Nice to meet you, translator-kun! :D

As for tips... I've been scanlating for nearly a month now and here's what I've figured out:

  • Find something you're passionate about! Motivation definitely helps the translation process (as with anything, really).
  • Fluency in English is extremely useful. For instance, idiomatic expressions can be your "Get Out of Jail Free" cards!
  • More people = more time between chapters - in my opinion, a translator-editor** duo is perfect for quick releases.
  • Be prepared to learn ~ from my own experience it's quite possible for one person to translate comics on their own!

As I can only translate Chinese, I'd love to work with a Japanese translator! Feel free to let me know if you have any questions.

See ya around!

[** Note: What I call an editor is someone who handles putting the translation to the comic. Mileage with this definition may vary.]

Thank you, that's definitely helpful and I'll let you know if I have any issues :)

Hi, I don't really know too much about scanlation but I've been interested in getting into translating for awhile now. I'm not really sure how to go about getting started, nor do I have any experience. However I've been studying Japanese for six years and have a lot of free time at the moment, is there anything I would be able to help out with?

I don't know what your level of Japanese is, but you can check out the Recruitment section.

Thank you! I'll be sure to take a look.
