Hello all, this is the [Out of Character] thread for the D.I.C.E. RP. Character Sheets, OoC chatter, rules, questions, and discussion should be put here.

• PG-13. Romance is acceptable, and X has been known to be a match-maker, but keep the bedroom door closed. Gore, on the other hand, is welcomed. Blood for the blood god!
• Maintain the post order. When posting with a group, make sure to give everyone a chance to post. Post a maximum of two times for each post of the slower RP'ers, any more and you'll be warned.
• Post at least once a week, and at least a paragraph. More is ideal, but obey rule #3.
• Battles between RP'ers has a strict limit of 5 posts each. Battles can be a nice addition to an RP, but tend to go on forever when combatants are evenly matched. When the post cap is reached, RP'ers should talk in the OoC thread about a way to end the conflict neutrally. Note that in the case of a person defending something, such as a door or an object, the defender is considered the 'winner.' I'll be the judge in a dispute.

A note on creating your character, and the setting.

I like freedom, so you can make a character into whatever you wish. You can be an elementary student who found a dice in a toy shop, or an old fisherman with ties to organized crime who found a dice in the pockets of a body he was told to dump into the ocean. The only character I'll reject is someone in a seat of established power, such as the mayor of Batotonia, the Police Chief, or the billionaire CEO of Batotonia Potatonia.
 
Batotonia is a small island, and you live on the east or west side of the Otoba river, either in the city itself, the suburbs on the outskirts of the city, or on a farmhouse in the boonies. Generally, East City is more prosperous, with newer buildings, better paying jobs, and more expensive living spaces. West City has roughly the same amount of people, but older, cheaper, shorter buildings, less expensive shops and lower salaries. The bridge connecting East and West has a heavy toll, and residents of East city don't have to pay it.
 

Attribute Sheets will go here when I'm good and ready. At the moment, noone has earned any dice to spend, so this doesn't matter.
 
Rules regarding increasing Intelligence

Increasing Intelligence seems to be a common choice, but its left rather vague in the webtoon. As such, I'd like to create my own rules, open to discussion, regarding increasing Intelligence with dice.
 
When a Dicer wishes to increase their Intelligence, they must first specify what they wish to know. (Ex. 1)  X can teach general knowledge, but not specific things. (Ex. 2) A Dicer may increase their memory or calculation skills just like any other attributes.

•  
• A Dicer who wants to ace an Algebra test would ask X to increase his knowledge of "Algebra."
• A Dicer can ask how to crack safes, but he cannot ask for the specific password to a safe.

Since it's based on a webtoon, should we read the comic first?

I do recommend the webtoon, yes. It's not very long yet and it's well drawn, even if the story and characters are still a bit plain. 

 

The basic premise is that a mysterious being named "X" gives a Dicer "quests" to obtain "Dice." A Dicer activates the dice to raise their strength, agility, and so on. The quests given vary based on the dicer, and some are morally questionable. A firefighter, for instance, might be given a quest to start a fire, just for the irony.

 

There are specific rules that I plan on adding to the OP when I'm feeling a bit less lazy. I'll also add a section explaining everything you can use dice for. Since the RP takes place in a separate universe from the webtoon, its not necessary to read it to join.

Write an interesting character and the story will follow suit easily enough. I especially like when people write characters with a plan of what they want the character to become. If you PM me, I can help you out with that. That said, I appreciate blood and gore more than I do romance, so if you're asking for a soulmate and a "happily-ever-after" ending... well, the course of true love never did run smooth...

I'd be happy to help with stats & the like, though unfortunately as far as maps go, my computer graphics skills could use a few dice ⊙﹏⊙


My view on attributes is that it'd be a lot easier, rather than compiling a list of every reasonable way to spend points, to completely leave 'personal' attributes (height, wealth appearence etc.) to IC desriptions, start the Attribute Sheets with the just basic physical stats that'll be used in nearly any battle (something like Strength, Endurance, Agility, Flexibility [I include this since the Webtoon does, but it seems less than necessary (>.>) ], Reflexes, Stamina & perhaps Regeneration? I'm really not sure what Energy is supposed to be, Google Translate says the original text means 'Vitality', but it also gives me nonesense for the original text of 'Endurance' ~.~), & add extra stats from there individually as each character (w/ GM approval) starts to spend on them, emulating the sort of system seen in the webtoon.

I like the idea of freedom with attributes. Be as creative as you like with them, and I'll just judge costs fairly. (Or unfairly, if it makes things more interesting, since that's what X likes >=D ) 

 

I'll list a few basic attributes for fighting, probably only three: Strength, Endurance, and Agility. That way people can have plenty of dice to spend on funner things, like amplified hearing, macroscopic vision, the works. Superhuman abilities will have to be put on hold however, until the webtoon explains how they're used.

