#635022 A dislike option for comments section

Posted by Viscoun on 20 April 2013 - 06:09 PM

I'm amazed at the cynicism everyone has here. The main argument against this feature is people believe it's going to get widely misused. I'm fully aware that this is the internet, and it would likely get misused to an extent as there are people that are nothing but trolls, but I've never once seen or been apart of a site where it was abused so massively like people here seem to believe it would be.

gotta hold all options open, you know. the antagonism of the posters here (people who care enough to argue about something like this) should be proof enough that there's gonna be tons of hate piling up everywhere once a dislike button is set in place. those who don't care won't use it, and those who do care are going to misuse it. that's pretty much what's gonna happen.

and plus, there is a community here. it's the same reason why facebook doesn't have a dislike button. there's a community, and there are people in that community who take many things way too seriously. it's just something that's commonplace throughout the internet.

and to be honest, who likes getting dislikes, anyway? a masochist?

but you're right, we're all pessimists here. we like to grouch, and complain, and put things in the wrong perspective. that kind of attitude isn't going to improve if a dislike button is ever put in place.

Don't bring me up as part of the argument. I don't visit the comment sections save for 3-4 titles.

She meant in general, not the comment section.

My indifference would be unfazed.

Geez, you should really stop projecting your own way of thinking onto others. I mean, how self-centered can you be!?

I already know the majority of people will feel uncomfortable with a dislike feature.

"Uncomfortable"? Dude, it's a potential "instant rage button".

I think that I should elaborate on my earlier post.

Yes, there are websites that allow for downvotes or dislikes but these are usually websites with hundreds of thousands of unique visitors daily and with those sort of numbers, you're bound to get an ignorant userbase. The likes or dislikes just serve to filter out the lower quality material that's being uploaded without control and even then, people will still dislike something simply because they can. We have a 5 star rating system for comics and users and I honestly think that's enough. To add it to the comments section would simply be asking for unnecessary conflict.

The only time I'd find something like this useful is if someone is being rude but even then, if the comment is severely defamatory you can report it and the user gets a warning. That would improve their behavior rather than inciting them to "add" to this image by being a perpetual ass.

My indifference would be unfazed. I already know the majority of people will feel uncomfortable with a dislike feature.

In your case, if you feel no need to better yourself or change your views after having a flood of nameless people disagree with you, then the only thing the only thing the "dislike" function would be doing is stacking up an uneeded number. Honestly, if you don't like a comment someone made, ignore it or reply to it. If people agree with you, they'll like your comment instead. You can see that as a "dislike" for the other commenter. If you get none then the issue was personal and no one else really cares.

Dislikes are basically a way to promote slander.

The rest of this message is for everyone. I'm not just targeting you, 101010.

I personally believe this has nothing to do with being "fair" or "unfair". Do you not like the like system? Don't use it. Don't pay attention to it. It's not hurting you or anyone else.  A dislike system? It will have an impact, regardless of the amount, on everyone and even if you choose to ignore it, it's still there as a looming air of animosity towards you. No one has taken away a right or given a right. There aren't a set of laws that govern every website on the internet stating a need for a like/dislike system. The administration allows it. It's a priviledge, not a right. Unfair is being denied the use of something that everyone else is allowed to use with no explanation. Fairness is about equality and, as far as I know, the only users who have any sort of priviledge or advantage that everyone else doesn't are the administrators, moderators and contributors--but there's obviously a reason for that.

.Why are you assuming that adding the feature will somehow force people to be rude?

Because that's exactly what it does. What is the purpose of a dislike if not to (impersonally) show  dislike? It's rude by nature.

No, theoretically it should be offensive behaviour of people should be even less than what is present now, as the button will "absorb" part of the hatred.Your reasoning is flawed. Just like the majority of other members who posted in this thread, you are looking at this suggestion from your own (biased) point of view. Not only that, but you assume that some sequence of events that happened somewhere else in the past will happen here as well. None of this is absolutely true, which is what undermines your argument. Someone has clearly robbed OP, me and the other proponents of our right to voice dislike through the use of a button. I personally wouldn't say it's a grave deprivation, but it's certainly wrong to dismiss the lack of freedom of choice.

"Theoretically" is a fancy way to say something "should work". There's already proof it didn't work so this isn't about "theory" anymore but something that has been put in practice. My reasoning is biased because I have experience with the subject matter so if that bothers you, I will ultimately apologize but ask that you take your aggressivity down a notch. It's unbecoming. And by stating I assume a sequence of events that occured in the past will happen here as well you're assuming that it will not. History repeats itself for a reason. No one learns from it so my "assumption" is a reasonable assumption.

And your argument is flawed as well. You've been deprived of your choice to voice dislike through the use of a button? Are you aware of how silly that sounds? You want to voice something? Say it. You're voicing your dislike now, quite vehemently, and no one is denying you that.

#301900 A problem in the "cout" command of C++

Posted by pizhhh on 12 August 2012 - 12:38 PM

What seems to be the problem?

I removed #include "StdAfx.h"
and added cin.ignore(); and cin.get(); before return 0; and got it to compile and run just fine.
Are those important? (sorry, I'm still just a beginner in C++ myself.)

Try this one:

#include "stdafx.h"
#include "iostream"
using namespace std;

class human
{ //Κλάση. Το βασιΚόΤερο παράδειγμα ΚληρονομιΚόΤηΤας. Μία Κλάση έχει Κάποια χαραΚΤηρισΤιΚά. ο άνθρωπος π.χ. έχει...
	public:
	int Intelligence; //ευφυΐα...
	int Strength; //δύναμη...
	int Agility; //Και ΤαχύΤηΤα.
	int Score;

	int range(); //αυΤοδυναμία...
};

int human::range()
{
	return Agility * Strength;
}

int main(array<System::String ^> ^args)
{

	human Warrior; //αυΤό, ΚυριάΚο, είναι ένα ανΤιΚείμενο. Έχει Τις ιδιόΤηΤες μίας Κλάσης που θέσαμε.
	human Thief;
	human Wizard;

	int range1, range2, range3;

	//Τώρα θα δώσουμε Τιμές σΤα ανΤιΚείμενα.
	Warrior.Intelligence = 14;
	Warrior.Strength = 132;
	Warrior.Agility = 45;
	Warrior.Score = (Warrior.Strength / Warrior.Agility / Warrior.Intelligence);

	Thief.Intelligence = 43;
	Thief.Strength= 10;
	Thief.Agility= 102;
	Thief.Score= (Thief.Agility / Thief.Intelligence / Thief.Strength);

	Wizard.Intelligence = 121;
	Wizard.Strength = 4;
	Wizard.Agility = 30;
	Wizard.Score = (Wizard.Intelligence / Wizard.Agility / Wizard.Strength);

	range1 = Warrior.range();
	range2 = Thief.range();
	range3 = Wizard.range();

	cout << "Warrior has" << Warrior.Intelligence << "Int, " << Warrior.Strength << "Str, " << Warrior.Agility << " Agt, with a total score of" << Warrior.Score << ". His Level is" << range1 << "\n" ;
	cout << "Thief has" << Thief.Intelligence << "Int, " << Thief.Strength << "Str, " << Thief.Agility << "Agt, with a total score of" << Thief.Score << "His Level is" << range2 << "\n" ;

When I clicked this thread, I expected amusing scenes from ToG.

Instead, I get this.
