[Katzen]

Flash fiction - is a style of fictional literature or fiction of extreme brevity. There is no widely accepted definition of the length of the category.

I guess, for now we can have a cap of 300 words or less? That seems to be enough i also accept prompts! i'm not good at it, but prompts mean practice!

to begin....

Who breaks the thread, the one who pulls, the one who holds?¹

Faded, almost forgotten memories flickered past his tired mind, replaying scenes like an old movie. An ache spread throughout his entire being. Why, after all this time, did the thought of her come up now? Scenes appeared behind his eyelids like words scribbled carelessly, words he had already read so much he had almost memorized them.

He groaned, trying to shut the memories back into the depths of his mind. This is just another day, he says, just another cruel taunt of destiny. Not nearly as cruel as when she left, he thinks as he snaps out of his morbid reverie.

He closes his eyes in silence and smiles. The words, her memories, the love…what about them?

One, two, three…

The thread breaks.

Don't expect anything interesting. Or well-written. Don't even expect it to make any sense!

He stared at the two words, imposing on the clean white sheet.
Tomorrow?
What on Earth was he going to write?
Ideas ran through his head like a stream - insubstantial, illusory, fanciful.

Flight?
No, that wouldn't do.

Hm, how about dreams?
Maybe, possibly... but no. Too little, too late.

Life, loss, love, legend! - no - death, destruction, damnation, d- what was the word?

It was on the tip of his tongue... deli- no. Dil- no! - d- NO!

BAM!

He slammed his fists on the desk, sending small tremors going down the inkwell.
Grabbing at it, he narrowly missed spilling ink on his immaculate worktop.

This. This wasn't right! He was thinking in the wrong direction.

He went to the bathroom, turned on the tap, and splashed water on his face.
Cool water cleared his thoughts, and he felt refreshed.

Time to think.

Just another day...

I told you it wouldn't make any sense, and would suck, didn't I?

Written just now, after a prompt agreement via Skype. My prompt was "Parkour ontop of peoples heads". It's also exactly 300 words long.

Time to do this.

I’d consulted a myriad of webpages. I’d chatted with several professionals. I considered myself an expert already. Honestly, how difficult could it be, once you put your mind to it? I felt strong, I felt invincible.

Standing on top of that roof, hopping in place while waving my clenched fists to up my adrenaline levels. Just as I’d seen it on TV. I envisioned my rise to the top already. Those fluid motions, those nearly superhuman abilities to scale every hinder, every obstacle in their way...they were my heroes. I wanted that power. And now I had acquired it. I just knew so.

I started running. Aiming for that house wall. I knew exactly what I was going to do. Jump towards it, step off it, down on the balcony, then swing down on the street and continue towards the park. The park of obstacles.
I reached the wall.

My ugly, green crocs took a momentary grip towards it, and then slipped.

I fell.

As my body hung weightless in the air, starting its hurtling journey down towards the ground, I heard a faint echo of an elderly man’s voice waft by my ears.

- “What the fu-“

I felt an impact. There was a thud, and a cracking sound. I regained composure just as I felt my feet slam hard into the tarmac; I wobbled slightly, but somehow remained standing. I then looked down at my crocs. They were no longer green, but dark red and sticky. I looked behind me, towards the man I had landed on, lying on the ground, his head cracked open and fragments of his skull and brain, along with a ton of blood, splattered all over the sidewalk and on my shoes.

He was unmistakably dead.

Here's my interpretation.

“I mash potatoes,” said a suited man as he stares at you. You probably felt this creep down your back days ago. Feeling paranoid you, Eli, quickly turn your head to the left, scanning the area for misplaced objects. You hear a noise, Eli, you turn around.

“I mash potatoes,” said the Potato-Masher in a deep gruff voice.
“I mash many potatoes, big potatoes, small potatoes, African potatoes, Japanese Potatoes, Cyrillic Potatoes. I mash everything. I like mash. Mash Mash,” he said.

You turn around Eli, you flinch. You want to start screaming like a wittle girl. But you can’t. Your voice is gone. You can’t say anything. Your legs shake as you try to get up.
You crawl desperately.

“I mash apples also. Apple fun to mash” he said as you notice a huge scar on his face, like that of one made by a sharp blade.
“I mash oranges, pears I mash everything. I like to mash”, he continues as you notice dark red liquid on his mace which he used to mash the vegetables.
“I like to mash hard things too as well as soft things. I like to hear the crunch when I mash melons. Mash is fun,” he continues.

