she came from alternative 3 or 2 i forgot, basically she's a person that designated to has psychic power like mind reading and else by the UN, in alternative 4 program she's stil taking part by stealing information from the hive later (with shirogane and that 'brain' of course)

Altough this thread was started a year ago, the timeline details in chap 17 seem to reinforce the theory that Kasumi is the [Alternative] "soul" manifestation of Sumika.

The name/age/appearance differences could easily be attributted to the genetic details of her "creation" in the Alternative program to create ESPers.

As stated above Kasumi is simply a genetically altered human capable of ESP. Sumika herself was captured by the BETA prior to the events of Alternative and had her body dismantled until it eventually became the brain that Kasumi is constantly with. The reason Kasumi acts similarly to Sumika is because she can use her ESP abilities to vaguely communicate with Sumika in her brain state. SPOILERS IN REGARDS TO ALTERNATIVE IV:

Not really. The 00 unit IS in fact Sumika

 

The person who this brain belongs to is Sumika. The BETA experimented on her till only brain and spinal cord were left (and later recovered when they raided the hive)

Kasumi's origins are never really explained, but one of the theories is that she is the "little sister" of Cryska Barchenova and Inia Sestina (the 2 russian girls in Muvluv Alternative: total eclipse). Why? The 2 girls are also "artificial espers" like Kasumi, most likely from the same project so it wouldn't be surprising if they were sisters

 

As the hot teacher was unable to create these superconductors, she was unable to create a body for Sumika and alternative 4 was abandoned back in Unlimited. Oh, and back in Unlimited the UN didn't really expect them to find a suitable planet, they only did this by "sacrificing the 100.000 people" and getting an excuse to take out the big guns (G-bombs). Also, they ended up submerging pretty much everything with that, screwed up communication and submerged most hives, making them impossible to destroy (the 100.000 people apparently found a good place to live at )

 

 

Why won't BETA regard humanity as life forms?

The biggest Beta on earth, the "Superior" explained (Alternative IV was a success and they had some time to chit-chat with it before blowing the damn thing to hell:

 

1) They don't regard themselves as lifeforms either

 

2)They were created by something called the "creator", a silicon-based lifeform (the 00 unit is, simply put, Sumika's brain inside a silicon-based body) and only regard silicon-based lifeforms as life forms at all

But even the Superior has no idea about when the "creator" made them OR is he's "alive" at all

 

3) The appearance and looks of BETA are classified information only disclosed to those fighting them (the military and people like that) because people might end up thinking they were some kind of biological weapon that went out of control

 

4) There are no BETA made for combat. The laser class for example is actually made to drill the long tunnels of a hive with its powerful laser and so on. All they are supposed to do is harvest the so- called G-element and send it to space.

And as they don't see humans (or rather any life at all on this planet) as life form, they most likeley regard dealing with the military as "dealing with a troublesome environment"

To add further to what was explained before. Kasumi job is

Really to communicate with Sumika (brain) exchanging her memories with Sumika and vice versa. That's what Takeru is reminded of Sumika so much when he's with Kasumi, because she's mimicing her. (It's also later discovered she's mimicing Sumika's behaviour according to Takeru's memories hence the gameboy picture/gift.)

This is all explained a bit before the Sadogashima Attack/Christmass arc but it'll be 20 or so chapters before we get to it in the manga with the rate it's going.

 

Though I have to admit the manga is a lot more... ecchi than the light novel. Especially with the latest chapter (20). Hehe, boobies.

The "creator" of the BETA is not a "he," its pretty much stated to be a silicon-based civilization. The BETA are analogous to "machines" made by this civilization with the purpose of gathering resources. Whether this civlization still exist or not is unknown, but their creations continue to procreate and infest the universe base on their original programing. The goal of the "Alternative" universe after the end of the viusal novel was to get in contact with this civlization since they are at least intellegent beings and can be reasoned with so peace can be established. The BETA only act in accordance with their programing so they cannot be reasoned with.

 

The creator civilization of the BETA is probably already gone, which meant there was no one to regulate the BETA anymore, allowing them to infest the universe to the ridiculous degree that they have.
