#1367305 Japanese Government to Start Anti-Anime/Manga Piracy Operation Next Month

Posted by Trevor Smith on 23 September 2014 - 12:03 PM

hm...  Honestly, they're not hitting the scanlators, only the hosting sites.  So it is technically both reasonable and simple to achieve.  However, they really can't do much about free translation of manga, so they can only really go after the aggregate sites, like Batoto.

"Sadly", this means we will have to go back to the regular days, of looking up stuff on Baka Updates like usual.  It's inconvenient, but that's the way it is.

I'm neither for nor against Japan trying to prevent piracy of the medium if the product is actually licensed.  But since most of what I read isn't available here in the states (within reasonable convenience (15mins searching)) I'm content to keep up with stuff from the scanlators.  Not to mention, they're usually really good on letting you know when stuff is available for purchase in english.

P.S.  I've bought "licensed" manga just so I could download the fan translations legally.  They seem to be better in many regards, ya know?
