Love vocaloids?
Mine is without a doubt Len and Rin Kagamine.
What's your favourite vocaloid songs?
Are there any other artificial singers out there that are as good?

Heh~~ It's Vocaloid sama!
@Leo
Uncle Leo, Vocaloids are programs of recorded voices and linguistic syntex mainly in Japanese and a few in English.
Basically you can type words, add the music notes and music score in and the program will sing for you.
For example, Gakupo was voiced by Gackt sama.

On the side note, this isn't artificial but the language is and its awesome!

For example we can throw in this song.(I think its most known one anyway):
From a live concert 2 years ago.
Like Hellion explained, they are basicly a software where you put in the lyrics and background music (and ofc edit them). While it is synthisized voice, it is from a bank of real voices, provided by various voice actors/singers. What is great about vocaloids is that anyone can become an composer and express himself. That brings you huge variety of songs, styles and genres.
Being artificial, people often think its unable to "sing with emotion", but that is not true. Infact, sometimes the voice is the reason that brings up all the emotions in you.
Also, vocaloid commuinty on Nico Nico Douga (like Japanese Youtube) consists of other stuff too, not just songs. To make it easier to understand and explain, just watch this video:
Video explanation:
Someone makes a vocaloid (in this case Miku) song and uploads it. Then various other people record music, draw video art, make videos, make MMD(MikuMuikuDance) dances, make covers of the song, create a dance coreography and dance videos. See the beauty of it?
(Also, Miku might be singing on the opening of Olympic Games 2012 in London. Lets hope she gets picked!!)
Anyway, i'll end this long post here. I hope it was easy to understand.

i am really glad to learn about it. But i saw some singer who cried from his/her feelings. This can make a sense for live singing
But Vocaloids are a different taste of music i think. So we cannot compare them
I'll look forward to new vocaloid updates in here and i'll follow it. In time I think i can learn about them more

@Uncle Leo
We've cried listening to Vocaloid! They really give emotions!
After this video is Proof of Life, which is the second part of the song by his sister.

Random Fact,
Megumi Nakajima, who provides the voice for Gumi, also voiced Ranka Lee from Macross frontier and Ranka is said to have influenced Gumi's image

REALLY!? That's, that's- *nerdgasm*
*clears throat* anyways, my favorite vocaloid is Yuzuki Yukari, though it hard to say favorites since they are all so fantastic. If I had to restrict my favorites to Crypton's releases, I'd go with either Rin or Luka, depending on my mood. My favorite composer would be yuyoyuppe hands down, but there are many other great composers out there, such as Ryo, Deco*27, wowaka, etc.
My favorite songs would include Rolling Girl (wowaka), Hatsune Miku no Shoushitsu (Bousou-P), When the First Love Ends (Ryo/Supercell), Leia (Yuyoyuppe), Hope (same), Palette (same), Torinoko City (40meter-P)... (the list goes on and on)
*tries to regain composure* Moving on, I don't own any vocaloids, nor do I think anyone other than Yamaha (Vocaloid) has a working artificial singing program.
Has anyone else considered exactly how much more difficult it is to make an artificial voice program that speaks English instead of Japanese? For singing the difference is smaller, but speaking is actually much harder to simulate because of the many slight changes of pitch, tone, stress, enunciation, etc. The Japanese language has much less changes, though. Food for thought.

There were some that has been fanmade. Can't remember what they are called.
They released notes on their English vocaloid development and as far as I am aware of, syntax and language flow is difficult for English, which is a remixed language type rather than characterised. It's harder because the words mix and match syllables and pronunciations whereas in Asian character languages, all you have to care about is tone and pronunciation for each word. Easier to computerize.

UTAU's? Those seemed to have slipped my mind, but I believe they are still made using the Vocaloid software, so are still considered Vocaloids.

They are still but they recorded other voices or? I'm only familiar with Len's UTAU.
