Chapter 1 – The Lucky Ones

The prison transport shook violently. A storm was brewing outside. In spite of that, and the fact that he was carrying a box filled with some of the most dangerous men on the planet, the driver whistled cheerfully. The tune vaguely resembled “yankee doodle” though it became very obvious after hours of whistling that the man was completely tone deaf. If he knew it though, he didn’t seem to care. It was very possible that after years on the job, the old man was cracked. 

“Shut up old man,” growled one of the prisoners. He probably had a name before, but at that very moment in time he was Prisoner 547. He was a behemoth of a man really; though it was hard to tell while he was sitting down he couldn’t have been shorter than 7 feet of muscle and grit.

It didn’t deter the old driver in the slightest though, who only cackled and said, “Yer gonna hafta change that attitude to go where yer goin’ sonny. Learn ta look on the bright side o’ things.”

The transport shuddered again, more violently than before. Either it had been struck by lightning or ran over a land mine. Either way it was miraculous that the rickety looking vehicle had survived such heavy impact.

Even bound by a heavy steel collar and handcuffs, Prisoner 547’s glare was intimidating enough that those sitting near him shifted away and took a sudden deep interest in the transport’s ceiling. 

“Aw c’mon now don’t be like that. Ah always say, if ye gots a smile for breakfast, ye’ll be shittin’ joy by lunch. Ah! We’re here, lovelies!” the old driver turned around and the prisoners managed to get their first look at him. To say he was old and ugly didn’t quite do it justice. He couldn’t have been a day younger than ninety. Everything from his baggy wrinkled skin to his pale dead eye made them wonder how such a decrepit existence was still alive and kicking. The back of the transport opened up and they were blinded by a piercing white light.

“Remember lovelies, ye should laugh every moment ye live as ye’ll find it decidedly difficult afterwards.” He flipped a small switch at the front of the vehicle and a moment later Prisoner 547 collapsed forward, dead as nails.

“See what ah mean?” The driver gave them one last cheerful farewell and the gates closed behind them. The rest of them would quickly realize that Prisoner 547 was one of the lucky ones.

There exists a prison at the edge of the world; an inescapable towering bastille of steel and darkness. The inmates are deadly assassins, mass murderers, scientific masterminds, insurgent leaders, and other dangerous individuals sentenced for committing the most heinous of crimes. They call it Safety.

For the prisoners, it certainly wasn’t because the place kept them safe. They were trapped in an enormous steel cage, safe from neither the wrath of the prison’s guards or each other. After much (bloody) debate, they eventually decided it was called Safety because it kept the rest of the world safe from them. That much was certainly true. The most senior of them had been there for fifty years and though he had witnessed countless escape attempts, though none succeeded. 

It’s a dog eat dog world. Though in Safety it was more like wolf eat dog eat dog. Or bear eat wolf eat dog eat dog. You get the point.

Cell Blocks – Prison cells take up most the space on the island. Safety is home to nearly a thousand inmates, each and every one of them a dangerous hardened criminal.

The Yard – One of the few luxuries the inmates still have. Here they can spend their credits on goods like cigarettes or books, or socialize with one another. Though, more often than not, “socializing” in Safety leads to blood and grudges.

Mess Hall – Even dogs have to eat. Because it’s less supervised, mealtimes are the best time to meet and exchange goods or information away from the attention of the prison guards.

The Arena – Though some special death games may take place outside the island, here is where the majority of the Death Games are played. 

Solitary – A place you don’t want to be in. Trust me. 

The Infirmary – More of a butcher house than a place of medicine, you may end up here to get some quick patching up after a death game or as an unfortunate test subject for the island’s mad doctor

The Barracks – You won’t ever get to see it, but this is where the prison guards are housed. They probably have better food. And b*tches. 

Things to Know

Death Games – Bloody spectator sports hosted once a day where the prisoners fight for their survival. This is the fastest and most efficient way of attaining credits, though it’s also the fastest way to a grizzly death. 

Credits – A sort of currency system used by the prisoners. Credits are mostly attained from surviving Death Games, though they can also be traded amongst each other for goods or favors. Credits can also be obtained from rich benefactors who enjoy your performances in the games, so being flashy or charismatic helps. Including what’s needed for food, the cost of survival is around 50 credits per day.

The 10 Kings – The current top 10 ranked prisoners at Safety. Because each of them required so many points, most of them have retired from playing in the games. It’s rumored that even the guards don’t mess with them.

Groups

Prison Guards – though the gangs are tough, even they don’t dare mess with the prison enforcers. They are the absolute authority in Safety under the warden and going against them means a swift death. Or sometimes a not so swift death. 

