I'm not sure how long this manga is going to be. It's only chapter 5 but they already run through the plot introduced in the oneshot. And since there are not that many characters, there aren't that many chances for subplots. I hope it last a while, but I'm guessing that it will only be 60-70 chapters. What does everyone else think?
How long do you think koe no kitachi will be?

I think that largely depends on how big the cast will end up. If the two do become friends, then there could be a whole host of new characters to deal with - primarily on Shouya's side. There's also the fact that it was confirmed that Shouya's suicidal on page 13 which shows a lone shoe floating in water by a koi fish - symbolizing his jump from someplace high to land in a pond. His asking to be friends depends on continuing interaction, and his asking was entirely accidental, as shown on page 19 with, "I was just gonna apologize and get out of here! Why the hell did I end up asking her to be friends?!" Basically he intended to make amends and then to end it, but if he does stick around then all the stuff he left behind at school will catch up to the two of them, sooner or later. Particularly a distraught mother, but his schoolmates may be effected to.

FOREVER!! Sorry I ended up liking this more than usual... I really don't see this extended long so I would say 30-50 chapters, mostly because this author seems pretty diligent about getting to the point. The author even added that nice dramatic time skip erasing a couple chapters and adding that grief affect. Then again I'm usually wrong and as WriterFourHire said, "depends how big the cast will be". I really don't know if his old friends will be there except that one girl who visited their shop, but I definitely have a feeling his sister's [ex-]boyfriends will get involved again. I hope it goes on longer but probably won't.

Not too long, I think. The thing is, by what I understood, they are already in the summer of their third year of high school, and I doubt that, besides the possible epilogue, Koe no Kitachi will only continue until their graduation, as it would be pointless to continue during College, as they would probably have no common grounds for interaction if they are not in a relationship already, which probably is the final goal of the manga, not a checkpoint. So yeah, I can't say how long in terms of chapters, but I'd guess about nine months in-series. How fast that goes really depends on the writer.

We don't necessarily know that their getting together is going to be the end goal. We know it's listed as romance, but that could just be a subplot/checkpoint while the manga deals with the larger issue of being deaf in the Japanese culture. I think there's actually lot to be said and done, especially since the subject seemed to be taboo, if the "can we publish this?" comments from the one-shot are anything to go by. Even if Koe no Katachi wasn't rather unique and interesting storywise, the very fact that it's opening up that can of worms for audiences to devour and discuss means that it will have substance.
Honestly, so long as there is interest and a logical progression of the plot the story can last as long as the mangaka wants it to.

That's true, considering the fact that there are many aspects of deaf culture that the common reader would not understand, the author oomaida(?) could go pretty far with it. I think that Shouya reaction and interaction with Nishimiya's world could be a complex plot point.

Manga with a plot usually don't last long if they have a slice-of-life storyline which is surely aimed at in this manga. Still, that's better than manga which get f@#$%d-up sometime during the story (characters going mad/die/etc.) just to bring in new plot elements and twists. And I honestly don't want anything like that to happen to the maincast here, so a 30-40 chapter manga is ok for me.

They made it into a weekly manga so I highly doubt it will be around 40-50 chapters. I say depending on how the story goes, at least 100.

Well that's good news. It seems like it was popular after all. So long as the mangaka makes good use of the momentum hopefully it'll last a while.

I think for how the series goes worst case ending with 26 or 30, hopefully goes for a year (50 ch), and best case goes for 2 or a little more years (less than 150). The plot is really great but at the same time it's difficult. Hopes that can go for a long time

I read in an interview on niconico that the author is going to try to keep it short and wrap it up within 10 volumes.
From an interview:

Q: What do you want to convey in the serialization of Koe no Katachi?
Ooima: People who think living is tough, or people who denie themselves, people who, like Nishimiya, are not good at conveying themselves, how these people find "remedy", it would be nice if I can make a manga like that. Also, how people who are distance, how people with huge difference can get along would be nice. That's how I feel. I would not want to stretch things out slowly, I'll try my best to keep it short. If possible, end it within 10 volumes.

10 volumes for best case.
Alright, the question is solved. That means about 4 ~ 5 years. I hope it's not force dragging.

That would make the most sense. And most likely Ishida will go out with Shoko properly. (Making up for childhood mistake with his life dedicated to her? HOW ROMANTIC~~~ )

This is a weekly, so it's more like just over a year 60-80 chapters, if that.
Oh yeah, i forgot. That may be right

Depends on the story. The author will propably make the relationship more series between our main charachters. I don't know whether it'll be romance or something else, and after that, it'll propably evolve about the life goin around them. Like maybe exploring on why her mother is so bitter. Then maybe exploring the "lost" years. Few flashbacks here and there. Propably at some point a real rival for our maleMC(or other way around). Some of you guys don't see the tons of possibilities it might aim at. Our maleMC getting more friends, charachter develops even more? The "X"s? I really depends on the author. He might just truly make a story where time goes on. And it might not just end simply at graduation. Why EXACTLY graduation? The author might make it much longer. We will see over time. Who knows, maybe he decides to see this trough all the way to their marriage, even? I can't say it couldn't happen. It could be possible, if author really decides to flesh put the relationship between our MC's. And it would make it all the more sweeter, perhaps?
Just throwing ideas around.
