Boy kitty (Oscar) died while we were at the farm last week. Drove an hour to get him to an emergency vet. Got treated. Died anyway.

The kittens joined me for a nap. Nice part was they noticed when I woke up and both demanded lots of love and pets. Good way to start the next part of your day.

So... Did you enjoy that menage a trois with those two UNDERAGED nekololis?
And did your wife secretly videotape it to blackmail you with the evidence later on?

Backyard forest is a little taller and a bit thinner. Lost some trees after the next door neighbor decided he wanted a lawn in back.
Farm forest is mostly good. The floodplains are scrubby in places now because an ash borer killed most of the ash trees. Maples, walnuts & floodplain oaks are okay though. Forests on the slopes and ridges are continuing to mature and to spread into some of the old fields.

I'll have a better handle on what's up in central Pennsylvania after next week. Plan to go up Saturday and stay through the following weekend. Come home the day before Halloween.

Back from the land of no internet and no cellphone reception. Played plumber, electrician, landscaper, cook and handyman. Also taught my niece a bunch of basic chemisty, to help her through in intro. lectures in a microbiology course.

Nice break from the weekly grind.
Also why do they even make extension ladders that are only rated for 200 lbs.? Who are these under 90 kg men who are supposed to use them?
Aug 29 2017 03:41 AM -
OMGWTFBBQPONIES
found some isolated ladder model for working with utility poles that has 100-80 kg limit for lengths from 2 to 4.5 m.
but there's another model that can hold 150kg (seems to be the most common weight limit everyone mentions) and the only noticeable difference I see is the first one having replaceable parts and the second one mentioning pole girth range.

Not replant the sapling over the sewer line, I hope. Well, I guess it depends on the size of the adult plant...

Mature plant will be ~8-10 m. Planting it near the filled ditch but not in it. Sewer line is > 3 m deep there, so the pipe should be safe from that tree.

This week half us get to feel like Ishvalans. We'll just have to see how many months, years or generations it lasts, and how much worse it gets before it gets better.

Brought a jack-o-lantern costume for our boy cat. It was the only thing in the pet store small enough with sleeves. Wearing it he can't reach to spot he's be licking bare. Will give it a chance to heal.

Let's hope that he heals up quickly before he loses all of his natural dignity as a cat. Also, let's hope that Homeland Security doesn't mistake a cat in a hoodie as a potential terrorist!
Our female cat considers me to be her personal slave that is expected to shower attention on her whenever she needs it. She also feels that it is her solemn duty as the ruler of our household to shed her black fur all over any freshly finished laundry, especially the white bed linens.

Thanks! We've had cats with white fur--ideal for decorating my wife's black clothes, with black fur--better for light colored carpet and bed linens. Now we're back to orange tabby colors that show up on anything not already orange. Fortunately(?) they're short-haired, so it doesn't form into giant furballs all by itself. (Requires mixing with long blond/gray hair from the humans to produce scary hair amasogi.)

Back from ~10 days at my mom's old farm. It has lawns again! around the house, and no longer looks abandoned. The little tractor was acting up so most trails still need clearing & the house needs paint. Was a good break.

I don't know if I'd say it's ok. She's getting treatment for depression associated with the disease. Still with her mind mostly gone and a profound loss of control over her life and daily activities, having been a very independent and brilliant woman, it's hard not listen a little bit when she says how much she wants to die--how wrong it feels to still be alive when she's lost so much of herself.

Try this nice little "shoujo" manga called Franken Fran. The main character is this wonderful, kind, female doctor who uses her skills to help all of her clients to the best of her abilities. And she has a sister with a tragic past. Truly a marvelous series with plenty of "feels."
Creepy-crawly "feels", maybe, but still... LOTS of "feels"!

I was wondering, shouldn't modern feminists be called 'neo-feminists'?
Jun 08 2016 10:13 PM
-
Natureboy
Did I? Hmmm. There's the view that mid-20th century feminists wanted a kind of equal rights that left women as men with wombs instead of cocks. I'll certainly concede that viewing exaggerated feminine and masculine traits as strictly negative was a bit impoverished. I kind of think the broader culture has gone somewhat overboard the other direction.

Various western cultures (and western-influenced eastern cultures) have yet to evolve a set of default social roles that are flexible, yet comfortable for most people and compatible with shared parenting. Social images tend to be dominated by advertising to the peak consuming demographics, who, not coincidentally are also at the ages where most reproductive choices are being made.

Well . . . being the youngest one might be more likely to develop an immunity to being told what to do. As a adult, you listen politely but then go do what you were going to do anyway.

Don't people teach their kids the value of things anymore? Or so I would like to say, but so much of our society is consume and dispose nowadays I don't know if I can blame them. I didn't ask but what sort of keyboard was it? If that happened to my precious mechanical tapper, I really would deep-fry 'em!
