Introduction
There are many rumors as to why the old world fell. Some involved a calamity; a large meteor, a destructive earthquake, or a great firestorm that enveloped the land. In others the king had gone mad, rebellions ensued and the unified world became split into seven regions. The one my mama told me involved a wicked witch who cast a curse upon the land.
The time of the unified realm is now nothing but fragments of recorded history and the only proof we have of the time when the world still had magic are the relics from the past—The Vox. Mysterious ancient artifacts from the golden age forged under orders of the one King, now scattered all around the wide world. Legends say that when all one hundred Vox are brought together that magic would return to the world and the successor to the king would reveal himself.
The World
The 7 Regions
Forest of Fairies
The Forest of Fairies is as beautiful as it is mysterious. Here, the people rely heavily on their natural surroundings for every facet of life, foraging for fruits for most their meals and even building their households in the trees. At the very center of the forest is Yggdrasil the tree of life whose magical energies fuels the forest and its people.
Castle Windwell
Located at the Southeast corner of the World, Castle Windwell is large enough to be closer to a large walled in city than an actual castle. One of the most densely populated of the seven regions, you’ll find Castle Windwell populated by all manner of denizens – some friendlier than others.
The Dunes
The Great Desert of the East is home to a whole lot of queer folk. Most of the people from this region either find some secluded area of the desert to hermit themselves away in or are nomads traveling together in small caravans finding shelter where they can. Don’t let the dry heat fool you though, as the Dunes are actually bustling with life and trade especially near the green crystal geysers whose energies provide the land.
Glacier Isles
Few choose to settle in the harsh icy tundra of the north. The cold frostlands are home to a wide number of dangerous beasts and the lands themselves are difficult to travel on. Yet even here you’ll find those who earn a fulfilling lifestyle sledding among the beautiful hills of snow and hunting what they can to survive.
Valley of Flowers
The Valley of Flowers in the western region of the world is as serene as it is beautiful. While the population here is small, composed of mostly farmers living in small grass huts built by their own hand, they’ll probably be the nicest people you’ll ever meet. It’s dangerous to stay here for long though – because you’ll grow fat and lazy from their overwhelming hospitality!
Whispering Woods
They say that once upon a time, the center of the world at the time when magic was abundant was also the center of the one kingdom. It’s hard to believe that now though as ancient magics enshroud the woods in constant darkness. They say all sorts of wicked nasty creatures make their home here preying off what few travelers dare venture into here to be seen nevermore.
Mt. Grandeur
At the corner of the world are the great mountains. The people here live within its rocky caves fueled by the surprising amount of life and plenty granted by the waterfall that runs from the mountain’s peak.
Vox
Ancient artifact of unimaginable power created by the Great King eons ago. Legend says that if you collect all of them your greatest wishes will come true. A hundred exist, scattered all around the wide world and can take various forms and wield a wide array of different abilities. From wings that let you fly to talking hammers there’s no doubt that you’ll find one or more that suits your liking.
Fiends
Where there is magic there must also be monsters. Fiends come in varying shapes and sizes, sometimes alone sometimes in a group. From the hordes of hobgoblins whispering woods to the giant cryomantulas of the Glacier Isles the only thing more vast than their numbers is their sheer variety. The one rule with fiends is that there is always one bigger and meaner looking in the shadows. Don’t be to quick on the draw though, in this wide world you’ll find some fiends are sentient and can even be friendly.