The Bloodhounds – The largest and most influential gang in Safety. Their leader, Red is a member of the 10 Kings and not a man you want to get on the wrong side of. Though they are violent and vindictive, the Bloodhounds are relatively reasonable and probably won’t attack you without a reason.
 
The Brotherhood – The rival gang to the Bloodhounds and a veritable collection of murderous psychopaths. They could be called the greater of two evils and their actions are unpredictable and often extreme. Would be in your best interest to just stay clear of their path entirely.

The Hive – A small gang of women lead by Queen, a member of the 10 Kings (don’t point out the irony to her). The gang provides a safe place for women inmates, so long as they give their allegiance to the Queen.

The Rat Pack – though most are weak individually, the Rat Pack provide an important service to the prison inmates. They are more a network than a gang, and are the ones you should see should you want to attain vital information or illegal contraband. Their services don’t come cheap though.
 
Royals – more of a general term than an actual organization, royals are inmates who have culminated enough points from the Death Games to live comfortably within Safety. They're generally very influential within the prison and very dangerous.

The Resistance – the smallest group in the prison and the only ones who actually believe they can escape Safety. Most of their members meet a gruesome death after being discovered by the guards, but there are always a few lurking around.

Name: Thomas Rhoads, "Watt"

Age: 20

Sex: Male

 

Theme: Broadripple is Burning

Crime: Ostensibly, Watt's biggest crimes would be the destruction of various vending machines and hospitalizing an entire convenience store staff. More so than that, however, his crime is his existence. With little control over his power, he is a danger to everyone around him.

Backstory: They say that on the day Thomas Rhoads was born, there was a thunderstorm. They say this because there was a thunderstorm that day. It was in the papers, so you can check if you think it's too much of a coincidence. Thomas Rhoads was a special boy, but likely not because of this thunderstorm. He likes to think it was his thunderstorm, though--in fact, all those who were aware of it tend to think they're related.

 

What made Thomas special was the fact that he would constantly discharge electricity. While normally just a bit static-y, when he cried it was as if he was a living lightning bolt. His parents' clothes were singed the first time it happened; they were really uncomfortable, but they had eloped and had little help from their parents, and were desperate to make sure their child was raised right so that they could prove to their parents that they made the right decision. They wore rubber gloves and aprons around him, and he was otherwise a normal kid. Very polite, kind, and a little shy. He was perhaps a little more reserved than most kids, but that was because he was different from them. And not different in that same way everyone is different, but different in that way where he could probably kill somebody if he got too wound up. That, luckily, never happened. 

 

Thomas was made aware of his powers at a young age, and was made to fear them. His parents wanted him growing up normally and healthily and in such a way that he didn't obliterate anyone that wanted to be his friend on accident. He was precocious as a child, and was very successful in this venture for quite some time. Eventually, however, he grew jaded. Why did he have to refrain? It wasn't his fault he was born this way, why did he need to protect the people who would likely label him a freak and a monster if they knew? They didn't deserve it.

 

At first his little teenage rebellion came in small, petty bursts. Sometimes after he finished using a vending machine, it would stop working. When he shook someone's hand, they'd get a shock, and he'd pretend he'd been shocked too. Socks would be charged with so much static they'd stick to your pants. Things that didn't really hurt anyone.

 

And then he hurt someone.

 

It wasn't on purpose. He was shopping, buying soda at a convenience store. Nothing important. And the cashier looked at him weird as he was shopping, as if he was a thief. Thomas decided he'd get some revege there, and planned to shock him a bit when he paid. Something went wrong, though. He had only meant to give him a lovetap, but the cashier dropped to the floor almost immediately. Thomas panicked.

 

In his frenzy, bolts of electricity surged from his body. The lights exploded, overcharged, and other workers who went to see what was happening got caught in the accidental crossfire. No one died, but everyone but Thomas was hospitalized. In a stupor, Thomas only stood there as the electrical storm died down, seeing the destruction he had wrought. The police arrived and wanted to question him--he began to panic again. Though not as severe as before, electricity once again began to surge out, and he was subdued. After it was made clear that he could no longer control his abilities, he was sentenced to Safety.
 

Skills/Abilities: Watt can create and, to a certain extent, control large amounts of electricity. He is constantly discharging that electricity from his body, causing harm to those around him and giving everyone bad hair days (perhaps the most heinous application of these powers). He himself is immune to this inundation of electricity, which is why his hair is quite nice. In moments of stress, he loses control of these abilities almost entirely, becoming essentially a living thunderstorm.

