mainly because there is no "Spoiler button" easily identified. Only now (literally) I discored how to do it without doing it manually.

#1197726 Search - Ignoring blank spaces and searching for parts out the order of the t...

Posted by lihmao on 10 April 2014 - 02:03 AM

Before starting reading anything, I usually search for titles and such on MangaUpdates. Not only because of lazyness, but also to avoid mistakes, I copy the title and paste on the search of Batoto. However, sometimes I copy blank spaces before or/and after the title, for example: "Heroine Shikkaku " or " Heroine Shikkaku", or even when I mistype and wrongly use double space ("Heroine  Shikkaku"). Just because of this tiny detail, nothing appears on the search. This has happened numerous time and I would like to suggest to just ignore those blank spaces.

The second suggestion is something that theorically is implemented, that is to search a title that contains the group of words/letters. Unfortunately, that's not what happens. For example, I want to search "Kanojo wa Uso wo Aishisugiteru". I forgot the fullname so I just type "Kanojo Aishiguteru" or "Kanojo Uso wo". It doesn't show anything on the search. The only way so the search functions well is if the group of words follows the original sequence of the title in question. We all know human memory doesn't work that way, so the search function should adjust to that.

I'm sorry if it was already suggested, it must have escaped me.

Thank you so much for considering it! I'm really, really happy. I'm sending positive vibes so the final answer is yes! hahaha (actually serious)
