Hoping you all have a happy new year!
2024 is probably going to be a pretty stressful year for anyone not living under a rock, so: Hang in there! ファイト! >.<

I mean, oversimplifying, roughly: American politics and their outcomes affect the globe at large much more than they should, and this is about to be the "half the country has been convinced the crazy guy who quotes Hitler and promises a dictatorship is our holy saviour and/or no worse than the kind of mediocre disappointing guy currently in office" election year.
I feel confident in predicting that at least the second half of the year is going be very stressful for a lot of people!
If you live in America and aren't a white straight cis man, you have things to worry about. If you live in Europe and are worried about the integrity of NATO as the first modern war in Europe unfolds in your backyard, you have things to worry about. If you live in Central or South America, you have a potential powerful neighbor who's lately been talking about how your "blood is poisonous" to worry about.
If you live anywhere else, you have the potential of increased global instability from all of that and the economic, political, and military fallout from that to worry about.
Some days I really feel like everyone in the world should have a fractional vote on who the U.S. President is going to be. XD

I've been living under a rock, but I think it's time to come out of my little cave and see the world

I dont think you could have done anything that would make me believe you deserve a bad time.
Everyone makes mistakes and humans are famously fallible.
So I dont think you should view whatever happened as a stain on your character,
rather than just the world being stupid the way it is.

yes and no... i haven't been as proactive or energetic as I would have like to have been... mainly I've been napping 1-2 hrs a night after shower, when I felt emotionally exhausted, when I couldve been studying or looking for a new job.
And then I worry about things that shouldnt have to be... needless things... It varies with mood surprisingly. It's strange how a small thing triggers memories
world is just cruel like that you know... even when i have nothing against you or those you love you're just pitted against them coz rule of the jungle etc etc

Well you said it yourself. Youre exhausted. I think its fine to not be able to do mentally exhausting things when you already are exhausted.
Even more so when were talking about the current job market which is just a radioactive dumbsterfire that someone tried to extinguish with gasoline.
But I dont really think youre pitted against anyone. I feel the world is mostly just ambivalent to anything.
World keeps spinning regardless of where we are in it.
All the relationships you have could easily just vanish completly by moving a state away, even with todays connectivity.
And very few people are actually capable of caring about what others really do.
Its all mostly just social media posturing nowdays without people having actual empathy.
And even the most fervent outrage mobs dont survive 3 months.

Thank you for the kind words argo The truth is, my mood is varying too many between the days, from times where I feel I just want to lay down and sleep and not care, to days where I feel like I should/could be doing something useful, to days where I actually do useful things.
Life is tough for you, for me, for everyone. The AI revolution is creeping in, slowly but suredly. There is nothing we can do but to just watch the wave run over us. Some people would most likely be taken by the undertow. There is a myriad of problems tbh.
Even if you were close to them, would you be able to help them? like, offer them a job? If you were "nice" and tried to "help", then would it cut into your bottom line as a capitalist? How would you be able to sustain a loss long term? That's what I'm not sure about.
I felt ok yesterday. I have devised a plan to stay in the sun more often. That seem to help a bit.

Some sun can definitely help with the seasonal depression.
As someone who knows a lot about AI and is very good at predicting the future.
It utterly and completly impossible to determine what impact AI will have. Not even a tiny little smidgen.
So if we were to decide to be scared of it, what are we actually scared of?
A possibility that might never even come true and is probably not even likely to come true among countless other possibilities.
So what I want to say, and this doesnt apply just to AI but to everything really.
Focus on the problems that exist and you can solve today, rather than worry about what problems you might have tomorrow.
We all live one day at a time anyways. Theres no point in attempting to go faster and do more than you actually can.