You start to lose blood. Your face turns pale. Eli, you have to control your breathing. Breath deep breaths. In and out. In and Out. But no matter what I say, you start to lose control of your body. You can’t lose control now, not now. Be strong Eli. Don’t be scared.
In front of you was a teddy bear holding a bowl of mashed potatoes. And you finally faint Eli.
“I like to mash tomatoes too, mash mash!” said the Potaoto-Masher.

Nothing but silence filled the gap in the room. He pretended he didn't hear the words that just fell from her lips. Lies, he thought, just one of her sugarcoated lies. The kind she makes up in her head so convincingly that she's starts to believe they're real. He pretended to be unaffected, although the revelation surprised him.

"Why?",he pressed, and the other turned away to face the glass wall. It provided a view of the city, a good view of her battleground. "Incomprehensible reasons...for you, I mean. I don't see any point in conveying this to you." She blindly reaches back to the table for her glass. For her, a shot of whiskey made things better, it made things clear.

But for the person at the other side, he got served with a shot of disbelief, a little sadness and lemon wedges. "What do you mean?" He asks, intent on making her spill. She turned and looked at him sharply. "My enemy is Batman. What part of that confuses you?" Frustrated, he lets out a sigh.

There's no changing her.

The night took a better turn later on, and he heard her laugh as she usually does perhaps for the last time. As he finally walked down the steps out of her house, he knew he wouldn't see the same woman if he turned around now.

Still he does.

Slowly, a man appears from the shadows, a car behind him. "Good evening, Master Wayne. Penny for your thoughts?" he asks, watching as the woman disappears into the darkness of her house.

"Nothing much, Alfred." The man, Alfred, opened the car door for the younger. "Batman is my enemy..." he murmurs under a heavy sigh, and he left his old self with the thud of the car door closing.

And so did the Mashmash Masher awake to a cold room. His dream still tickling the insides of his brain. Delighted with himself and what he wished to accomplish. He quickly departed, a devious scheme in mind.

Slowly did the Masher creep up on Eli. His every step filled with vigor His mouth salivating at the thought of tormenting this man. His masher premashing. He simply could not contain all the excitement of hunting this prey.

But in his excitement, he made a grave error. He whispered to himself his plans for his next target.
"Melons... Hehehe"
Faster than the eye could trace, Eli whipped around and grabbed the Masher's Masher, tearing it from his salad fingers.
"I see you like to mash Melons?", Eli said in a low, almost inhuman growl.
The Masher, confused, never saw Eli's fist, filled with fury connect and tear into his soft flash. The knuckled boring deep towards his carotid artery. He felt no pain as he quickly fell to the floor.

A bright beam of light suddenly forced the Masher awake. Shocked, confused and in more than a moderate amount of pain, he surveyed his surroundings. He quickly surmised he was in a lab of some sort, but he knew not what for. But what stood out was the dried blood carpeting the floor and masking the walls.

"Maaasss-----h, Maa--- Ma-," wailed Potato Masher. Tears start trailing down the eyes of Potato Masher as he let go of the melons.

In the corner of the room glared bright yellow eyes filled with horror. As Eli enjoyed his monster mashing, blood splattered everywhere in the room, some splashed on those eyes turning them bright red.

Skipping happily in a field of potatoes, Potato Masher cried with joy, "Mash Mash, I like Mash". And around him, potatoes in union sang, "Mash Mash, mash me." But suddenly his world cracked, blood started pouring in. All the poor potatoes around Potato Masher started falling dead.

"Maaaaa----sssssssssssssssh," Potato Masher screamed!

As Eli continued his torture, blood fell into a bowl a bowl containing potatoes, mashed potatoes, staining them red. And next to it was a teddy bear. You wouldn't believe me but, the teddy bear was crying, it was crying blood red tears.

There was no reply - beads of sweat dripped down Sakii's forehead, as he frantically searched for a place to hide the story clasped in his hands, knocking over a lamp stand, various framed pictures an-

"What is that racket?! I'm coming in, Sakii!"
The door handle clicked.
Sakii froze in mid-step, unfinished story clasped in his hands, now clammy with sweat.

Mel snatched the story out of his hands.

Her eyes widened as she read the first few words, and her hands began to shake.

"Er, I was w-" Sakii began, but Mel cut in sharply, pupils inhumanely dilated.

"Sakii?"

"Yes?" came a hopeful reply.
Was it possible? Could he have been forgiven?
Mel was very kind after all... wasn't she?

"PUNISHMENT TIME."

"Ah, shit."