 

As for attribute sheets, I'll take care of them myself. When I was looking at the numbers, it's difficult for me to tell exactly what 100 dice in strength do compared to 50 dice in endurance, so I think I'll use words and colors in addition to numbers in sheets to better show a character's strengths.

 

It's great that a few people are interested, but it amounts to nothing if you don't put up a character sheet. I'll be starting as soon as I've approved two sheets, so make your character quick and get a head start on collecting dice! =) I added a brief note about the setting and what kind of characters I expect, feel free to read it before you start your character sheet,

Appearance: Untidy, short brown hair, above average height, very overweight, & wears glasses.
Personality: Rae is intelligent & personable, but rather meek, which in the past led to him regularly being picked on. He is a bit weak willed, but compensates by being naturally cool headed.
Occupation: West Batotonia Central High School student/NEET; For the past month, Rae has been truant from school to escape bullying.
First Dice: Discovered on a popular online auction site.
Organ Donor: Yes

I like him. What kind of person will Rae become?  Is he the hero of this story, who will grow into the leader of a revolution that brings forth a gushing torrent of change? Or is he less noble? Will the taste of power the Dice bring corrupt him? Or will he remain a weak-willed bystander, content to hide himself beneath the rocks? 

 

On a less flowery note, the profile is concise and descriptive; its an ordinary person, with an ordinary person's problems, and plenty of room for character development. I already have a quest line planned for Rae, which should give you the chance to set a benchmark for his character, and exactly how cowardly he is.

Name: Kyon Hoorda
Age: 22
Appearance: Dark skin, dark curled hair, with a noticeably broken nose, broken teeth, and misshaped eyes. Tall, wiry, and long-legged. He wears a hoody in any dark color in order to hide his malformed face, but likes to wear otherwise vibrant colors (green, purple, neon orange) when he isn't “working”
Personality: Kyon is crafty and exploitative, mostly because he developed in a world of constant exploitation. He feels no remorse in stealing from others, but he is wholly against brutal or violent tactics unless he can't otherwise escape a bad situation.
Occupation: Petty criminal and uncertified mechanic seeking more gainful employment; his appearance, though, makes it difficult not to come off as if he's robbing anywhere he goes to interview. He wasn't always a criminal; he even made it through two technical vocation schools in mechanical and electrical engineering back in his own country; unfortunately, those degrees don't count for anything in Batotonia yet the living conditions and political situation at home forced him into refuge in this big city.
First Dice: Found in the glove compartment of a Lamborghini-esque sports car he tried to hijack. He didn't have time to hot wire the car before spotting a roaming policeman, but he took the liberty of pilfering its contents before the cop could notice him breaking and entering.
Organ Donor: Yes

History: Kyon (his adopted Batotonian name) made his way from a little known, poverty-stricken country into the small landscape that is modern Batotonia. Kyon isn't a killer, but he also isn't afraid to protect himself (not that he spends the time to protect himself when he can get away unharmed); his morals don't support brutality and he is more likely to steal from someone than threaten them with physical violence. He lives in the poorest districts of West City and still finds it surprisingly more prosperous than his unnamed country of origin. 

 

How's this? Is a foreigner okay?

Damn, what an ugly bastard. Kyon is certainly a very interesting character, I like him quite a bit. It'll be interesting to see how he interacts with other Dicers, since teamwork doesn't seem to be part of his agenda. X will thoroughly enjoy sabotaging his attempts to clean up his act, as well.

As a side note, Batotonia is very culturally diverse, so you don't need to give your characters Korean names, unless you really want to

Name: Jani Kelemen
Age: 21
Appearance: An average height lightly tanned man with shoulder length wavy blonde hair and green eyes of average attractiveness.
Personality: Jani seeks to gain recognition, respect and to be favored by those around him. Loyal to those who are nice to him. Stubborn, cold and callous to those who treat's anybody like dirt.
Occupation: After only half completing his degree in computer science in the University of Batotonia, Jani works part time delivering pizza in his old car.
First Dice: Found while delivering pizza, Jani came accross a broken down door in the neighboring apartment. Feeling lucky that he was not present during the freshly commited crime, he takes a dice in the middle of the hallway as a good luck charm...
Organ Donor: No
History: Jani was born and raised in Batotonia. A shy and quiet individual, his intellect brought him to the University of Batotonia. During his time at the University of Batotonia, his immediate family was killed in a house fire. Jani's grades plummeted and he lost his scholarship, this along with many legal hiccups lead him to be completely broke. He performed many retail jobs to pay for his single apartment and to attempt to save money to finish his education. His latest job is being a full-time pizza delivery man.

