Actually, it's the opposite. Societies where little consideration is given to the feelings of girls during marital arrangements exhibit significantly higher TFR.

Since these girls probably won't be leaving the facility let alone be forced into a marrage with the type of person that would force themselves on them, that hardly seems to matter.

Taking away young girls' romantic feelings is not going to rise those birth rates, Japan... Just saying

You miss the most important point though: a lot of scientists would be very happy to be proven wrong, because that means that science has advanced, new knowledge has been gained, new insights found. There is no reason to be sad.

The science of this manga however.... it can have all of my facepalms for the iron transformation being the crystallisation of the romantic feelings. This is probably the dumbest idea imaginable. I can't say that I am unhappy it is ending.

Here what i expect to happen next:
The Mother is a Bad Ass. I hope she have her own organization then the son will know.Then he will join just to save the girl.. After a few Preparations, they will attack the facility and almost annihilated the entire enemy organization. As they go Further, they will learn that the final boss will be the girl in her full transformation.Then the they will fight, but the boy is weak so he ended up half-dead. But before the girl finishes up the boy she will remember the truth. Then she will fight the entire enemy organization killing them all but capturing the head director to pay her sins... Afterwards the boy woke up in the hospital and the girl is beside him. They chat a little the goes to sudden awkwardness and silence. The boy will confess his love for the girl, after a moment of silence the girl will acknowleged his confession and say "Yes, I like you too" hugged him with tears. And they all live Happily ever After
