My original suggestion was going to be about just adding a "Hiatus" to the "Status" for comics, but that was before I remembered that that's for scanlation status of the manga, not publication. So, my suggestion here is basically to add in a "Publication Status" and change the "Status" now to "Scanlation Status". There's not really any reason to add anything else to the current status, but I feel the publication status should be added because without it, it completely misleads people on a manga's current status.
Let's face it; not every reader knows exactly what the status' category is specifically for (I tend to forget too), and more than enough don't check a scanlator's website, MangaUpdates, or any other website that you'd be able to find news on regarding series. As an example, during Iris Zero's hiatus, the scanlation of the manga was caught up on, but because the status of the manga was still listed as "Ongoing" during that period, it led to multiple people asking when the next chapter would be released by the scanlator. On the other hand though, if it was listed as "Complete" people would have come to believe the manga was over, as is the case with Kandachime recently, where the last chapter before its hiatus began was released, and between the manga's status being changed to complete and the last chapter's title having "[End (Hiatus)]" in it, people have come to believe the manga itself is over, when it is currently not.
This would also come in handy for manga that have ended their publication, but are still ongoing scanlation-wise.
This was sort of suggested before here, but it wasn't really elaborated on and only got a single response from Loki with nothing else after.
tl;dr;
We need a separate status for publication because it's apparently too confusing for readers.