 
Lots of potential with dice's attributes ^.^

Does Jani live in East City? The University of Batotonia is located in East City, so it would make sense. Money would certainly be an issue for him, if his only employment is pizza delivery. I like the character though. He lost his family, so he's trying to gain the respect of his peers. He trusts and listens to people easily, and while that's a good quality for making friends, it also lets him be tricked and conned. He's an overall reliable guy to have as a friend with a sturdy set of morals.

 

I can't wait to find out how much it costs in Dice and Bucks to corrupt him. Congratulations on becoming a Dicer, Jani Kelemen.

 

Oh, and I've decided that the currency for Batotonia is Bucks, and its equivalent to the Euro or American Dollar, since that's what I'm used to.

[Athaleon]

Name: Alex Johnson

Age: 16

Appearance: 5'10" decent build blonde hair green eyes male

Personality: Alex is a reserved and quiet character with very little presence. He is analytical and does a lot more time thinking to himself than talking to others.

Occupation: Third year of high school

Residence: Apartment, Either bad part of East City (if there is one) or West City, Suburbs

First Dice: On the way home from school a dicer tried to mug him for a quest. NAME got into a fight, and managed to beat the guy up a bit. The guy ran off and dropped a dice, since he wasn't aware that he completed the quest.

Organ Donor: Sure, why not.

History: Alex has had a pretty decent life so far. He lives in a someone poor household, but he's grateful for what he has. He isn't excellent at anything, but he can do most things pretty well.

Ending note: This character would be easier to role play as, but he's a little generic, and I wouldn't be surprised if he didn't really go anywhere.

Name: Matthew Aldaine

Age: 17

Appearance: 5'11, neat brown hair, strong build, blue eyes.

Personality: Self centered and self absorbed. He is very cocky and acts like royalty, because he knows that he can get away with it. He's very social, and a player. He has pretty much everything he can get for a 17 year old

Occupation: Matthew just graduated from high school, soon he'll join some high standard university.
Residence: Some mansion in East City.

First Dice: One of his cohorts found out about dice, and offered him one.

Organ Donor: yes

History: Matthew has had it easy his entire life. He grew up with wealthy parents, and pretty much anything money could buy at his command. He has gotten bored because he believes that life is too easy, and has become fascinated by the dice.

Where I would like this character to go: I think it would be fun if this character ended up obsessing over dice and went crazy. Whether this means doing literally anything for dice, becoming a psychotic killer and going on a murder spree, or some other wonderful outcome, is up to how the plot progresses.

Ending note: I think this character would be harder for me to rp as, but the character itself is stronger, and has more places to go.

You know, I can't decide which character you want to RP as myself! If you can't choose, just roll the dice.

 

My favorite characters to RP as so far have been ones with tragic flaws. Mr. Matthew Aldaine has the two biggest ones: pride and avarice. He doesn't necessarily have to become a serial killer to be a successful Dicer, either. Matthew's mentality would put him head-and-shoulders above the competition, and with the right moves, he could gain a significant advantage over other Dicers.

 

The other character, who was it again? I forgot. In any case, there's absolutely nothing I can think of for him. He needs some sort of conflict or aspiration or specialization for me to work with. Introspective jack-of-all-trades is fine, he just needs something unique. Perhaps he doesn't want to be a Dicer? Family troubles? A religious overtone?

 

And if it makes any difference, the only wrong way to RP is to write nothing at all. Don't be afraid to just jump in, you'd be surprised at what you come up with.

Name: Dragan Thorhammer a.k.a The Black wolf

Age: 27

Appearance: Like any northerner Dragan is tall and well-built. Standing around 6ft 8 in height and also heavily muscled. He has a vertical scar running alongside the left side of his face from forehead to the side of his face. he has two tattoos of the mafia organisation adorning either side of his bull-neck. Has smoky-grey eyes with a purplish tinge. Has a shaved head with pitch black hair under-root. Has sharp features and a broad forehead, all in all quite intimidating.

Personality: He is a terse man who follows rules (usually his own) to the T, a sharp dresser he usually doesn't interact much with people. Even his odd jobs are assigned usually impersonally through letters and e-mails. But mostly his actual line of work is not known to general people. He runs a bakery in the East city center shopping complex. 

Occupation: Real job - 'Cleaner', Front Job - Baker and shop owner of 'viKings of Cake'.

 

Residence: A log-cabin on the mountains near the East part of the city of Batotonia.

First Dice: Given to him by the 'Organisation' he works for.

Organ Donor: Yes.

