Multiple Volume Cover's

So currently on the main page for a series displays the most recent cover with some exceptions. But this is usually done by whoever gets to it and doesn't always represents the series as a whole and potentially spoils longer running series. So I'm wondering if we could switch to a more archive system displaying the first volume cover and give the preceding covers in a tab format? I don't know the technical side behind this change but am interested in what others think.
