Anyways Finland has skyrocketed in education reaching #1 during these past decade.
Their secret?

I just hope other countries has noticed this and considered changing.
I do not plan to learn from pressure and excessive stress but there is no choice.

So what do you think about this creative system?

Yea it's ever kids dream lol. But now this brings into question what demographic of US students do better. Based on my experience, I find the Jewish, Russians, and Asia doing well on these tests.

It seems to suggest this non-competetiveness is what pushed Finland to this position. But alot of other changes have been made as suggested by the Young Turks, one of which is higher pay for Teachers. That could mean they have better teachers.

Okay after doing a brief readthrough of the link ^, I've come to a certain conclusion.
1. Yes USA will be unable to apply Finland's success story. Private Schools are mammoths here in the USA. They simply have too much power. Our country simply woudn't want to apply a "socialist" system. I'm sure schools like Harvard, Yale, Princeton would lose something in the long run.
2. If we were able to apply Finland's system to the USA, I do believe in it's success. I'm not sure how my African American, or Latino friends feel, but I sense that it's because of this culture created from test scores which segregate cultures and create inequality that certain groups of people don't wish to truely educate themselves.
3. I would like to find out about how other countries education system works, particularily China. They have a large population, how does their education work?

If you compare Finland's relax and non stressful/pressured to South Korea's(their rivals) insane education, clearly it is ridiculous.
But I don't really blame the system as the real source is money. They want to gather the best people to work for them for more money.
The real problem is that people are forced to learn in an amazing pace in order to have a decent life instead of learning of what they want to know.

Sorry but it is really hard for me to explain what I am really trying to say. It would be more clearer if you watch documentaries.

i have finnish friends and they don't seem stressed about school haha ._. they're like the most chill people i know ._. i asked one of them before about they want to do and if it offers them a lot of opportunities and welp, they don't seem bothered by it. one of them has just recently entered the military though.

One of the things I agree with is that it shouldn't be so easy to become a teacher, and even 10 years through their career, even if they suck terribly, you can't ever fire them. Overall, I'd say it's still too easy to become a teacher, and get away with being a terrible teacher. Aside from other things, while they may be good ideas, each country has its own culture and circumstance that have to be considered. Interesting video though.

Good for Finland...and I mean that in all sincerity. The wisest move they could make is to quit trying to help other countries by telling them the secret to their success in the first place. Certainly in the case of the US, no matter what they say, they aren't going to listen anyway. Nationalistic arrogance to the point of being delusional. We've got a lot of that.

It's very interesting, but of course, countries with different values will find it hard to understand.
Perhaps one day the Finnish education system will be implemented elsewhere, and the world will finally be able to compare and contrast the two nations. Either way, I'm just happy that schooling in Australia is free, and that even when it isn't, the government always helps us.

can't imagine this being implemented in developed Asian countries simply because competition and survival are deep rooted in our culture. We tend to disregard the fact that it's more conducive, more individuals would get the chance to help the society instead of being forced on a path simply because it promises an "upper hand" so to say.

Let's all make an artificial island where we take and implement all of the perceived best concepts and let's see whether everything turns out utopic

The US education system (and all those based on it) needs to be completely rebuilt. It's just inherently flawed, a horrible classist remnant from the industrial era that's more about maintaining power imbalances than anything else. Pretty much anyone who works in education agrees on this.

It's very interesting, but of course, countries with different values will find it hard to understand.

@Aote: First off, I didn't mean you insulted anyone nor that I agreed with what was said. Just quoted both posts as an additional.

Again, it's a matter of perspective. What might be normal opinion for us maybe racist for another. It's still an opinion and we should respect that...

That being said, I won't mind getting this implemented here.... I had enough of the stresses of higher education. :3

Well I'm not entirely sure that I am. Of course that's solely because your comment makes absolutely no sense to me. What racism? Fire away, I'd love to hear it. Being an ass? Why? As the video and pretty much every opinion here stated it's a waste of effort on the part of Finland to try to help those who only pay lip service to actually wanting help. You saw the commentator recounting the meeting between Educational representatives of Finland and the US, it's exactly what I would expect from us. Nobody knows as well as the US, no matter what the numbers say, but we'll make a show of acting like we're listening. I stand by my point, you can't help those that don't want help. Good for Finland, they've obviously found a better way, and if nobody wants to listen they should just let everybody else sink on their own.

My days of blindly following and mindlessly gobbling up whatever informational slop the powers that be feel like dumping in the trough are about 3 decades in the past. Take it for what you think it's worth, doesn't bother me one way or the other.
