‘Live your life as who you are, not who your parents were’
Only a few things remain of Kleen’s adopted mother: words of wisdom, a faith in the gods, and the last birthday present he received from her. And while it had been 30 years since the birthday he had gotten the watch, it still had its golden glow from the very first day in this world.
Abandoned by his real parents, who most likely were fearful of how far their relationship had gone, Kleen’s life was saved by a failed potential priestess, Leandra. Although she had been born with all three attributes under Brahma, her extremely low divinity could muster her nothing more than a BB magician rating. And while Kleen always believed his adopted mother had saved him, in all actuality Leandra was saved by him.
Growing up, however, proved to be rather long and hard process for Kleen; this, of course, came from his inherited longevity as a quarter Ananta, but more so came from his lack of a divinity worth noting. By the time that he had turned 8 years old, he remained unable to use magic, even with Leandra’s dubious methods of teaching him. Many times Leandra tried to capitalize on the strength and constitution rewarded to him by birthright, and many times did her plans leave Kleen injured and in tears. Trying, however, to keep her son from being discouraged, Leandra told him to pray to the Natural Gods, but above all else, to pray to Brahma, the god of creation: for only Brahma could create where there was nothing.
‘Only through dedication and prayer will you become a ranked magician’
Every day before being thrown into the ocean, told to run in a lightning storm with a metal rod, or forced to lay in hot coals, Kleen was awoken by Leandra and told pray. Here he excelled, and he prayed to each of the Natural Gods repeatedly. But above all else, he made sure to pray to Brahma the longest and always leave a 2-Rarv piece of gum at the shrine Leandra had built.
While the idea of becoming a magician was cool to Kleen, Kleen’s love for his adopted mother is what motivated him most of all. Even when she kept her foot on him as he struggled on top of the coals or chased him with a knife so he would jump into the water or magically created a metal rod attached to his hands out in a storm, she always made sure to pump him up whenever he was depressed, play games with him when he was bored, and take him on adventures to fuel his imagination.
And finally, through nine years of Leandra’s crazed-spartan training, Kleen’s prayers to the gods were answered by the awakening of his transcendental. A transcendental that gave him the ability to use 3 random attributes of the Natural Gods and Brahma every day. To the prideful Leandra, this only proved her training methods worked.
However, even with a new transcendental, Kleen continued to have issues. No longer having to go through experimental exercises forced upon him by Leandra, Kleen could not predict which attributes he had for the given day. More time seemed to be wasted trying to determine which attributes he had rather than actually practicing any magic.
On his 18th birthday, Kleen was not awoken by his adopted mother. Still he maintained his ritual by going throughout his daily schedule, Kleen prayed to each of the Natural Gods and made his way to Brahma’s alter that Leandra had built. There he found 2 things: a golden watch and a piece of 2-Rarv gum. 30 years since that day, Kleen still has not found his mother. 30 years since that day, Kleen still continues his journey to find her. For that reason, he has joined the group to go to Carte.