Backstory: Adelita's life has been a race, a race against herself, One target at a time. Born to two teachers in Cancun, Adelita from a very young age was encouraged to pursue her passions and her own targets. They were juvenile at first, a new dress, a new bike, a pair of shoes etc. They became adolescent as time passed, to get a boyfriend, to be good at sports, to ace the tests etc. At 17, she was the apple of everyone's eye. Shortlisted in the Medal hopefuls for Mexico at the coming Olympics and #1 in her category in freestyle wrestling in the whole central America, life was looking good.

But they say, Life is cruel;very cruel in her case. For in a space of 2 weeks her life was blown to pieces. You ride the crests like a rodeo and brace yourself for the fall but what do you expect of a child barely making out of adolescence and with the world at her feet; her fall was particularly hard. The impact jarred her and changed her completely. Out went the budding newcomer, pegged to take the world by storm and in her place was a devasted husk maddened by her trauma.

It started with a trivial incident, well considering the magnitude of what happened afterwards. Her boyfriend of two years, the idol of girls everywhere in town, Esteban Gutierrez cheated on her with Gloria Rodriguez - the ace b*tch of the town. Rich, vain and a man-eater, she was the cause of many broken relationships as she'll snare away the men by her looks, get them hooked and then dump them after she had had her fun. Needless to say, for Adelita, it was like her world falling apart. She was heartbroken and out of zone, so life decided to drive home its point by kicking her in the 'proverbial nuts' with her coach trying to sexually assault her in the guise of helping her find her focus. Fear like a cold blade siezed her heart, it was only her instincts that somehow helped her escape but she would not leave out of it alive; atleast her sanity won't.

Realising that his career will be off-track if she blurted out to anyone, her coach called in a favor with his friends. To teach the girl a lesson in silence, but men like those deal with things a bit differently. She was cooped up in her room, a crying mess, when she heard the commotion downstairs. Her parents, great conversationalists and arguers, never stood a chance in front of men who used guns and axes to argue. With blood curling screams she was urged to flee as she shut her ears and made out of the window. The group searched for her like bloodhounds but couldn't manage to find her. She realised that now she was expendable, her death would be seen as untimely and tragic but nothing more.

Vowing vengeance, she took to shadows. If this was how she finished, she may as well take down that bastard with her. For days she stalked him, biding her time from the shadows until a chance presented itself. She seized the initiative with both hands and legs, twisted his head around to unnatural angles as she slowly constricted him. Though dead, he gave her no satisfaction, it needed something more, something that would calm the red tide rising inside. So she took a stone from the sidewalk and bashed his head until only splattered goo remained.

The follow-up by the local media sent waves all over. It got the authorities as well as others interested. One of them was Magdelina Guerrero, the leader of 'La Roja'. The enforcer wing of 'El Tigre Blanco' drug cartel. She was interested in who offed Eduard Gonzalvez, knwon in the cartel circles as 'the Pit Viper'. Though she stuck to shadows on her revenge run, she came to light shortly after. Bringing her bloody justice to those she felt had wronged her. Next on the list was Gloria who was ambushed in her home, put to sleep in a choke and then beheaded while tied up and awake, all caught on camera and sent to Esteban. The Adelita on screen appeared no longer sane, her eyes having that hint of madness while a malicious grin was pasted on her face. Her life had changed drastically but one truth remained, she lived for targets, now more literal than before.

She struck again, this time in the school parking where her final victim met his fateful end. True to her MO, she choked him and then smashed his head in with a crowbar. Before leaving she sent the video to Local police, challenging them to catch her, but luckily for her 'La Roja' caught up to her and the rebirth began. She rose through the ranks with her tenacity and brutality as she honed her abilities further by learning more submission arts. Trained in guerilla tactics, use of incendiary substances and guns. She quickly became more than a footman for the 'La Roja' and a spiritual successor for Guerrero. With her leading the men, the South was quickly won. The Tigre set it sights on the North.

A territory filled with greedy and treacherous Americans, who were unpredictable compared to their own countrymen. Their greed was much greater and had the habit of backstabbing. Plus, the established order would be hard to uproot. After a great war, the control was swayed. Many of the Americans decided to trust their outfit and saw more profit in it. One of them even promised to tip the scales in their favor, if they agreed to be his guinea pigs for a research he was heading. Reluctantly, many of the footmen were pledged to his cause with Adelita the only one volunteering and as heaven decreed, she was the sole survivor of the experiment. She gained great power after her unending suffering. The power beyond the domain of man, one that treaded on God's domain.

