Its a very visualistic and informative video on the ins and out of Eva's backstory, making things less confusing for viewers that skim through the background talk and went straight for the intensive psychological drama. However its in japanese XD Those who understand japanese would probably find a better kick in this video but enjoy!

anyway, what's your oppinion about new NGE movies?

I kinda don't like the fact, that it still didn't "fix" the thing that fans hated the most (that stupid erase of humanity). Well, now they "explained" it and few characters survived, but still it sucks :-/

What I don't like about the movies is that it's not even near as good as the original + EoE.

And what do people have against Instrumentality? NGE + EoE is a masterpiece without rival.

I saw 25 chapters of the series (saw the 26, but not the 25, because one day I thought I was seeing the chapter 15, and when it ended... I saw it) and EoE. Started the Death and Rebuild but I saw it was a summary of the series, and quit.

The original series is a masterpiece... but I have to admit, EoE wasn't exactly what I was expecting for. Even with its mindfucks, there was still a story, but when they melded the story with the mindfucks... I didn't like it. Maybe, in some years, I'll see it again and I'll like it.

The older you get the more Evangelion grows on you as strange as that sounds, just like fine wine~

Evangelion Rebuild most of it is as misato had said "Servicesu Servicesu~ <3", just watching it for those awesome angels is worth it XD
But it does contain a full story of its own. Eva 1.0 You are (not) alone may be seen has nothing more than compress the first few episodes into one movie and with renewed animation (GOD RAMIEL WAS SO FUCKIN BADASS). Some Eva fans can tell the minor differences but its importance will only be revealed until the EVA 2.0 and  3.0.

EVA 2.0 is where the movie diverges drastically (introduce new characters, new angels designs, etc.) from the tv series especially near the end. EVA 3.0 has completely gone off course from the original and taken a shape of its own.

 

So if you enjoy Eva for theiir mecha, angels, story plot, plot twisting tragedy and character interactions. There is reallly nothing to complain about the rebuilt movie. HOWEVER, if you do enjoy eva series for the darker hidden themes, inner psche and its resonances with the human soul as Will of NGE had stated, then the rebuild pales in comparesion. Maybe because it is a movie they don't get the theme across as well as the tv series would. The whole EoE only worked as a movie because of the TV series build up. EoE really tied everything together. I'm really hoping for another one of them in EVA 4.0 but I doubt that wll happen.

 

What you WILL get for the rebuild is a full circle. Its one of those stories where it within itself completes the circle. I think it will be satisfying for the plot and a good tribute to the original series. I will definitely shed more light to the back story that people overlook most of the time due to the intensity of emotions that the original series focused on.

well, except EVA 1.0 (You Are Not Alone) they are different enough.
 
But to be honest those rmk movies are much worse than original series.
The things everybody liked about original NGE are not there:

Spoiler

- pretty much no emotions (making Shinji cry here and there for some really stupid reason cannot be considered as emotions)
- no Asuka (well, she is there but only as small side character... although she might come back in EVA 4.0 ),
- almost no Rei (she is there, but not enough and in EVA 3.0 she is gone).
- Instead of Asuka and Rei you get some psycho b*tch, who is in love with her EVA, lol. That kind of character is not enough to replace Asuka or Rei.
- and worst of all: although they reworked pretty much everything, that stupid Instrumentality project stayed there.

After I have finished watching EVA 3.0 I decided I will just ignore EVA 4.0 , I am not going to watch another attempt to ruin good series.

I finally took the time to read those bullet points from the Fridge section.....

There's a lot you won't be able to get out of your head once you read all the entries in Fridge and Nightmare Fuel.

I quite like the Fridge entries more than Nightmare Fuel since they had more explaination rather than just pointing out horror moments. Some points never really crossed my mind until mentioned. For example, the other one that mentioned about Asuka referring Rei as a Doll... and the deep meaning behind that. It really sheds a whole new dimension to what she refers to. There were quite interesting facts about what some of the individual angel symbolizes as well. Yui floating through space for all time and that connection with fly me to the moon..... Kaworu's love explaination....Damn Anno that brilliant bastard, if it was all intentional than I really need to start worshiping you. I really felt like watching NGE all over again just to question my existence all over again.

 

On the other hand some points was just low blow. For example the one with Asuka being saved from mind rape by the spear of longinus in one episode but in the end is also stabbed by the same weapon..... that was just low. There was apparently one point that talked about a world without Shinji and it was in the deleted scenes of one of the eva movies that I had no idea about till now. The random clips showing an actual eye (soul's door) is not that random anymore.  Asuka being Touji's girlfriend.... I can't really imagine it.

NGE shines once you start asking questions, looking for details and start connecting dots. I often say this about NGE, but the real show is behind the curtains. Once you can see beyond that, you'll see the real brilliance and depth to the series.

One site I really recommend for commentary on several episodes of NGE is the NGE Fan-Geeks Commentary Project. Some are also at the EvaGeeks's site but only up to episode 6.

Each episode is analyzed in a storyboard style, and this almost-frame-by-frame commentary lets you notice new things and gain further insight into the show. Additionally, the former page has other goodies in the supplemental section (especially images). Check out a few chapters, at least, and you'll come out with a greater understanding of the series.

 

I'll be honest, though, sometimes it feels that the discussions around Evangelion are just elaborate ways to come up with a excuse for an animator's oversight.

 

As for personal stuff, Evangelion is one of my top shows. End of Evangelion is really damn awesome. My favorite character is Asuka, and her fight in that movie is probably the best fight I have ever seen in animation. I liked the first two Rebuild movies, but sadly the second movie's build-up was completely destroyed by the third one. Meh.

The director Hideki Anno is really brilliant in my books. It may seem like oversight to some people but its only because they are only aware of conscious decision making. Anno-san may not have conscious understood and planned all the details to the extent that we have deciphered but its more of a unconscious portrayal of message that he wanted to convey. The direction he took was like giving birth to something uncorporal but it exist in the mind.  He was able to convey those unconscious thougths in such a way  that it somehow connected with our mind in some way and we convey this message in our own language. To resonate with people to such depths and create such intricate connection patterns is one of the beauties of evangelion.

I've seen a lot of amazing Gundam cosplay out there back in the day but this is just godly impressive. To think that I would actually see the day of an actual EVA-01 cosplay and not the pilots. We just need the angels and we are set for third/fourth impact.
