I went into this not expecting anything, but was drawn in completely. I was surprised at how much I liked it!

Damn, the main girl is such an idiot. She didn't realize the problems she was causing until Toru's true friend Hijiri explained it to her.
I hope Toru ends up with Hoshimiya. She's way better than the main girl.

He has a point. Nobody in their friend group really stops to consider what his life is like as an iris zero, and what consequences might arise if he "forgets" his place.

Most of them weren't there when he was outed as a zero. They've been told how bad it would be for him to draw too much attention, but it is still an abstract concept largely removed from their day-to-day life as opposed to something they have experienced first-hand. It isn't "real" to them.

 

And Sasamori... sweet, naive Sasamori...

She's so unwaveringly happy and friendly and kind that it is likely difficult for her to even imagine such a situation is possible. I doubt she truly believes that the human breast could possibly harbor such malice, such venom, such pure SPITE as they claim.

 

I am not defending the gang, just saying that I understand how Toru's life has become so dangerous. 

 

 

And on the other end of the equation, there's Toru. The only way to really regain his cover is to cut out some friends, starting with Sasamori the eternal spotlight. But she's nothing if not persistent(or they wouldn't even BE friends), and he doesn't have enough friends that he can afford to just cut a few out of his life. He loses no matter what.

This bores me........(Godly Voice).............

Rei's appearance made this manga jump the shark. She's been taking such a central role in the story for so long, and I just can't bring myself to care at all about this girl. I don't know why. All the other characters felt more real and more naturally connected to Toru, but she seems so forced down our throats. Her incredibly contrived situation didn't help either. 

I think that she appeared in a bad time (the start of the hiatus, so her arc doesn't feel well and yep, she's like Koyuki, but not like her at the same time) ... the others are from the same class or the next class (same grade), but then they show this one... a senpai, a model, it feels too much like she appeared from outside

 

and falling in love so fast, it's too forced (she felt in love in what? a day ... a couple of days?), and being a iris zero make her more likable, but still as you said the author pushed her down our throats for more drama to the main couple. I like her as a character, but it's too obvious she doesn't have a chance and is only there just for the drama, at least the other characters are there 'cause are part of the grupo, and Hijiri, 'cause he's best bro.

In the last few chapters, irises have served no purpose to the plot so he's essentially just your typical beta MC who lacks social skills in a world full of normies and the story has been progressing in that direction more and more since the hiatus.  If we take away what set this story apart, then it's just a generic angst ridden romcom and not even a good one at that.

well, everyone likes Hachiman type of character ...

... also, saying a MC is beta, is like saying a series has NTR, they just throw it and throw it even without understanding the full meaning.

I'm the only one that for a moment thought "did i just got rick rolled?" during this chapter? Even the lyrics make sense to how the story is going on.

I have a soft spot for the 'noble confidante' role of girls. Muv Luv's Meiya for an other example.

Never bring that up, meiya is best girl and will always be best girl. She never dies and lives happily ever after with takeru. No questioning it.

I think it's come down to Toru resolve.. like: " I Iove her, what you all gonna do about that!" But, he need time to think, because this is a new experience to him. Hell yeah, I still shipped those two though.. Go Toru Go!

Moreover, because Sasamori is so nice it's hard to tell whether she truly has feelings for Toru. It's also wholly possible that Hijiri sees butterflies and is trying to stop something bad from happening.

Wow the author could not have hammered it home any harder that best girl ship isn't even going to leave port. Wait a minute...who was best girl again? I could have sworn it was Koyuki until the new girl (Rei?) came along...

Its better to make enemies than friends.

i just love reading stories about relationship between bunch of school brats that talk about love like its the end of the world