The power to take on hits and grow stronger. The Adelita that emerged was a machine, she didn't have a hint of humanity left as Tigres won a lopsided victory after that. Many rumors of her improbable feats emerged, moving in alone into an enemy stronghold and massacring all of them, have her jaw hit with a jackhammer and still pound the man to death. Be hit by atleast a hundred bullets and still somehow survive, rumors of her grew and thus she became a troublesome pest.
An expendable, once again in her life. So in an ambush that saw everyone of her outfit slain, she was caught and sentenced to 'Safety'. Whether it is her rotten luck or someone else's, it is to be seen. New rivers of blood will flow inside the walls. That. Is a guarantee.

 

Skills/Abilities: CQC, Pain Potential - The severe she is hit, the stronger she gets. Her body altered by a secret experiment stores the feedback from the pulse as well as the energy from the impact and boosts her musculature and internal organs.

At just four years, Zoe had already made it into the local news.

Left in the care of her aunt, she grew up with no real problems for many years, albeit left a bit lonely. At school, no one knew about what she'd done, and no one ever learned. At 10 though, walking home, she came across a near-empty lighter. Literally unable to help herself, she curiously lit some things alight. Such as leaves, her homework. The whole walk home, she burned and she burned. But when she saw an unkempt factory, surrounded by dead, dry grass, she looked up and down the street. Empty. "No one will notice!" she whispered to herself, with far too much enthusiasm.

 

The fire spread ridiculously fast. Instantly surrounded by fire. No, engulfed by fire. Her clothes weren't immune to the fire but she did not care.  She felt more alive than she ever did before. More alive than the night she killed her family. She danced with the fire. The fire followed her. It went where she willed and it appeared where she willed.

 

She left before the fire service appeared.

 

This day set off her little 9 year hobby. Every 6 months, new story in the paper. "Abandoned building burned down, treated as suspicious". Each year the papers, the police, everyone, got more and more suspicious but no one ever found out.

 

One man saw a pattern though, set cameras at likely locations. Oh, he did not expect to return home to screaming sirens and an out of control fire. Burned into the lawn was simply the word "Enjoy!"

 

The fire service was struggling with this fire when another one was reported. Abandoned factory. One truck was sent. Then another fire was reported, and another and another and another, all barely 3 minutes apart. This one man though, sitting in his car, on a whim, checked his cameras. And there she was, dancing in the fire.

 

Freaked out and panicking, he reported this to the police immediately. All available firetrucks and police men and women were sent as soon as possible. Zoe, thinking she was invincible, saw them all, and just stood their smiling. Single shot to the leg, and she was down, fainting from the pain. The fire raged on around her and the factory until finally all was put out.

Backstory:

At a young age, Phoebe realized she could see something that others could not. She could see images coming off of everything at all times. The images would do something, and then the original would soon follow, doing the exact same thing. It didn't take long for her to understand that she was constantly seeing a few moments into the future. It was certainly an interesting ability, but it was actually more of a nuisance than anything else. It didn't help much in her day-to-day life, and all the information she had to process gave her painful headaches nearly every second she was awake. But it was easy enough to deal with.

 

What she couldn't deal with, however, was how her parents were treated by their superiors. They both worked mid-level desk jobs for the Smithson Corporation, and everyday when they came home, she heard a new story about how it's employees were abused and insulted. Eventually, her parents had had enough, and decided to do some digging. Together, they were able to discover that the higher-ups weren't exactly honest people. They found evidence that suggested that the Corporation got a lot of their money through illegal, inhumane methods.

 

Phoebe, being a nosy girl, found out about this by eavesdropping on her parents. That night, her parents left, saying they had an 'errand' to run. She did more snooping around, finding pictures that they had collected depicting the most corrupted of the Smithson businessmen. Despite being worried for her parents, she assured herself they wouldn't do anything dangerous, and went to bed.

 

The next thing she realized, she had a bag over her head and was being handled roughly. Her head thumped dully, and it felt like blood drip down the side of her face. That was all she could process before passing out.

 

When she came to again, she was in a low-ceiling, steel-walled room, tied to a chair with rope. Two armed men were in the room with her, standing near the only door.

 

Panic flooded through her as she came to grips with her situation. One of the men had a quick conversation on a radio, and from it, Phoebe gathered that she was essentially bait to lure her parents in. 

 

She had little idea about what this was all about, but she knew that, for the first time, her life, as well as her parents, were in danger.

 

And that was when she discovered her second 'ability.' The ability to completely lose her mind. She stood up, breaking the rope around her wrists so easily that she forgot it had even been there to begin with. The men's images reacted before they did, and Phoebe learnt how useful her power was in a fight. The images leveled their pistols at her and fired. The real thing soon followed, but Phoebe was already out of the way.

