Chapter 1 – The Lucky Ones

The prison transport shook violently. A storm was brewing outside. In spite of that, and the fact that he was carrying a box filled with some of the most dangerous men on the planet, the driver whistled cheerfully. The tune vaguely resembled “yankee doodle” though it became very obvious after hours of whistling that the man was completely tone deaf. If he knew it though, he didn’t seem to care. It was very possible that after years on the job, the old man was cracked.

“Shut up old man,” growled one of the prisoners. He probably had a name before, but at that very moment in time he was Prisoner 547. He was a behemoth of a man really; though it was hard to tell while he was sitting down he couldn’t have been shorter than 7 feet of muscle and grit.

It didn’t deter the old driver in the slightest though, who only cackled and said, “Yer gonna hafta change that attitude to go where yer goin’ sonny. Learn ta look on the bright side o’ things.”

The transport shuddered again, more violently than before. Either it had been struck by lightning or ran over a land mine. Either way it was miraculous that the rickety looking vehicle had survived such heavy impact.

Even bound by a heavy steel collar and handcuffs, Prisoner 547’s glare was intimidating enough that those sitting near him shifted away and took a sudden deep interest in the transport’s ceiling.

“Aw c’mon now don’t be like that. Ah always say, if ye gots a smile for breakfast, ye’ll be shittin’ joy by lunch. Ah! We’re here, lovelies!” the old driver turned around and the prisoners managed to get their first look at him. To say he was old and ugly didn’t quite do it justice. He couldn’t have been a day younger than ninety. Everything from his baggy wrinkled skin to his pale dead eye made them wonder how such a decrepit existence was still alive and kicking. The back of the transport opened up and they were blinded by a piercing white light.

“Remember lovelies, ye should laugh every moment ye live as ye’ll find it decidedly difficult afterwards.” He flipped a small switch at the front of the vehicle and a moment later Prisoner 547 collapsed forward, dead as nails.

“See what ah mean?” The driver gave them one last cheerful farewell and the gates closed behind them. The rest of them would quickly realize that Prisoner 547 was one of the lucky ones.

There exists a prison at the edge of the world; an inescapable towering bastille of steel and darkness. The inmates are deadly assassins, mass murderers, scientific masterminds, insurgent leaders, and other dangerous individuals sentenced for committing the most heinous of crimes. They call it Safety.

For the prisoners, it certainly wasn’t because the place kept them safe. They were trapped in an enormous steel cage, safe from neither the wrath of the prison’s guards or each other. After much (bloody) debate, they eventually decided it was called Safety because it kept the rest of the world safe from them. That much was certainly true. The most senior of them had been there for fifty years and though he had witnessed countless escape attempts, though none succeeded.

It’s a dog eat dog world. Though in Safety it was more like wolf eat dog eat dog. Or bear eat wolf eat dog eat dog. You get the point.

Cell Blocks – Prison cells take up most the space on the island. Safety is home to nearly a thousand inmates, each and every one of them a dangerous hardened criminal.

The Yard – One of the few luxuries the inmates still have. Here they can spend their credits on goods like cigarettes or books, or socialize with one another. Though, more often than not, “socializing” in Safety leads to blood and grudges.

Mess Hall – Even dogs have to eat. Because it’s less supervised, mealtimes are the best time to meet and exchange goods or information away from the attention of the prison guards.

The Arena – Though some special death games may take place outside the island, here is where the majority of the Death Games are played.

Solitary – A place you don’t want to be in. Trust me.

The Infirmary – More of a butcher house than a place of medicine, you may end up here to get some quick patching up after a death game or as an unfortunate test subject for the island’s mad doctor

The Barracks – You won’t ever get to see it, but this is where the prison guards are housed. They probably have better food. And b*tches. 

Things to Know

Death Games – Bloody spectator sports hosted once a day where the prisoners fight for their survival. This is the fastest and most efficient way of attaining credits, though it’s also the fastest way to a grizzly death.

Credits – A sort of currency system used by the prisoners. Credits are mostly attained from surviving Death Games, though they can also be traded amongst each other for goods or favors. Credits can also be obtained from rich benefactors who enjoy your performances in the games, so being flashy or charismatic helps. Including what’s needed for food, the cost of survival is around 50 credits per day.

The 10 Kings – The current top 10 ranked prisoners at Safety. Because each of them required so many points, most of them have retired from playing in the games. It’s rumored that even the guards don’t mess with them.

Groups

Spoiler

Prison Guards – though the gangs are tough, even they don’t dare mess with the prison enforcers. They are the absolute authority in Safety under the warden and going against them means a swift death. Or sometimes a not so swift death.

The Bloodhounds – The largest and most influential gang in Safety. Their leader, Red is a member of the 10 Kings and not a man you want to get on the wrong side of. Though they are violent and vindictive, the Bloodhounds are relatively reasonable and probably won’t attack you without a reason.
 
