In the end I closely follow this. It is disturbing but it can still be swallowed - I can't swallow Aku no Hana.

All I hope is I don't get nightmares from this. That's when I will stop following.

Yes while myths are wildly variable there are usually some consistencies between even other mythological ones. I'm just saying though that the plot device being something as... awkward as having no genitalia makes it terrible for something with an inherent romantic plot. I mean I get that there was a point in literary history where the idea of "romantic/ non sexual love" was a thing... but, that was more based around the idea of solely romantic love and was denying the existence of sexual love (basically ye olde censorship) as something base. But, this basically clashes with both ideals making it so that the ending will either end up with a "deus ex machina" or a completely unsatisfying "oh we're in love but will never consummate that relationship because we can't" ending. Just got reminded of Chobit's manga ending... that was probably the most viscous ending when it came to the latter type.

 
That's a far better argument. However, I'll note that love without the kind of consummation you speak of does exist in real life and can happen for a number of reasons. In the end, sexual intercourse isn't the be-all end-all of sex--I'd actually say that Kageo and Lalabel's an extremely sexual couple with how outright erotic they act (seriously, groping her breast right in the front of the guy you're talking to?). Neither is sexual consummation the be-all end-all of love. And Chobits was strange in a number of ways, but I don't want to get into too much of a tangent. I do think that Chobits was intended to have the ultimate lesson that it's best to love unconditionally; it just executed that oddly.

I've got to admit, knowing full well the other works of this author, it's impressive how he can make drawings so crude and odd. Fits well with this manga, which you can't take neither serious, nor as a joke

This series reminds me of an old story...

 

Ol' Pervy died and ended up in Hell.  The Devil was giving Pervy a tour of Hell and Pervy noticed that everywhere he was taken, there were plenty of barrels of whiskey and lots of beautiful women.  At one point, Pervy tried to get a drink of whiskey for himself and he noticed that the barrel was empty due to a hole in the bottom.  When he asked the Devil about this, the Devil replied, "Yeah, all of the whiskey barrels have holes in their bottoms and all of the women don't have holes.  That's REAL HELL, ain't it!?"
