I seriously didn't liked Toradora at all. Some reasons:

1 - Taiga has a very poor development through the whole story.

2 - They way she confesses her feelings is terrible.

3 - I believe that they could have done a better job with Minorin. I think that she had more potential as a character.

I'm asking this, because all my friends love Toradora >_>

I personally liked Toradora but I can see what you mean to some extent.
1) I'll admit that Taiga's development throughout the series wasn't the greatest but it wasn't very poor.

2) I don't remember how she confesses? I think it had something to do with falling into a river and a marriage proposal? From what I can remember, it was pretty weird.
3) I can see what you mean but no, I don't agree. Also, Tsundere > Deredere.

Toradora is a very good anime... At least, that's what I thought in the past. But after watching many, many anime, I kinda agree with you that it's overrated. On the part about minorin, I have to agree with Lauk: Minorin was a poor character (of course, my opinion). I think she's better off as a side character.

But overall, Toradora's still a nice anime.

well,

I took me a while to understand the story line of Toradora,

it has a HUGE love triangle (rectangle maybe) and I also agree with you that confesses are terrible (maybe because she is a tsundere)

but overall I loved the story line of it ;3

As I always say whenever someone talks about character/plot development in a series based on light novels: Read the light novels. Lots of stuff was left out of the anime/manga by necessity.

Toradora was a particularly well-known and well-done transition from light novel to anime, but at the end of the day it was forced to cut out interesting material by the limitations of episode length. I fell in love with it when I first watched it, and honestly I still love it after all this time. But you're definitely right, Minorin was underdeveloped. And Taiga's confession was awkward, but hey, what are you expecting from a socially/emotionally awkward tsundere? Some kind of beautiful, honest expression of emotion? Tsundere confessions are awkward and short even in the best of times.

As for Taiga's development... again, consult novels. Even there it wasn't super focused, but it was better to read.

For me, yes, you're the only one who thinks Toradora is overrated.

Toradora is one of the extremely rare few romance stories that does not rely on stupid ecchi, thousand "we had a fight we love each other again oh we're broke up again" and what not bullshit.

Toradora has taste, they ACTUALY behave like a bunch of highschoolers and not genious masterminds (meaning they do stupid things and awkward things just like any other teen). Most importantly, it follows up on that relationship, it doesn't stay a "ah well, lets leave it at a love triangle so everyone is happy". No, Toradora make Taiga and Ryuuji into an official couple, no intrusions, no "but I love her as well", no bullshit.

Toradora is tasteful, down the earth, fun and entertaining romance anime/LN, and in my opinion one of the best because it does so many things right.

Character development, character development... do you really always want characters to completely change, to always get completely fleshed out.

These characters already have their personalities and quirks and preferences, there's no need for major character development. Something new learned here and there, but Toradora isn't character development, it's a story about the characters who already developed. Nothing much with them needs to be developed, they work wonderful as they are.

toradora was nice, but it wasn't perfect, and it really dragged on. plus the ending seemed way too rushed, and more than just a bit random for my tastes. with romance being the focus of the series, the plotline seemed a bit too drifty. so yes, it is kinda overrated, at least by its fandom. most people know better.

I did not like Toradora before too, until I read the LN. As what roady mentioned, there is more in LN. However, I guess it's already personal in my part that i still disliked Taiga and her tsundere tendencies. But it won't take my appreciation as to how lovely the whole Toradora story is.

Toradora is, it's light, it doesn't fall to "maids" and what not, it doesn't relly on fanservice and they don't have the couples go "how could you do this, bwaaaa I hate you""and then they make up" every episode .

You people want too much out of it and it's your own fault you think it's overrated. Toradora does what it does wonderfuly and it doesn't try to be what it is not.

I remember watching Toradora when it first came out like 4-5 years ago and ended up dropping it after 8 episodes (not actually sure how many eps but it was recorded in my profile on myanimelist, so). To be honest, I'm not that sure what made me decide to drop it because back then I was such a shoujo lover that I would watch literally EVERY shoujo anime and read EVERY shoujo manga that I could find. LOL. But anyway, thinking about it now, I never did like the female protagonist. Her tsundere trait is over the top and I believe I got tired of the relationship between her and the male protagonist (like how she always beats him up or whatever. can't remember much).

I might consider watching it again, however. Because that's all I've been doing lately (rewatching animes I've seen before and see if I would still like it and trying to watch animes I've dropped to see if I wouldchange my mind about it).

Way to bump a dead thread. But anyway, on topic:

I agree that Toradora is overrated, except in my opinion it's only by a tiny bit.
The series is a refreshing alternative to the usual crappy ecchi/harem romcom/dramatic shoujo, we can't deny that...
sure it has its flaws, but overall it tops many other romance series. And unlike some people above have stated, the love polygon isn't that complicated or frustrating.

Let's say it deserves to be seen, not to be fangasmed all over :>

I didn't dislike Toradora, I can't exactly give you a reason why I liked it.

Of course it isn't one of my most favorite anime, but well it still made its job, it delivered a good story, made me care or get angry towards certain characters, root for a certain character and overall entertain me.

However I'm not exactly fond of reading LN's so if I judge merely by the anime. Yes it was a bit lacking which is logic considering the fact that they crammed so many novels into a 24 episode anime.

But in the end I still believe overrated is way too much, it did do what a good anime is supposed to do, and considering the evergrowing cliche'd highschool (with bipolar maquiavelic-politicians for students) romantic-comedy anime that are running amok that alone is very commendable...

But well, in the end it is all about likes and dislikes mate, I can't really blame you for thinking what you think, if you list the anime you like, you'll find people who dislike it so much as to call it overrated, no matter what anime it is.

To me Toradora is a typical love triangle with stereotypical anime personality types thrown into it. I do enjoy watching the anime cause of the shenanigans the guys get up to (and cause i like SOL caus i have no life), as well as it's cute charm. However, for a romance anime it's sits about average for me.

1) Keeping Taiga's Personality type in consideration, It's hard to really develop a "Tsundere" type character. Just look at Louise from Zero no tsukaima, 3 seasons and virtually the same, just most accepting of her feelings. Taiga is the same, only with a minor changes.

2) what can you expect... it's her personality type...

3) I think Minorin was made the way she is to act as a foil to Taiga and Ryuugi's relationship. If Minorin was the main protagonist of the relation, sure she could be better.