The Brotherhood – The rival gang to the Bloodhounds and a veritable collection of murderous psychopaths. They could be called the greater of two evils and their actions are unpredictable and often extreme. Would be in your best interest to just stay clear of their path entirely.

The Hive – A small gang of women lead by Queen, a member of the 10 Kings (don’t point out the irony to her). The gang provides a safe place for women inmates, so long as they give their allegiance to the Queen.

The Rat Pack – though most are weak individually, the Rat Pack provide an important service to the prison inmates. They are more a network than a gang, and are the ones you should see should you want to attain vital information or illegal contraband. Their services don’t come cheap though.
 
Royals – more of a general term than an actual organization, royals are inmates who have culminated enough points from the Death Games to live comfortably within Safety. They're generally very influential within the prison and very dangerous.

The Resistance – the smallest group in the prison and the only ones who actually believe they can escape Safety. Most of their members meet a gruesome death after being discovered by the guards, but there are always a few lurking around.

Do amount and/or strength of the skills/abilities correspond with the amount of credits used? Or is the credits a seperate thing from them entirely? And is there a certain limit to the amount of skill/abilities? I know you said go wild but Just wanted to make sure.

Also wasn't sure if there was a limit on the kind of abilities, whether some weren't allowed or not. As well as the amount of abilities/skills.

I clearly mention what the credits are for in one of the sections though. There's no limit to abilities as long as it's reasonable and fits in with your characters backstory.

At just four years, Zoe had already made it into the local news.

Left in the care of her aunt, she grew up with no real problems for many years, albeit left a bit lonely. At school, no one knew about what she'd done, and no one ever learned. At 10 though, walking home, she came across a near-empty lighter. Literally unable to help herself, she curiously lit some things alight. Such as leaves, her homework. The whole walk home, she burned and she burned. But when she saw an unkempt factory, surrounded by dead, dry grass, she looked up and down the street. Empty. "No one will notice!" she whispered to herself, with far too much enthusiasm.

 

The fire spread ridiculously fast. Instantly surrounded by fire. No, engulfed by fire. Her clothes weren't immune to the fire but she did not care.  She felt more alive than she ever did before. More alive than the night she killed her family. She danced with the fire. The fire followed her. It went where she willed and it appeared where she willed.

 

She left before the fire service appeared.

 

This day set off her little 9 year hobby. Every 6 months, new story in the paper. "Abandoned building burned down, treated as suspicious". Each year the papers, the police, everyone, got more and more suspicious but no one ever found out.

 

One man saw a pattern though, set cameras at likely locations. Oh, he did not expect to return home to screaming sirens and an out of control fire. Burned into the lawn was simply the word "Enjoy!"

 

The fire service was struggling with this fire when another one was reported. Abandoned factory. One truck was sent. Then another fire was reported, and another and another and another, all barely 3 minutes apart. This one man though, sitting in his car, on a whim, checked his cameras. And there she was, dancing in the fire.

 

Freaked out and panicking, he reported this to the police immediately. All available firetrucks and police men and women were sent as soon as possible. Zoe, thinking she was invincible, saw them all, and just stood their smiling. Single shot to the leg, and she was down, fainting from the pain. The fire raged on around her and the factory until finally all was put out.

 

Skills/Abilities

Pyro. Immune to fire and can start them just by thinking about them. (can only start them where she can see though.)

Crime: 84 counts of Arson, Drug Manufaturing, 26 counts of Drug Trafficking, 14 counts of Voluntary Manslaughter, 184 counts of First Degree Murder, 21 counts of Human trafficking, RICO

Backstory: Adelita's life has been a race, a race against herself, One target at a time. Born to two teachers in Cancun, Adelita from a very young age was encouraged to pursue her passions and her own targets. They were juvenile at first, a new dress, a new bike, a pair of shoes etc. They became adolescent as time passed, to get a boyfriend, to be good at sports, to ace the tests etc. At 17, she was the apple of everyone's eye. Shortlisted in the Medal hopefuls for Mexico at the coming Olympics and #1 in her category in freestyle wrestling in the whole central America, life was looking good.

But they say, Life is cruel;very cruel in her case. For in a space of 2 weeks her life was blown to pieces. You ride the crests like a rodeo and brace yourself for the fall but what do you expect of a child barely making out of adolescence and with the world at her feet; her fall was particularly hard. The impact jarred her and changed her completely. Out went the budding newcomer, pegged to take the world by storm and in her place was a devasted husk maddened by her trauma.

