Lastly, you describe the act of doing wrong as a choice. The fact it is a choice implies an alternative pattern of behaviour is possible. If conflict was in our nature, would there be a choice?

I'd say it makes the choice to begin conflict and engage in violence something specific to intelligent thought. There can be no choice if you do not understand.