 

As she sprinted towards them, the reality of what she had just accomplished hit her.

 

She could dodge bullets.

 

Killing the men was so unbelievably simple. She ripped one of the men's pistols away, jumped backwards to avoid their telegraphed hits, and shot them both in the chest. They slumped to the ground, and Phoebe felt nothing.

 

No horror, no satisfaction, nothing. She was only trying to survive, and that was enough reason to justify murder.

 

The door's image slid open, revealing multiple armed men ready to shoot her.

 

They were all dead within the minute.

 

Phoebe ran, following her instincts. She climbed multiple flights of stairs, realizing she had been in the basement of the Smithson's Corporation's head office. Which meant she'd find Smithson himself and his lapdogs near the top.

 

She fought her way up countless floors, killing anyone who obstructed her in anyway. The pictures she had seen of those who were involved in Smithson's illegal activities filled her mind, and she killed anyone she recognized from them. 

 

A fifty-some murders later, she realized there was no way she'd get to the top alive. Her future-sight was powerful, but she didn't have eyes in the back of her head. She was barely a quarter of the way up, and was already tiring. Armed guards were quickly surrounding her, and she decided to get out.

 

So she made her way back down, facing considerably less resistance than she had coming up (as most of it was dead). Her head began to clear during this time, and she saw the death and destruction she had caused. She was hit with a tidal-wave of guilt, horror, and disgust.

 

Upon exiting the building and seeing the huge amount of policemen, she simply dropped her weapon and fell to her knees with her hands up, shocked by what she had done.

 

And then she was shipped off to Safety, uncertain about her parent's fates.

Skills/Abilities: Phoebe has an excellent memory and an insanely powerful survival instinct. Whenever she's in danger, her usual weak-willed and soft-spoken personality disappears. She disregards everything other than keeping herself and those she cares for alive. She can see a few moments into the future of every object and person at all times.
Inventory: A lot of nothing.

Backstory: "Umm. I honestly forgot haha! I remember when I was little, I watched all the cartoons. Not some, all. I don't think I slept much either. Then I found out I had powers. I remember an orphanage when I was little. I didn't go to school, Cartoons taught me how the world works. Kinda been living however I want since forever! I have a pretty short term memory!"

 

Skill: That's All Folks!- "Physics? HA HA HA HEE HEE HEE HO HO HO *snorts. I run on cartoon physics baby! Whatsoever is impossible, I make it possible!". Just like she says, Triple A does not follow the laws of our universe. As if guided by the spirits of beloved fallen animators, her powers stem from the silly, zany, and outlandish worlds of cartoons. From anvils on heads, ACME explosives in your bed, and being first to the place you sped; Triple A with her equipment and imagination turn her world into a cartoon backdrop.

Crime: Arson + Murder + Bombing - Burned down the Japanese National Police Agency Headquarters, killing 10. Detonated a bomb in the National Diet building, Killing 45 more. Decapitated over 100 members of the diet before slicing off the head of the Prime Minister. Was a Yakuza assassin. Killed parents when she was 13.

 

Backstory: Before Muramasa arrived to 'Safety', she bore the name 'Tayuya Abe', a name that once struck fear all over Japan. With a hot head and a foul mouth to match, she was always trouble, well mostly. Before her abilities manifested, she was just a gloomy pale child who always kept to herself or at least tried to. Rarely speaking and keeping to herself most of the time, she became a frequent target of abuse. While bullied by other kids, the brunt of it all came from her parents. Her parents, disgusted with how she turned out, always imaging a perfect child who was not only smart and attractivel but actually got out of the house and socialized with others, one they'd marry off and make use of. But nothing exactly goes as one plans and they were stuck with her, instead of the boy they sought to take on the familys name.

 

After under-going years of abuse (and her crys for help going unanswered), 'Tayuya', in a fit of rage, eventually lashed out at them with a knife. Though, she only managed to stab her father in the forearm before getting sent into the wall, dropping the knife. As he picked up the knife and moved closer to her, panic and fear starting sinking in. Eventually her mother managed to come from behind her, holding her down as her father moved in, taunting her. Stopping in front of her, he raised his arm and was about to strike, when in a fit of rage and desperation, she closed her eyes and swiped at him with her legs. While fully expecting to die, after waiting some time, she opened her eyes in shock.

