Posted by First of all, Hello~ (Its me. -That meme has been in my mind for too long and its been trying to get in everything i do but back to the message)
I am Hibari from Sweet Indulgent (sweet-indulgent.ucoz.com) and I would really like to have you in our team. Of course that is your choice but first hear me out~ (I shall now do it in the format the person did it ontop of me so sorry if it looks like im stealing that format, just trying to reply to the original message).
1. A group that is maybe active on Skype so I have people to chat with about manga, anime, games etc.
-Well, I would say a few of us are active in Skype (mostly me and another cleaner in our group). It is a little difficult to have us always on skype since half of us are still in college and the other half have a job. I am also always in our website's chatango (the website is ontop) and depending on the time (Time zone can sometimes be a problem) other staff are there too.
2. A group with good standards that puts a lot of effort into cleaning and font and stuff to make their releases really look professional
-Hmm I wouldnt say we are proffesionals but we (well, me since I'm the admin of SI) try to keep it as beautiful and pretty (as I call it anyways) as it can be. For me this means are close to the original one as we can. As i said, since i work on them myself, I cant really be the jodge of it so I would rpefer if you yourself do it and tell me what you think.
3. A group that is efficient, so when I send them a translation it's not a month or so before I finally get to see the end product
-For the releases, it could take 1-2 weeks to be released since it has to go through PR and then Editing (Clenaing and Typesetting) and lastly Quality Checking to make sure everything is well before we can release it. We always try to release 1-2 chapters a week from our different translators because we like to show our translators the final release as soon as we are able to so that they know they mean alot to us and the group.
4. A group that has standards and double-checks translations for typos or strange English. When someone works with Japanese for too long they tend to forget how unnatural certain phrases sound in English, so having a proofreader to make sure my English sounds good is a must!
-This is definitely something we always check. We got a couple of PRs who always like to speak with the translators about translations because they either find something hat doesnt make sense or they want to double check a translations before they can send it back to us for typesetting.
5. A group that is neither too strict nor too lax on timelines. I don't want anyone breathing down my neck to rush things out hours after the raws hit (I have a job to do, after all) but on the other hand I also don't want a group that will just hand-wave and say 'well, we'll get around to releasing it whenever'.
-I am sure we are not strict but of course we aren't too lax either. I hate being a bother to people so what i like to say is to give us the work when you are able because we undertand that this is something like a hobby and we have our own lifes and said life can get very difficult at times. We also make a schedule for when we are planning to release such and such chapters to make sure we have time in advanced to work on it and everything is organized.
I also agree with you on the "half-way" though translation thing. When I give a chapter to a translator, I expect that translator to work on that manga as if it was their baby (yeah, weird but thats how I think) because they will begin from the beginning with them, and they will see it grow. Its just like family in my opinion. "You give it life, we see it die" or something like that is what i like to say about our projects.
