Oneshots and Doujinshis vs Series

18 August 2013 - 07:45 PM

How do you consider your opinions differ about oneshots and series on batoto?

Over a couples of years I guess I have noticed how my opinion has shifted about mangas in general.

At first I preferred reading the so-called big three, because my general acceptence of manga was shallow

and my impression of japans otaku culture was that it was aimed at freaks to be fair and honest.

When I started reading these manga I first watched the anime belonging to them like any starter would do.

I had allready watched shows like pokemon and digimon and a few other anime, but I came to like those

new ones more as soon as they appeared on my television. Soon I wanted to know more.

I found out that there is a whole world out there and that I was more concerned with protecting my own

opinion about things than being considerate and curious. I wanted to change this and slowly tried

reading more manga and watching more anime. It became a hobby which I loved and still do.

I came to know more about mangas and their genres and my repulsion towards more daring mangas

soon lessened creating an opening for the less popular shounen manga.

As soon as I noticed how repetetive some scenarios in manga became I decided to only pick my

mangas more carefully. I wanted mangas to have certain charm to them and looked for that.

I mean: How unique should a manga get when you really desire to have a change of pace?

Please write your full opinion about the matter and not the just the first word that pops into your mind.

My opinion:

Oneshots and Doujinshis can be almost anything. An attempt to make a series or a great story on

it's own. Doujinshis make use of existing works of literature or mangas or anime and give it a new

shape expressing a creative idea, a desire or something entirely new. Doujinshis can also be

a work of young aspiring artists and writers to express their voice. I decided to put these to categories

together because they are a less frequent minority that easily gets overlooked and is rarely commented

on. In no sense at all do I consider the 2 to be the same thing. Yet when I look at comments at manga

that became a series I see a lot of frustration with the pattern that has become predictable and

a lot less convincing. I made this observation after reading said manga and agree with a lot of these

comments.

Series are often aimed at dragging out events with little original means. The aim is to make the story

flow and not to create a stockpile of originality. This means that the amount of additional content is

kept to a minimum and depends on the limit of 18-50 pages. Sadly the amount of pages will remain at

less than 22 if it ever exceeds the 18 at the majority of times. Or if written and drawn for another magazine

it could be around 30-60. Page numbers do not say anything about the originality of the author, but

it has strong influence on the authors freedom to create a stable convincing work. Imagine what

I could write less with a single word than with a finished sentence and the same applies to a series

if not the least.

Series have often dissappointed me in regards to their predictability. The charakters are often plate

served models from some kind of manga guide for beginners or the development of the growth relies

on a single spec or talent.

Sorry for dragging this out and feel free to ignore the normal text if you only desire to write.

Charakter naming

16 December 2012 - 05:25 PM

I've been trying for a while now, but naming a figure for a story just is a pain. I can't come up with anything and trying to find some names for them haven't resulted in much usefull yet. Can someone give me a tip or hint on finding and/or creating usefull names?