 

Instead of being dead, she was fully alive and not only that, it was her dad that was cut, not her. Looking at where her leg should of been was instead a long blade and her dad frozen in place. Looking down himself, blood gushed out a hole in his gut as he soon dropped to the ground as her mother began screaming. Heart racing face, she got up quickly and tried to run before her mother grabbed the leg that wasn't turned into a blade as Tayuya fell to the ground. Biting her lip, she began feriously kicking her mother in the face, not stopping until she can no longer hear the screams. Gasping for breath as she looked on the corpses of her parents, he leg transformed back to normal. Before she could go through it all in her head and wonder what the hell was going on, she then heard sirens. She ran.

 

 

 

After a few years (at the age of 17) on the run hiding in abandoned buildings and obtaining some control of her ability, with starvation kicking in and left with no choice, she decided to turn to crime. Growing overconfident over a string of petty muggings, she managed to stumble upon a yakuza operation. Though, at the time she had no way of knowing who they were nor what they were dealing, just that it was a big cargo, thinking it had to do with drugs. After sneaking by some of the guards by taking advantage over the yelling, she managed to get close to one of the crates and opened one to snatch whatever was inside. But much to her surprise, it was full of weapons. Hearing some sounds from the neighboring crate, still in shock, Tayuya opened the create only to be left speachless at the sight of the crate being full of children.

 

Before she had time to react, she was surrounded. By turning her arm into a blade, much to their own surprise, she managed to take a number of them out but that proved fruitless as she was shot in the arm and the legs. The damage in the arm wasn't so bad because the transformed arm deflected them but her legs, not transformed, were hit and she was left crawling on the ground as she continued to bleed. While some moved in and went for the killing blow, their leader held them off. With a grin, he signaled what his true intent on what to do with her.

 

 

 

Over the next decade, she managed to gain full control of her ability, using them in employ of the Yakuza, hunting down people that wrong them and want dead. With her star on the rise and her name becoming more known, she would then pull off the stunt that she'd earn the fear of all in Japan and earned her various names, most of which including 'Demon', which was the day she crippled/took out the japanese government. Planning it for months, she managed to infiltrate a big meeting at the National Diet Building, in which Prime Minister Shougo Amakusa was to intend. She would then place several c4 charges, after getting a safe distance away, she detonated the charges, killing 45 people. Using the panic and chaos as a distraction she went after the fleeing diet members, who were convientely running behind the Prime Minister. Decapitation the fleeing diet members, she managed to trap and behead the Prime Minister and made her way to the extraction point.

 

Though, when she got there, her contacts were nowhere to be found. Abandoned as helicopters came from overhead and the police on ground, she took off running for dear life only to, ironically enough, have her legs taken out. Surrounded, she was taken into custody, not before being heavily drugged and bound to where she was transported to 'Safety'. Giving up her name, considering her ability and the fact she has been called a demon, she adopted the moniker 'Muramasa'. She thought it was appropiate enough.

 

Skills/Abilities:

Human Weapon - Has the ability of turning her limbs into steel blades at will. Which can also serve as a shield, though they can only protect so much.

Close Quarter Combat - While not knowing any fancy martial art, Torch is a street brawler. With her ability to turn her limbs into blades, Close combat is the way to go (and only way).

I don't have any memories of creating the world or anything but you know how do I know it even existed before I came around? Think about that for a second.  I mean there's all this talk about the history of the world but I have no reason to accept it happened.  You know, what if everyone and everything only came into existence at the moment that I willed myself into being?  All the truths of this world you all hold inherently true are just fabrications to smooth the perpetuation of this existence.  This world and everyone in it exists as long as I wish it to and the moment that stops it would cease.

 

I'm not crazy. Really, I'm not.  I have powers which are beyond replication much less comprehension.  I've always had it.  Why?  Well, because I'm God.  See.  We are back where we started.  I can't prove it but I don't need to.  Those in Safety will come to understand the truth of it in time.  If you don't you can at least enjoy the show.

I dont even know why they put me in jail, I never done nothing wrong. Since when was spring cleaning a crime. Not my fault that wrecking some silly fools who decided to paint shit over my walls is illegal! Ya have to teach these people the hard way. Its the only language they understand , ya see. Not everyone has ma intellectual capacity, unfortunately.

 

Ma momma told me that even when I was a little fellow, I had a good head on ma shoulders. As you can tell ma momma is the queen of understatement. I made my first doohickie when I was five. Just seen Ultraman ya see. So what do I do, I go about making some Power Juice, pretty rad stuff it was. But ma momma called me up for dinner. When I got back, Jimbonator had already gone and drank ma Power Juice.

 

Whats a five year old supposed ta do with a six foot monkey? Ya ask, why hit him with a hypno beam, Bam! Well ever since then Jimbonator could grow into six feet when ever he wanted, guess why I never had bullies, heh.

