That could not have happened in a better way. I was almost as stunned as Yona... and then I started laughing maniacally. Hak's frustration and release are perfect.

Well, I have thought it gazillions of times since the beginning of the series, but Hak is a completely enjoyable character. XD

The absolute madman.

I wonder what the outcome of this story will be. Now, more than ever, we need King Il's backstory.

The way I see it, Il may have become careless in his management of Kouka's internal affairs due to listening to the gods too much, so to speak.

 

While I stand by my distrust of Soo-won, and my belief that he's far too keen on settling matters with war and deserves to die for that, I'm beginning to think that Il may have sealed his own fate by telling Soo-won that Yona would be the one to save Kouka.

 

Soo-won was certainly moved at least in part by the desire to avenge his father (and seriously, people who praise him and criticise his detractors among readers as people who can only think of revenge forget that he, too, mas motivated by that). However, he seems a down-to-earth man who believes humans should sort out the affairs of humans. So if he was led to believe that Il was neglecting the kingdom due to a belief all would be set right when his daughter ascended to the throne, and all there was to do was to keep peace at all costs until that happened, he may have thought his uncle had lost his marbles and was a danger to Kouka.

 

I would sympathise with Soo-won's humanism (in the original sense of the word) were it not for the fact that, well, in this universe gods do exist. So their role in the affairs of men is not to be disregarded, even if humans still ought to solve their problems with as little divine intervention as needed.

 

If prophecies can be relied on, the voice of the gods can reach the ears of people like Ik-soo, Zeno and probably Il himself (who seemed to be in charge of Kouka's religious rituals as shown in the New Year extra), and people can actually be chosen by the gods to wield their power, Soo-won makes a terrible miscalculation in trying to deny them a role in the movings of the world.

 

In that sense, while Il may have listened to the gods too much, Soo-won may be on his way to ruin for listening to them too little. Challenging the gods, in fact, is one of the original definitions of hubris. And we all know what befalls people who display that kind of behaviour, don't we?

 

While Il was right that peace was the foremost concern of a leader, he was wrong that it could be achieved in a state of weakness. Soo-won may be right that a kingdom has to be strong to uphold the peace, but is wrong in conflating strength with belligerence. Yona seems to have stricken the right balance.

 

But I need to know more on Il. Why did he ascend to the throne? Was it because King Joo-nam, his father, realised the younger son could hear the voice of the gods? And why did Il have Yu-hon murdered? Was it because of his actions in the war, or was it because of something more sinister? And why did Il object so strongly to Soo-won and Yona getting married? Is it because he already had an inkling of what was wrong with Soo-won's notions?

 

Aaaah, I want to know more, but I have the impression it will take quite a while for these questions to be addressed.

I see. In that case, it might be a good idea to update the upload policy in the group profile here in Batoto. I was this close to uploading it the day it came out in Facebook and only didn't because PlumJucie wrote she was going to do it soon. As of now, anyone who checks the policy will conclude there are no bans on who can upload or when. I'd suggest you write "only staff can upload" or a minimum delay to avoid problems.

My understanding is that we will continue to upload to batoto for completion. However, we will delay the upload by a few days in respect to Mangastream.

There's one thing I don't understand. Mangastream have posted chapter 149 in their reader, even though they are not credited as joint partners for this series. And the chapter was posted here, which is against their policy. Does that mean chapter 150 and onwards won't be hosted in Batoto any more?

I think the author will definitely bring it up later, that seems to be what the chars do. But dang, no one else seemed to connect those dots.

 

Also, Su-won's memory means he knows full well. I'm curious how this will resolve now.

Oh, I think some others may be connecting the dots.  But what do you do about it?  Many of the generals respect Soo-won and prefer his actions over that of his predecessor.  They all agreed to make him king.  He's been a man of action, but he's also a man of unpredictability.