 History: Dragan was groomed to become a 'cleaner' by his father from an early age. By the age of 5  he was already able to dis-assemble a .45 Silver Eagle and put it back together. By 10 he had mastered the Knife. By 16 he had already assisted his father on a mission. By 20 he had mastered reassembling and training with all firearms readily available. Thus, he was proficient as a heir to his father and took over that role by 22. He also cultivated a love for cooking and thus went to cooking school to get professional training on Baking. His father usually mans the shop and is the man to go to should you require Dragan's services.   

 

PS: "Cleaner - A person who cleans up after assassins and other nether business of a Mafia organisation."

Name: Daria Smirnoff

Age: 21

Appearance: A petite girl with Euro-Asian features, about 5'2 in height. She has wild chin-length hair that borders on black. The shadows under her eyes give her the appearance of a sleepless junkie, but rest assured, she's a good girl. Just don't disturb her reveries.

Personality: Daria is a bit of a daydreamer. She can usually be found in the park or in a cafe, staring in the distance or up in the sky, waiting for god knows what. Some people are put off by her odd nature, which vacillates from total silence to overt frankness depending on her current view of the situation. Despite her docile countenance, Daria enjoys competition of the physical kind, a fight being the only time her mind doesn't go wandering off.

Occupation: a student of the University of Batoto with an undecided major. her fees are subsidized since she is an athletic scholar, a kickboxer.

Residence: A dormitory near the university, which is in East City. Living fees are also subsidized.

First Dice: Taken as payment from a friend who owed her pizza money.

Organ Donor: Yes.

Name: Aramu Ruui
Age: 16
Appearance:

If there were people who were favored by the goddess of beauty, Ruui would probably be one of them. When you see him, the first thing that would catch your eyes would be how pale he is. His skin is uncannily white, almost as if it were translucent. The second thing you would notice would probably be his long, silky straight hair. It grows to his waist, and is usually worn in a ponytail. The most interesting thing from it, though, is its color: deep, deep black that seemed to absorb any light that landed on it. The last feature, and probably the most beautiful as of yet, would be the color of his irises: deep, vivid blue that reminds you of the sea. Most people find his stares.. Mesmerizing, for the lack of better word.

 

What makes people stare at her a little bit too long, however, is none of the above. It was his gender ambiguity. Standing at 5'4" and having slender build often garbed in layered clothing that hides body contour, it is very hard to determine Ruui's gender from sight alone. The fact that he rarely speaks at all does not help either. Worse still, he is not old enough to be registered as a proper citizen, and thus did not carry any ID card with him. And to top it off, Ruui had entered BOTH all-girl school and all-guy school in his academic record. Quite a mystery.

 

Personality:

Ruui is a very silent and reserved person. He rarely, if ever at all, speaks in public. Instead, he would prefer to communicate with others using notes and texts (if there are no papers and/or pen around). He is generally aloof and detached from the society. If he ever hold any semblance of emotions for anybody aside from himself and his uncle, he certainly did a very good job at hiding them.

 

People would sometimes link that to the fact that he suffered autism on his early childhood. Others would blame the bullying he had always received from his classmates due to his.. Unusual appearance. Perhaps, it was a mixture of both. Or neither. Nobody really knows. Not even Ruui himself knows.

 

Occupation: First year student of East Batotia Public High School.

Residence: Ruui lives together with his uncle in the Eastern suburbs, very close to the bridge that connects the two districts.
First Dice: It was mailed to his uncle's house. The sender was anonymous.
Organ Donor: Yes.

 

History:

Ruui was born to a rather poor family in the Western District of Batotonia. When he was two, both his parents died in a fire accident. It was then that his mother's younger brother took him as his own child. With no wife to help him with house chores, Ruui was rather neglected as a child. His uncle would try to spend as much time together with him when he is home. Alas, he needs to work and his work requires him to be away for the most part of the day.

 

At first, his uncle thought that entering Ruui into a school dorm would be a good idea. The young kid would not be alone for most of the day, and would also be in a conducive environment to further his studies. Thus, when he heard of the news that Ruui was terribly bullied by his dorm mates, his uncle was really shocked. It was then that he then decided to move Ruui to another school to avoid more bullying, and to live together with his sister's child despite all the inconveniences.

Mmmm. It might take more then the promise of furniture and wealth for his empty apartment in the east end to convince someone like him...

It's a pretty good read, things are starting to pick up.

First 4 chapters are slow but kinda neccessary to explain the character.

Basically a unknown entity makes itself a GM to all those who obtain a dice.

He rewards people dice for completing what he wants them to do (even if it's bad...) which give points to level their attributes.