 

When I was fifteen, I spent my first time in jail, ya see I just made my Groove Box for the first time, and wanted to show it to everybody. Ya know how teenagers are, we gotta be the center of attention. Well the Groove Box, was little too loud, kinda demolished a few buildings. No one got hurt though, so it shoulda been fine.

 

Yah see the pattern I hope, most of the time its not my fault, just a bit of a misunderstanding. The others its just a bit of a mistake, no one ever got hurt… much. Course this time it was intentional, and completely warranted , yah see! I even tried to be nice first, but they just wouldnt listen!

Crime: The Tragedy of Providence: A lovely evening in Providence, wherein some 264 civilians and officers welcomed me back with open minds.

 

Backstory: The most merciful thing in the world, I think, is the inability of the human mind to correlate all its contents. We live on a placid island of ignorance in the midst of black seas of infinity, and it was not meant that we should voyage far. The sciences, each straining in its own direction, have hitherto harmed us little; but some day the piecing together of dissociated knowledge will open up such terrifying vistas of reality, and of our frightful position therein, that we shall either go mad from the revelation or flee from the deadly light into the peace and safety of a new dark age. I was but a boy when I first found myself upon that precipice, staring into the gloomy eyes of the abyss beyond. Then, I had not the strength to hold its gaze. It was in only in the eve of my life that I solidified my resolve to stare it rightly in the face once again, forgoing the flirtatious glimpses I had cast it for so long.

 

By all accounts I perished in March of 1937, leaving behind a macabre collection of illustrations, poetry, and dire scripts much like the many characters I have penned through my years. Perhaps my gaze lingered longer on the abyss than I led myself to believe during my natural life. It was those same haunted shores and despondent plains that I walked  within my mind while my body turned foul within the earth. It was rightly a hell that I could only imagine. Within that nothing were the vague, horrible things I had peddled for sustenance, made flesh before my gaze, terrible and indifferent.

 

I cannot say for how long I walked those endless depths of darkness, nor how it ended. I only awoke to the smell of age old decay and musty dirt. I was in my coffin, a setting I found to be exquisitely droll. The effort of extricating myself from my confines was minimal, a pleasant surprise. However, the state of Providence was not so pleasant a surprise. Greedily onward had marched the ascent of man and science, dragging the world with it into a new era. Garish lights and a phantasmagoria of sounds and smells to assault the senses, an orgy of excess and desire, blindly searching out and consuming. It was repulsively beautiful. The joy of ignorance and self-absorption, shining around me like a jewel.

 

However, it was a delicate jewel, one I was no longer allowed to touch lest I destroy it, much like the jewel that was Providence. At first, I wished to further explore my new surroundings, however I quickly drew the attention of the citizens that now occupied my former hometown. My form terrified them, disgusted them. That wasn't a proper greeting, I was hardly the most terrible of beings to look upon, I just had to show that to them. So I touched their minds with my limbs and showed them the context of what they saw. This is the reason I was asked to come to this place, this Safety. Perhaps someone there will wish to see the context.

Backstory: Since birth, Silas' grandfather had doted on him. He was, after all, the hope of the family. While other children were playing baseball, Silas was practicing his kick. When the high school students were partying, Silas would be testing his breathing techniques. His upbringing had brought out all the potential stored within his body. Silas was everything his grandfather wanted... and more.

 

Silas was much, much more.

 

At the age of 17, Silas was already to perform every martial art that his grandfather could perform. It was the turning point of the martial art.

 

As a relatively young martial art created in the 1900s, it even lacked a proper name. For the founder of the martial art, Silas' grandfather, it was a blessing. Originally created as a form of assassination during the civil unrest in Greece, it was martial art specializing in killing techniques. A talent like Silas rarely showed up. Silas was the ticket to becoming one of the most well known martial arts.

 

But he still lacked.

 

Silas' grandfather understood the weakness of the young man. His killing intent, his drive to kill or be killed had been dulled. The answer his grandfather found was a duel. On Silas' 19th birthday his grandfather challenged him. It was clearly a case of self defense, but the government didn't agree. 

 

Silas murders his grandfather.

 

Without taking no for an answer, Silas' grandfather charged. Reflex and instinct alone kicked in. There was no choice but to fight. It was over in a moment. After a quick exchange of blows and deflections Silas had struck his grandfathers throat. It was over as quickly as that. In seconds his entire life had changed. The news of this martial arts master being taken down by a young man spread. Foe after foe hunted this "Greek" for a chance to do battle and time after time they failed.

 

It was almost like a myth. A young man would defeat the martial artists and disappear without a trace. It wasn't until a particularly bloody battle that he was apprehended. It spilled out into the street and the authorities arrived. Silas was never the one to start the fights, and he sure as hell wasn't prepared to go against the government. The young master submitted and was to be sent to prison. Perhaps his grandfather's dream would be fulfilled through the death games...