It started with a trivial incident, well considering the magnitude of what happened afterwards. Her boyfriend of two years, the idol of girls everywhere in town, Esteban Gutierrez cheated on her with Gloria Rodriguez - the ace b*tch of the town. Rich, vain and a man-eater, she was the cause of many broken relationships as she'll snare away the men by her looks, get them hooked and then dump them after she had had her fun. Needless to say, for Adelita, it was like her world falling apart. She was heartbroken and out of zone, so life decided to drive home its point by kicking her in the 'proverbial nuts' with her coach trying to sexually assault her in the guise of helping her find her focus. Fear like a cold blade siezed her heart, it was only her instincts that somehow helped her escape but she would not leave out of it alive; atleast her sanity won't.

Realising that his career will be off-track if she blurted out to anyone, her coach called in a favor with his friends. To teach the girl a lesson in silence, but men like those deal with things a bit differently. She was cooped up in her room, a crying mess, when she heard the commotion downstairs. Her parents, great conversationalists and arguers, never stood a chance in front of men who used guns and axes to argue. With blood curling screams she was urged to flee as she shut her ears and made out of the window. The group searched for her like bloodhounds but couldn't manage to find her. She realised that now she was expendable, her death would be seen as untimely and tragic but nothing more.

Vowing vengeance, she took to shadows. If this was how she finished, she may as well take down that bastard with her. For days she stalked him, biding her time from the shadows until a chance presented itself. She seized the initiative with both hands and legs, twisted his head around to unnatural angles as she slowly constricted him. Though dead, he gave her no satisfaction, it needed something more, something that would calm the red tide rising inside. So she took a stone from the sidewalk and bashed his head until only splattered goo remained.

The follow-up by the local media sent waves all over. It got the authorities as well as others interested. One of them Magdelina Guerrero, leader of 'La Roja'. The enforcer wing of 'El Tigre Blanco' drug cartel. She was interested in who offed Eduard Gonzalvez, knwon in the cartel circles as 'the Pit Viper'. Though she stuck to shadows on her revenge run, she came to light shortly after. Bringing her bloody justice to those she felt had wronged her. Next on the list was Gloria who was ambushed in her home, put to sleep in a choke and then beheaded while tied up and awake, all caught on camera and sent to Esteban. The Adelita on screen appeared no longer sane, her eyes having that hint of madness while a malicious grin was pasted on her face. Her life had changed drastically but one truth remained, she lived for targets, now more literal than before.

She struck again, this time in the school parking where her final victim met his fateful end. True to her MO, she choked him and then smashed his head in with a crowbar. Before leaving she sent the video to Local police, challenging them to catch her, but luckily for her 'La Roja' caught up to her and the rebirth began. She rose through the ranks for her tenacity and brutality as she honed her abilities further by learning more submission arts. Trained in guerilla tactics, use of incidiory substances and guns. She quickly became more than a footmen for the 'La Roja' and a spiritual successor for Guerrero. With her leading the men, the South was quickly won. The Tigre set it sights on the North.

A territory filled with greedy and treacherous Americans, who were unpredictable compared to their own countrymen. Their greed was much greater and had the habit of backstabbing. Plus, the established order would be hard to uproot. After a great war, the control was swayed. Many of the Americans decided to trust their outfit and saw more profit in it. One of them even promised to tip the scales in their favor, if they agreed to be his guinea pigs for a research he was heading. Reluctantly, many of the footmen were pledged to his cause with Adelita the only one volunteering and as heaven decreed, she was the sole survivor of the experiment. She gained great power after her unending suffering. The power beyond the domain of man, one that treaded on God's domain.

The power to take on hits and grow stronger. The Adelita that emerged was a machine, she didn't have a hint of humanity left as Tigres won a lopsided victory after that. Many rumors of her improbable feats emerged, moving in alone into an enemy stronghold and massacring all of them, have her jaw hit with a jackhammer and still pound the man to death. Be hit by atleast a hundred bullets and still somehow survive, rumors of her grew and thus she became a troublesome pest.
An expendable, once again in her life. So in an ambush that saw everyone of her outfit slain, she was caught and sentenced to 'Safety'. Whether it is her rotten luck or someone else's, it is to be seen. New rivers of blood will flow inside the walls. That. Is a guarantee.

 

Skills/Abilities: CQC, Pain Potential - The severe she is hit, the stronger she gets. Her body altered by a secret experiment stores the feedback from the pulse as well as the energy from the impact and boosts her musculature and internal organs.

First of all, I don't want to be that guy, but it would be nice if you formatted it to look a little nicer. Bold the headers and provide spacing between paragraphs in your backstory. The backstory itself checks out, though you might want to note that this RP has a bit of a sci-fi/fantasy element to it. Seeing as procuring fire starting equipment in prison would be difficult you might want to consider giving your character pyrokinesis or something like that and fitting it into your backstory (Just a suggestion). While arson is a serious crime, being an arsonist alone probably wouldn't qualify you to be sent to a prison full of freaks and monsters.

MakaMaka is going for the pyrokinesis bit and I really don't like sharing an ability, so I'm picking a different element lol. Thought might keep the arson thing, just need to add on to it.
