A stupid question: can you upload from a Mediafire link? Has anyone tried? Cos my upload speed sucks and meh, upgrading won't really improve that by much since my country sorta caps UL limits.

Yes, this does work. You have to first click the main mediafire link, wait for it to say "Processing..." then right click and 'save as' the link that appears there.
(Also, tofu, I split this off from the tutorial)

The same trick trebor mentioned also works for few others like megaupload.
But slightly deviating, instead of "save as", click "copy link location". It's lot easier and if you start downloading once, some sharing websites will invalidate that link.