 

Skills/Abilities: 

• Absence of Presence - An ability passed down through his family's genes. A simple ability to erase one's presence. When activated, Silas fades into the background. Opponents completely forget his presence and in that moment he strikes.
• Master Martial Artist - The simple act of being an incredible hand to hand fighter. Silas' body is flexible beyond belief and allows him to perform amazing feats. His own fighting style relies on defensive maneuvers and taking advantage of a single moment's weakness to strike his enemy down.

Backstory: MI5, KGB, CIA... all the letters really. You name it and he was with them, until they figured out he was playing them all off against each other. While they were busy trying to one up each other he was out there commiting all sorts of crimes. He was selling various countrys secrets, blackmailing, stealing government property, murdering, selling things on the black market, all the really fun stuff. You see, they had all known he was a double agent, he made no secret of it and that turned out to be the best cover he could have made. Because they also thought that they were the ones he really worked for, and that he was lying to everyone else. In actual fact he was working for himself. Working towards his goals and building a network of people, a large, powerful collection of people from around the world. And then he'd be able to infuence things on a global scale. He'd be able to shape the world as he liked. And he had big plans for it.

As you can imagine they governments and groups he'd betrayed weren't very happy about all of that. The world-wide organization he was creating suddenly vanished, and a world-wide manhunt began. He evaded capture for a good year or so before he finally got bored of running. He'd racked up quite the list of criminal activities in his time on the run. Not to mention all the treason. Basically, when he turned himself in, nobody in the entire world would have been surprised that he was shipped off straight to Safety. Though there may have been a few who were surprised he wasn't shot in the face for 'resisting' arrest.
Skills/Abilities: As you would expect, since he was working for everyone, Mrs Black got the best training from anyone he wanted when he asked for it. If he wanted the best knife fighting training in the world, he simply approached the right government and asked for it. His skills had no match in the world of espionage, and his willingness to go one step further than others dared made him one of the most terrifying presences a fellow spy could encounter. Until they met him most of his contacts ahd thought Mrs Black didn't really exist. Because of all the stories from his long history as a spy, most people assume he has some sort of crazy power. He doesn't.

Backstory: My story before being sent to Safety? Hmm. I guess it all originates from the fact that I was what others would call a NEET; you know, a person who isn't in education, employment, or training. Well, to be fair, those things weren't really my thing. If you asked me what I think I was good at, I'd definitely say gaming without a hint of hesitation; been at it since I was a kid.

 

A few years back, I sort of invested all my time into video games; I wanted to make a career out of it so sacrifices had to be made. One of which was me dropping out of university and spending all the money I had saved up on a bunch of games, a few consoles, and an epic gaming system. My folks and siblings weren't all that happy about it, but they never really got me. Anyway, I spent a couple of years trying to realize my dream of being a professional gamer, but it was harder than I thought. Eventually, I figured that I was just wasting my time and ended up just giving up. I still wanted to play games though.

 

So yeah, I planned to mooch off my folk's cash and just spend my days locked up in my room; you know, as an almighty online gaming god. Sadly, things never go according to plan. My family and some of my closest friends orchestrated an intervention, saying that I had a problem or something. Long story short, they gave me two choices, give up my games and start living as a responsible adult or get kicked out of my house and be shunned by everyone I knew. Obviously, I chose the latter. No biggie. At least I got to keep my gaming stuff though. 

 

I spent the next few weeks living in an abandoned apartment complex, it was scheduled to be demolished and had pests of all kind, but at least the rent was free. Anyway, as I was trying to rewire the circuitry around my place hoping to get some good old electricity, a creepy old man suddenly appeared beside me. He fucking gave me a heart attack and started spouting shit about being the god of gamers or something. He said that my level of addiction was like nothing he had ever seen before. Although sad, it was noteworthy and definitely warranted a reward. Not sure why I was expecting something from that hobo of a man, but I had hope for a ton of money or something quite similar to that. But no, my guess was way far from what I actually got. 

 

I was granted the ability to mimic anything from the games I've played. At least that's what he told me. So, like any other sane person, I didn't believe the geezer and tossed him out, but soon after actually trying it out, I was genuinely surprised to find out that he was telling the truth. So yeah, I was a young man with god-like abilities and according to most, my decisions in life were no where near being logical or sensible. You can probably guess what I did next. Well, I suppose I could give you a clue.

 

Remember last year, those months with the series of disasters that happened all across the globe. Well, that was me.
