I'm fully expecting Chouno to "submit," continue to hunt Danno and Ryuuzaki, and then turn on Zero at a critical juncture because fuck you, nobody tells the ace of the First Division what to do.
I'm just hoping he doesn't die a heroic death to go with it. Being Chouno is suffering. :/
In page 31, I assume Hibino is saying "I'm just something that Ryuzaki uses as he pleases." did anyone else find that a bit weird o.o

I rather liked the extra chapters. We keep seeing stories about corrupt police officers and never about the few that are actually doing what they should. Bit heartwarming to be honest.

So, it's pretty much confirmed that Ikuo is some sort of super soldier, right?
Ikuo is the Magnificent Steiner from Monster we've never seen unleashed on screen.
Not really. The two are complimentary. Ikuo is stronger and is an excellent investigator, but Danno is better at manipulating people and is behind a great part of Ikuo's success as a detective by feeding him information from the underworld. Don't you remember that he was able to ferret out that girl trafficker back in the Abuse Arc? It was also Danno who uncovered the whole connection to Zero, back in the Infiltration Arc.
I think the author has succeeded at creating a duo that is truly a duo. The story is mainly narrated from Ryuuzaki's point of view, but Danno's interventions have been crucial to the success of most of his cases. The bus hijacking incident also proved that Danno is the better one at reading the psyche of criminals (he was the one who guessed correctly that the hijacker was going for the Professor's grandson). And let's not forget that Danno was the one who found Hayato.
I find your admiration for Ryuuzaki interesting, because I know quite a few commentators who admire Danno for similar reasons as you and believe Ikuo is the one dragging him down. This only shows that the author has achieved a good balance: both sides are correct. Personally, my favourite arcs are those when the two are not just meeting sporadically, but working together most of the time, like this one.
As for the remainder of your speculation, as the translator I won't say anything.
Damn, I can't wait to finally see Ikuo unleashed for real. Dude's probably gonna rampage and go loose canon from Danno eventually. Taking down like 70 cops in the process singlehandedly.
If anything Danno is weighing him down. Not only is Ikuo better at being a detective but way stronger too. Although Ikuo probably wouldn't be able to keep his sanity intact enough to continue his double life, he'd probably just become a badcop serial killer.
I also suspect Ikuo's relationship with sensei is way deeper than he's letting on. We saw in a flashback that Danno had a gradeschool crush on sensei, which is part of what fuels his revenge. Sensei also proclaimed to "have someone she loves" already. I'm guessing gold watch was her lover (who couldn't be with her because of section 0 undercover bullshit) and Ikuo was the child they had together, who was likely separated due to circumstances.
Either that or we go full /ss/ and Ikuo was actually Sensei's lover, which would better explain his fractured psyche, as unlikely as it actually is.
